Developed an apparatus to be used for in situ synchrotron based photoemission experiments of liquid surfaces and molecular adsorption on liquid surfaces under ambient conditions. Investigated thickness dependence of adsorption properties of nanoscale metal-oxide films on metal substrate. Supervisor: Dr. Hendrik Bluhm Post-doctoral Fellow, Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society, Department of Chemical Physics, Berlin, Germany Investigated structure-reactivity relationships in model catalyst systems utilizing Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, Auger Electron Spectroscopy, Low Energy Electron Diffraction and Temperature Programmed Desorption. Determined the structure of vapor-deposited metal-oxide thin films on metal substrates and metal nanoparticles on metal-oxide thin films. Studied ambient gas induced morphology changes of oxide supported metal nanoparticles using ambient pressure Scanning Tunneling Microscopy. Supervisor: Professor Dr. Hajo Freund April 2001 March 2004 Post-doctoral Fellow, Free University Berlin, Department of Physics, Berlin, Germany Research in ultrafast surface photochemical reaction dynamics of adsorbates on silver nanoparticles using femto-second laser based spectroscopic techniques.
