HUB has about 7,500 full time students in degree programmes 6,000 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate (appr. 8 % of which are international students) - and another 10,000 students in executive training and seminars. HUB fosters a student-centered culture where it aims at developing a student's talents as well as stimulating student personal growth and social commitment. Education at HUB revolves around one basic principle: practicebased education built on science.

3 HUB programmes are organised by two educational divisions: Professional Bachelors Academic Bachelors and Masters HUB's professional programmes are geared towards professional practice and aim to prepare students for the independent exercise of a profession. They are practice-oriented and include work placements. All HUB Bachelor programmes consist of 180 European credits (ECTS) and on average take three years of full-time study. The professional Bachelors include 4 fields of study that offer 12 undergraduate programmes: Business Studies (Operations Management, Office Management, Applied Informatics) Education (Nursery Teaching, Primary Education, Secondary Education) Health Care (Occupational Therapy, Medical Imaging, Nursing, Optics & Optometry) Social and Community Work (Social Work, Socio -educational Care Work) There are 3 Belgian campuses: Campus Brussel (Erasmus, Hermes, Terranova, T Serclaes buildings), Campus Parnas and Campus Hoger Instituut voor Gezinswetenschappen. 4 Your host country, Belgium Belgium Four successive reforms of the status of the Belgian state (1970, 1980, , and 1993) have been necessary to establish the current status of the Kingdom of Belgium. Belgium is a Federal State and is composed of three Communities and three regions. The Communities are constituted by the people, the language they use and cultural background they share. Belgium has three official languages: Dutch, French and German and is thus subdivided in the Flemish community, the French Community and the German-speaking community. The concept of Region is based on the historical aspiration to more economical autonomy. There are three Regions, the Flemish Region (Flanders), the Region of Brussels-Capital, and the Walloon Region (Wallonia), which might be compared to the American States and the German Länder. The country is also subdivided into 10 Provinces and 589 Municipalities.

5 The City of Brussels Brussels is: Capital of Belgium, the so-called Brussels-capital region - consisting of Brussels' centre and the 19 communes Capital of Flanders (northern part of Belgium) - Capital of Europe - European Commission, European Parliament Home of Nato, Benelux Economic Union, Eurocontrol Home of students Students from all over the world have been studying in the Belgian capital. You can be one of them. Today, the universities and university colleges in Brussels accommodate about students. Brussels is a very lively city, which offers many activities to residing students. Thanks to its cinemas, theatres, museums and art galleries, as well as sports accommodation and nightlife, Brussels is never likely to be tiresome, on the contrary. Temporary exhibitions, as of the Belgian artists Magritte, Delvaux (surrealism) and Khnopff (symbolism) for instance, complement the permanent exhibitions perfectly. A visit to the cartoon museum or a mini-comic strip tour through Brussels passing the wardrobe of Manneken Pis are only a few aspects of what Brussels has to offer. 6 Arriving in Brussels How to get to Brussels? Brussels Airport is located in Zaventem. The easiest, quickest and cheapest way to get to the centre of Brussels is by train: the railway station is at the airport. If you land at Brussels South Charleroi Airport, you can take the bus to Charleroi railway station or take the shuttle to Brussels centre. By train: All major train lines cross Brussels. There are three stations in Brussels: Brussels North (Noord/Nord), Brussels Central (Centraal/Central), Brussels South (Zuid/Midi). Get off at the right station, which in Brussels Central Station. The international trains (Eurostar/Thalys) arrive at (depart from) Brussels South.. How to get to Campus Brussel? By train: Get off at Brussel Centraal/Bruxelles Central (Central station). Leave the building either through the main exit (on a street called Putterie) or through the main entrance (on the corner of Keizerinlaan/Boulevard de l Impératrice and Putterie). Descend the Keizerinlaan/Boulevard de l Impératrice, thereby leaving the gothic spire of the city hall behind you on your left. Once you have reached the Cathedral of Saint-Michael on your right and the name of the street has changed to Berlaimontlaan/Boulevard Berlaimont, turn immediately to the left. This is Stormstraat/Rue d Assaut. At the intersection between Stormstraat/Rue d Assaut and Warmoesberg, you will find the main entrance (building wi th revolving door). By metro: take line 1 or 4 (depening on where you are) and get off at Central Station (Centraal Station/Gare Centrale). By bus: the lines 29, 38, 63, 66 and 71 all stop in front of Campus Brussel. How to get to Campus Terranova? By train: Get off at Brussel Centraal/Bruxelles Central (Central station). Leave the building either through the main exit (on a street called Putterie) or through the main entrance (on the corner of Keizerinlaan/Boulevard de l Impératrice and Putterie). Descend the Keizerinlaan/Boulevard de l Impératrice, thereby leaving the gothic spire of the city hall behind you on your left. Once you have reached the Cathedral of Saint-Michael on your right and the name of the street has changed to Berlaimontlaan/Boulevard Berlaimont, turn immediately to the left. Take the first street in your left, you will see Campus Terranova in front of you. By tram: Take line 3, 4, 25, 31, 32 or 33 which stop at Rogier. Prerequisites This course is open to Medical Imaging students, including Erasmus students from partners of the Erasmus Radiography Group. 5.
