Place in a suitable rigid outer container. Mark as FRAGILE when sending glass bottles. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Volume should not exceed 1 litre. Wrap in polythene and seal with tape to ensure that any leakage is contained within the outer packaging. Surround with absorbent material such as newspaper and sufficient cushioning material to protect each item from breakage. Place in a suitable rigid outer container. Mark as FRAGILE when sending glass bottles. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Articles for the Blind must be written, printed or appear on a label on the front cover. Write the sender s name and address clearly on the outer packaging. Mail is subject to inspection and so must be left open, be easy to open and re-seal or the contents must be visible through the packaging. Exceptions may be made for heavy; up to 7kg, or fragile items that may be unsafe or impractical to remain unsealed. These items may be sent sealed provided prior notification is given to Royal Mail, please notify us on or (text phone). Ensure adequate cushioning material. 2 Batteries (except those classes as dangerous goods) B - C Alkaline, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) or nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries may be sent if new and in their unopened original retail packaging. Cells or batteries that are defective for safety reasons, or that have been damaged, are forbidden. Any equipment containing batteries must be packed in strong rigid packaging, secured against movement, and packed to prevent accidental activation. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Biological Substances including diagnostic specimens May be sent by, or at the specific request of, a qualified medical practitioner, registered dental practitioner, veterinary surgeon, registered nurse or a recognised laboratory or institution. The total sample volume/mass in any parcel should not exceed 50ml/50g. Only permitted for destinations within the UK. All biological substances must be posted in packaging that complies with Packaging Instruction 650, such as our Safebox product. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Books Cameras / Projectors Cash or money The binding and corners of books can get damaged and should be sent with sufficient packaging material to ensure no damage is incurred.small books: padded envelope. Larger books: corrugated fibreboard book pack. Ensure there is a 2.5cm clearance at each end. Detach any lens or additional pieces and if possible use original retailers packaging. Surround the items in a minimum of 5cm of cushion material and place in a rigid outer container. All money MUST be sent via Special Delivery. Do not write or indicate in any way that cash or coins are enclosed within the package. Coins should not be sent in an envelope. Package them securely in a rigid container. If using an envelope for paper Cash, ensure it s not visible.
3 Computer disks: audio and video cassettes, CDs and DVDs Christmas crackers Drugs for medical or scientific purposes Electronic items (Small items; mobile phones, ipods, MP3, ebooks, sat nav. etc.) E - F Wrap cushioning material at least 2cm think around each item. Use a rigid, purpose made container. We recommend you use screened envelopes for computer disks. Can only be sent new in their made up form in their original retail packaging. Must only be sent by medical practitioners in an emergency. Pack in a strong inner container. Clearly mark the sender's name and address on the outer wrapping. Surround with a minimum of 1cm of cushioning (bubble wrap) and place in a rigid container or secure outer packaging and securely sealed. Wrap each item individually. Ensure plug pins are covered in 1cm of cushioning to prevent damage to contents and outer packaging. Electronic items may be sent in their original packaging, providing the battery is removed or not charged. Cells or batteries that are defective for safety reasons, or that have been damaged, are forbidden. The equipment containing cells or batteries must be packed in strong rigid packaging. Equipment must be secured against movement within the outer packaging and packed to prevent accidental activation. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging Electronic items (Medium to Large items, e.g. ipads, portable DVD players, laptops, flat screen TV's, printers, blue ray players etc.) Surround with a minimum of 5cm of cushioning e.g., bubble wrap, polystyrene chips or polyblocks to protect from knocks and vibration. Remove all additional or loose parts and wrap each item individually, including plugs. Electronic items may be sent in their original packaging providing battery is removed or not charged. Items must be securely placed in a strong, rigid outer container e.g. corrugated fibreboard box and cushioned to avoid movement. Packaging must be of adequate size and securely sealed so items can not fall out during transit.

Pack loosely in a padded envelope and then seal securely. Write the sender s name and address clearly on the outer packaging. Items must clearly be marked PERISHABLE. These items Must be sent First Class as a minimum requirement,. Should be able to withstand a journey of up to 48 hours. Must be suitably sealed to prevent leakage or tainting of other items such as sealed in vacuum packs. Strong corrugated board box or purpose designed polystyrene pack. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Pack in layers separated by tissue paper. Use waterproof wrapping if including damp moss or phials of water. Should be able to withstand a journey of up to 48 hours. Must be suitably sealed to prevent leakage or tainting of other items. Strong corrugated board box or purpose designed polystyrene pack. Packages must be clearly labelled PERISHABLE. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Wrap extremities separately, e.g. limbs of figurines, ears, etc. Surround in a minimum of 5cm of cushion material. Place in a strong rigid container. Attach a label with a contact name and telephone number. Wrap in cardboard then place inside a padded envelope. For quantities up to 1cm thick,: place in: a padded bag, heavy-duty cardboard envelope or polythene shrink-wrap. For quantities up to 5cm thick: wrap in: corrugated paper, thick paper or polythene shrink-wrap. Volume should not exceed 1 litre. Wrap in polythene, seal with tape. Surround with absorbent material such as sawdust or newspaper. Package in Fibreboard or polystyrene using a leak proof container.
5 Living creatures (e.g. insects and invertebrates) Magazines and newspapers Magnets (e.g. in loudspeakers or magnetic media) M - P Bees, caterpillars, cockroaches, crickets, destroyers of noxious pests, earthworms, fish fry and eggs, leeches and other parasites, lugworms, maggots, mealworms, pupae and chrysalides, rag worms, silkworms, spiders, stick insects and some other insects are allowed. Must be boxed and packaged to protect the creatures, our staff and our customers from harm. Use 1st Class as the minimum service. Items must be clearly marked URGENT LIVING CREATURES - HANDLE WITH CARE. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.. For quantities up to 1cm thick,: place in: a padded bag, heavy-duty cardboard envelope or polythene shrink-wrap. For quantities up to 5cm thick: wrap in: corrugated paper, thick paper or polythene shrink-wrap. The magnetised material should have a magnetic field strength of less than 0.159A/m at a distance of 2.1m from the outside of the package. Wrap in soft packing material at least 2cm thick around each item. Mark the sender's name and address clearly on the outer wrapping. Should be sent individually as can damage other items they travel with, i.e. discs, tapes, etc. Strong corrugated board box or purpose designed polystyrene pack. Maps, plans and drawings Perfume (non-flammable or alcohol content less than 70%) Powders and fine grains (such as tea or coffee) Pace in rigid cardboard sandwich or inside a plastic tube. Maximum length 90cm. Wrap in polythene and seal with tape. Surround with an absorbent material like sawdust or newspaper. Place in a fibreboard or polystyrene leak proof container. Place inside a strong container such as strong polythene bag and seal securely with tape. Please inside a second container and seal again. The double-wrapped item should be placed in a rigid corrugated box. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.
6 Prescription medicines and drugs sent for scientific or medical purposes that are not classified as dangerous goods (including but not limited to inhalers of a volume of 50ml or less) Prints, frames and mounted canvas Prints, unframed Records (vinyl discs) Scissors, knives and other sharp items Water-based paints, wood stains and enamels P - Z May be sent by, or at the specific request of, a qualified medical practitioner, registered dental practitioner, veterinary surgeon, registered nurse or a recognised laboratory or institution. Must be tightly packed in rigid outer packaging and must be secured or cushioned to prevent any damage to the medicines. The medicines must be securely closed and placed in a leak proof liner such as a sealed polythene bag (for liquids) or a sift-proof container (for solids). The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Wrap cushioning material at least 5cm think around each item. Place between thick board or polystyrene giving 2.5cm clearance at each end. If glass is in the frame there needs to be a surround of a minimum of 10cm of cushion material and placed in a rigid container. Wrap in tissue paper. Place in a heavy duty cardboard envelope or if possible roll and send in a rigid tube, seal and clearly mark package PHOTOGRAPHS - DO NOT BEND. Place between thick card and surround with cushioning material at least 2.5cm longer than the item. Wrap in strong paper, seal with tape and clearly mark package RECORDS - DO NOT BEND. Wrap heavy cardboard around all sharp edges and points, strong enough to ensure that the contents do not pierce the outer packaging. Then wrap each item with cushioning material. Place in a suitable outer container such as a padded envelope. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging. Volume per item should not exceed 150ml. Wrap in polythene and seal with tape to ensure that any leakage is contained within the outer packaging. Surround with absorbent material such as newspaper and sufficient cushioning material to protect each item from damage and place in a suitable rigid outer container. The sender s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.
