1 Trends Herbst/Winter 2016/17 Strong men s fashion and exciting recycling concepts What can we expect next winter? More than 160 labels will be presenting their autumn/winter fashion 2016/17 at the Postbahnhof from January 2016: At the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin, the agenda includes casual styles for men with influences from the 1970s and 90s, as well as innovative recycling and upcycling concepts, says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt. Men s fashion: urban casualness. Elegant and sporty. Opposites attract. Hybrid looks for men are on trend with a mix of influences from the 1970s and 90s, both formal-casual and sporty-chic: long coats, cool parkas and close-fitting short jackets, knitted pullovers and hoodies, shirts and print shirts. Retro colours such as green, grey and brown are on the fashion map for 2016, as are patterns: striking prints, embroidery and structures bring a breath of fresh air for men and are hipper than ever.
2 Cool outerwear Well bundled up for autumn and winter whether in urban hotspots or in the country: long coats and close-fitting short jackets will get people safely through the cold season of the year. This is certainly the case with LangerChan. For autumn/winter 2016/17, the label will present cool parkas and relaxed sporty silhouettes as well as boxy short jackets in a military style. Subtle details and colours such as reed green make the outerwear a strikingly masculine eye-catcher. LangerChen With KnowledgeCotton Apparel there is also sporty-chic outerwear for men. Bomber jackets, sports jackets, windbreakers and coats in classic colours such as dark blue or grey are the perfect companions for autumn. Knowledge Cotton Aparell Hip Hop Hooray Hip hop and streetwear from the 1990s are experiencing a revival: casualness meets style. Labels such as Recolution present relaxed hoodies and sweats. From a staple to a trendsetter simple casual pieces are currently incredibly fashionable again and so much more than just boring basics. Recolution 1
3 Trevor s Choice by Daily s Simplicity the trend towards a new kind of simplicity is also present in shirts. The smarter, the cooler. Tone-in-tone mélange and details such as elaborate washes and innovative seam tracking make the simple pieces, such as those presented by Trevor s Choice by Daily s, very special. And more striking prints can of course be seen here and there. The sporty looks give an especially cool impression when they are broken up. The classics The shirt, a men s fashion classic, references streetwear. The result? Contemporary looks that contrast both urban and classic influences. Ideal in various grey tones with large graphic elements and narrow collars as can be seen from Glimpse. Glimpse Knit is and will remain THE winter theme. Knitwear is again on the books for the coming cold season. New are striking knit patterns that give the collection pieces a unique structure, such as cable knit and honeycomb patterns as with PeopleTree or rib-knit at Mud Jeans. People Tree 2
4 Circularity: making new from old A circular economy for clothes? That s right, the latest trend in the textile industry is circularity, with which it is making a big step towards the future. Closed textile loops, resource-saving production, recycling and upcycling are the key words of the moment. The labels at the Ethical Fashion Show explain exactly how they implement these ideas in the form of their own individual concepts. Making new from old: material remnants from the textile industry become cool streetwear, old clothes become business-ready shirts and old jeans new knits. From jeans to a pullover Mud Jeans not only creates knits, but also cotton knits from recycled jeans. The Dutch label has developed a leasing concept for jeans. If they are too old, they can be returned and recycled. For example, new cotton fibres are created from old trousers that can then be recycled into coarse knit pullovers. Mud Jeans Waste as a raw material for hoodies The Weimar upcycling label Recyclist Workshop uses waste as a raw material and produces cool hoodies or knitted pullovers from recycled fibres. 5 Upmarket upcycling Reet Aus also uses fibres that are left over from material design. It creates e.g. smart men s shirts with a classic cut but sophisticated look. Reet Aus Biodegradable bags The bags by rewrap are completely biodegradable and made from natural fibres such as wool felt for the mobile cases or sustainable raw materials such as coconut, walnut and natural rubber for the Tree Bag. This saves resources and also looks amazing. rewrap Circular steps Ultrashoes makes upcycled shoes. The upper material comprises leather remnants from shoe production and has been reprocessed. 6 Greenshowroom and Ethical Fashion Show Berlin: the centre for green fashion The centre for eco-fashion in the spotlight: the Greenshowroom and Ethical Fashion Show Berlin are Europe s biggest B2B platform for environmentally-friendly and fairly-produced fashion as part of Berlin Fashion Week. At the Postbahnhof in Berlin s Ostbahnhof station, more than 160 international labels present their wares. High fashion and matching accessories are showcased at the Greenshowroom, while street and casualwear can be found at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin. A varied fringe programme with shows, a networking party, press conferences, presentations and podium discussions complete the three-day trade fair offer.
