1 Dear Gentlemen, Waterline Yacht Design is a Naval Architecture and Engineering Office, situated in Leghorn (Tuscany), formed by professional technicians with different skills and experiences and with important tasks in their past working activities, particularly in Yacht Design. Thanks to that, all the Owners and Clients we have worked for so far declared themselves well satisfied. May we mention from among them Arch.. Renzo Piano, who in late 2003 appointed us as responsible for the structural refitting and the aerohydro modifications of his 60' sailing boat Kiribilli. With the creation of WYD we want to offer to our Clients the best professionality in a wide range of activities, from total boats design to single component calculation and drawing. In the last years all the people working at WYD have developed a design system of superior level based on a scientific approach to the problems, with an affinity for detailed analysis, cost optimization, design flows, boat's performances and drawing fine designs. About us Every person inside of WYD team, founders and coworkers, has a technical experience and know how on his hands: Naval Architects, Architects, Engineers and Yacht Designers. The passion for Boats and Design are the main common interest between us, but what we feel as the main affinity in our working team at WYD is the interest for the research in the materials area and the Technology applied to the boats. From the beginning of our activity we have met a lot of new people and many of them are specialized in different areas and they assist us during the design stages to realize tests on materials, mock up of models, test of finishes for interiors, etc. We spend many of our resources in new and innovative solutions, as for instance with composite materials, resins systems, interior's arrangements, hulls and appendages solutions and geometries, structural interiors, and other things that we investigate in our office before proposing them to our clients. Usually we use scale models for studies, through which we can investigate the geometries and the solutions we have in mind, and also the production stage can be simulated before the start, thanks to the computer aid and an extensive 3D modelling. Under the scientific point of view we cohoperate with some university's consortiums. Thank to that we can investigate hulls and appendages geometries through the use of CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) that give us the possibility to carry out a lot of tests and runs of our solutions on sail plans, hulls and appendages. We also cohoperate with the University of Genoa as teachers in Yacht Design and we are involved as teachers with some post graduate Masters in Yacht Design with the University of Florence and Pisa. Obviously we are all keen sailors, involved in all the main races in the Mediterranean, as we believe that to sail a lot is of great help for a correct consideration of all problems involved with Yacht Design. Hull Design: Hull lines design using surfaces modeller, hydrostatic software and Vpp. New design analisys: preliminary design & analysis for new designs and proposals, costs estimation, contacts with shipyards, production planning. Interior Design: design and detailing of interiors, detailing on materials and solutions for the boat's interiors. Analysis of solutions for the interior's geometries. Velocity Prediction: using VPP with custom aerohydro coefficients. Estimation of boat's performances, seaworthy, modifications. Structural Analysis: laminates calculation for hulls, decks, internal structures, bulkheads, rudders and keels. Calculation through Register or Finite Elements. Stability Calculations: analysis of hydrostatic of boats, on water stability measurement with our devices, centre of Gravity calculation, weights estimates analysis, trim calculations. Fluid Dynamics: Computer Fluid Dynamics on hulls, appendages and sail plans, through non commercial codes. Sea trials: before and after boat modification. Rating Optimizations: under IMS, ORC Club, IRC, and all rating rules Performances Optimizations: analysis and optimization for cruiser or racer.
