1 DETROIT LIONS INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTIONS Thank you for your interest in an internship with the Detroit Lions and Ford Field Management. The following is a short summary of internships offered by the Detroit Lions for the 2012 football season. Full internship descriptions will be posted on the Lions Job Board when the positions become available. Please sign up on the Lions Job Board for future notification of positions. Athletic Training Intern Assist with day to day operations of the Athletic Training Department: including prepping Training Rooms, stocking supplies, and providing coverage for practices and games. Assist with the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Have at least completed sophomore year or higher at a 4-year degree university and maintained a minimum 2.5 GPA while majoring in athletic training. Candidates should be interested in improving Athletic Training and professional skills in order to prepare for a career as an Athletic Trainer. Candidates must have successful experience working in a collaborative and team oriented environment and act with integrity and personal accountability. Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Training Camp (Late July - Early September) / 70+ hours per week Broadcasting Intern Assist with the day to day operations of the Broadcasting department: including assisting in the production of all radio and television programming. Will also assist with all game day production at Ford Field, will work home games with our production crew, and will gather material for the NFL Network. GPA while majoring in broadcasting, television production/editing, or a related field. Must have a working knowledge of a non-linear editing program (Avid preferred) and a working knowledge of professional football. Candidates must have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
2 Fall or Summer / up to 40 hours per week. Interns must have the ability to work with a flexible schedule, Community Affairs Intern Assists with day to day activities within the Community Affairs department including: planning, organizing, and execution of training camp, community group involvement, community requests, composes press releases and feature stories, maintains databases for appearances and donation requests, coordinates player/staff appearances, and community events. Will also administer charity ticket program and work with website and social media for community projects. GPA while majoring in sports management, communications, or a related field. Excellent communications skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office required. July -January / 40+ hours per week. Interns must have the ability to work with a flexible schedule, Equipment Intern Assists Equipment Manager(s) with all duties associated with department including: preparing lockers, washing/folding laundry, setting-up/breaking-down field before and after practice, and assisting at practice as needed. GPA. Must be A.E.M.A. certified or working towards certification. Candidates must have successful experience working in a collaborative and team oriented environment and act with integrity and personal accountability. Minimum of 2 year of football experience required. Candidates must have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Training Camp Only (4 weeks in July - August) / 35+ hours per week. Interns must have the ability to work with a flexible schedule, including being available for major scheduled events on nights, weekends, and holidays and possible travel.
3 Football Operations/Player Development Intern Assists with day to day activities of the departments including team travel and training camp. Will manage and update departmental programs and databases, and assist director with life skills/education seminars and presentations. GPA. Sports Management majors preferred. Previous football experience required, (i.e. player, manager, and/or experience working in a college football office.) Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, and exceptional driving record required. Strong emphasis on confidentiality and trustworthiness. July -January / 60+ hours per week during Training Camp, 40+ hours per week during the regular season. High level of commitment required. Intern will work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Early mornings and late nights required. Marketing Intern Assists with day to day operations of department including: marketing and promotions for the Detroit Lions and Ford Field. Will assist with planning, preparation, and execution associated with Training Camp, game days, and tailgate events. Administrative duties include: mailings, data input, requests, fan requests, event organization, and other duties as assigned. Bachelor s degree in marketing or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and experience in sport management via minor, clubs, involvement in campus activities, or leisure is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. June - January / 40+ hours per week. Interns must have the ability to work with a flexible schedule,
4 Marketing (Training Camp) Intern post- Assists with daily operations of Training Camp including: event set-up, parking, guest check-in, practice autograph sessions and other duties as assigned. Have at least completed junior year or higher at a 4-year degree seeking university and maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. Experience in marketing and/or sport management via minor, clubs, involvement in campus activities or leisure required. Previous event and/or football experience preferred. Training Camp (4 weeks in July-August) / 40+ hours per week. Intern must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, Training Camp Assistants will work outdoors the entire time. Media Relations and New Media Intern The Digital Media intern will assist in the day to day operations of the production and publication of content for Detroitlions.com, stream post-game press conferences, game photography, and game coverage. Will be highly collaborative, have strong writing skills, be a proficient user of Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Illustrator. Candidate must have solid knowledge of social networking platforms and previous experience using a CMS. June - May / 40+ hours per week. Interns must have the ability to work with a flexible schedule, including being available for major scheduled events on nights, weekends, and holidays.
5 Scouting/Pro Personnel Intern The intern will assist with and support college and pro football scouting. This includes assisting with scouting projects, gathering information, and assisting with practice and workouts as needed. Undergraduate degree required; master s degree in progress, with emphasis on Sports Administration. Previous football experience required, (i.e. player, manager, and/or experience working in a college football office). Excellent computer and typing skills, accuracy, and proofreading skills required. Confidentiality and maturity is a must. August - January or January-April / 40+ hours per week. Intern must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, Sponsorship & Suite Sales Intern Assists with day to day operations of the Sponsorship & Suite Sales department, including contract implementation, attending to guest/client concerns and needs, and maintaining high standards for guest satisfaction. Assists with client services on event days including Field and Stadium Promotions, Suite and Advertising administration, and other game-day events as needed. GPA. Sports Management and Business majors preferred. Candidates must have strong organizational skills, and excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and Photoshop. Must be dynamic, out-going, and customer service focused. July - February / 30+ hours per week. Interns must have the ability to work with a flexible schedule,
6 Video Department Intern Assist with day to day operations of the Video department including: equipment set up, camera operation during practice, workouts, special assignments, and downloading video (digitize or capture) into video server. Assist and check NCAA game footage brought into the system throughout the season. GPA while majoring in broadcasting, video production, or related field. Must have knowledge of broadcast equipment (Sony SX, Panasonic P2). Experience with post-production video editors (Avid, Pinnacle, Final Cut Pro) strongly preferred. Experience working with schools football program preferred. Varying, 3 months-1 year (May - May) / Up to 40+ per week. Intern must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including being available nights, weekends, and holidays. Youth Football Program Intern Assists with all Detroit Lions Youth Football Programs including Summer Camps, Half-time Youth Football Games, 7 on 7 High School Passing Tournament, Detroit Lions Kids Club, and Detroit Lions Coaching Academy, and Clinics. GPA. Preferred majors include coaching, teaching, event management, marketing, or sports administration. A sports background is preferred but not necessary. Candidates must have strong desire to work with children ages 6-14, a valid driver s license, and an excellent driving record. May August, 40+ hours per week. Intern must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including being available for major scheduled events on nights, weekends, and holidays. Travel to youth camps required.
