FLUSH LL WTER LINES PRIOR TO MKING ONNETIONS. The Sloan GEM Flushometer is designed to operate with 10 to 100 psi (69 to 689 kpa) of water pressure. THE MINIMUM PRESSURE REQUIRE TO THE VLVE IS ETERMINE Y THE TYPE OF FIXTURE SELETE. onsult fixture manufacturer for minimum pressure requirements. Most Low onsumption water closets require a minimum flowing pressure of 5 psi (17 kpa). Many building codes and the SME fixture standard list maximum static water pressure as 80 PSI.!!! IMPORTNT!!! With the exception of ontrol Stop Inlet, O NOT use pipe sealant or plumbing grease on any valve component or coupling!!!! IMPORTNT!!! Never open ontrol Stop to where the flow from the valve exceeds the flow capability of the fixture. In the event of a valve failure, the fixture must be able to accommodate a continuous flow from the valve.!!! IMPORTNT!!! Protect the chrome or special finish of Gem Flushometers O NOT USE toothed tools to install or service these valves. Use a Sloan -50 Super-Wrench, Sloan -109 Plier Wrench or smooth jawed spud wrench to secure all couplings. lso see are and leaning section of this manual.!!! IMPORTNT!!! This product contains mechanical and/or electrical components that are subject to normal wear. These components should be checked on a regular basis and replaced as needed to maintain the valve s performance. TOOLS REQUIRE FOR INSTLLTION Straight blade screwdriver Sloan -50 Super-Wrench, Sloan -109 Plier Wrench or smooth jawed spud wrench If you have questions about how to install your Gem Flushometer, consult your local Sloan Representative or call Sloan Installation Engineering epartment at: SLON-14 ( ) 1 Install Optional Sweat Solder dapter (only if your supply pipe does not have a male thread) Measure from finished wall to /L of Fixture Spud. ut pipe 1¼ ( mm) shorter than this measurement. hamfer O.. and I.. of water supply pipe. Slide Threaded dapter fully onto pipe. WTER SUPPLY PIPE FINISHE WLL 1-1/4 ( mm) Install over Tube, Wall Flange and ontrol Stop to supply pipe Measure from finished wall to first thread of dapter or threaded supply pipe (dimension X ). ut over Tube to this length. Slide over Tube over pipe. Slide Wall Flange over over Tube until against wall. WTER SUPPLY PIPE SWET SOLER PTER OVER TUE WLL FLNGE Sweat solder the dapter to pipe. SWET SOLER PTER Thread ontrol Stop onto pipe. Tighten with a wrench. SET SREW IRON PIPE NIPPLE OR OPPER PIPE WITH SWET SOLER PTER /L OF FIXTURE SPU SET SREW OVER TUE (OVERING TUE N ST SET SREW VILLE IN YY SWET SOLER KIT)!!! IMPORTNT!!! With the exception of ontrol Stop Inlet, O NOT use pipe sealant or plumbing grease on any valve component or coupling! SUPPLY FLNGE Tighten Set Screw with a 1/16 hex wrench. 4 4 Install Vacuum reaker Flush onnection Install Flushometer NOTE Slide Spud oupling, Nylon Slip Gasket, Rubber Gasket and Spud Flange over Vacuum reaker Tube. MOELS 10, 11, 1, 17 MOELS 110/111, 115, 16 VUUM REKER TUE MOEL 180 MOEL 186 VUUM REKER ELOW FLUSH ONNETION For high efficiency urinal flushometers (0.5, 0.5 and 0.15 gpf), it is necessary to first insert the flow control component into the tailpiece assembly. See the H1015 flow control kit and separate instructions for details on how to install. VUUM REKER TUE SPU OUPLING SPU FLNGE SPU OUPLING NYLON SLIP RUER SPU FLNGE NYLON SLIP Lubricate tailpiece O-ring with water. Insert djustable Tailpiece into ontrol Stop. Tighten Tailpiece oupling by hand. lign Flushometer directly above the Vacuum reaker Flush onnection by sliding the Flushometer ody IN or OUT as needed. Tighten Vacuum reaker oupling by hand. SPU OUPLING NYLON SLIP RUER RUER NOTE Maximum adjustment of the Sloan djustable Tailpiece is 1/ (1 mm) IN or OUT from the standard 4-/4 (11 mm) (centerline of Flushometer to centerline of ontrol Stop). SPU FLNGE If roughing-in measurement exceeds 5-1/4 (1 mm), consult factory for longer tailpiece. Insert Tube into Fixture Spud. Hand tighten Spud oupling onto Fixture Spud. NOTE On valves furnished less vacuum breaker (XYV Variation) connect flush tube to the bottom of the valve using the slip gasket supplied. 4 5 Install Flushometer (ontinued) ONTROL STOP TILPIEE OUPLING 1 HNLE SSEMLY lign Flushometer ody and securely tighten first the Tailpiece oupling (1), then the Vacuum reaker oupling (), and finally the Spud oupling (). Use a wrench to tighten these couplings in the order shown. If not installed, install Handle ssembly with Gasket to handle opening on Flushometer ody. Tighten Handle ssembly securely. Flush Out Supply Line Make sure ontrol Stop is LOSE and remove Flushometer over. FLUSHOMETER OY O-RING Lift out Piston ssembly. JUSTLE TILPIEE G-44 FRITION RING VUUM REKER OUPLING VUUM REKER REPIR KIT SPU OUPLING VUUM REKER FLUSH ONNETION Install Flushometer over wrench tight. Open ontrol Stop to flush supply line. lose ontrol Stop and remove Flushometer over. /L FIXTURE 4-/4 (11 mm) ±1/ (1 mm) /L SUPPLY 4 Reinstall Piston ssembly and Flushometer over. Tighten Flushometer over wrench tight.

TURN OUNTER- LOKWISE TO OPEN TURN LOKWISE TO LOSE djust ontrol Stop after each flush until the rate of flow delivered properly cleanses the fixture.!!! IMPORTNT!!! The Sloan Gem Flushometer is engineered for quiet operation. Excessive water flow creates noise, while too little water flow may not satisfy the needs of the fixture. Proper adjustment is made when plumbing fixture is cleansed after each flush without splashing water out from the lip N a quiet flushing cycle is achieved. Never open ontrol Stop to where the flow from the valve exceeds the flow capability of the fixture. In the event of a valve failure, the fixture must be able to accommodate a continuous flow from the valve. Install Vandal Resistant ontrol Stop ap onto ontrol Stop. ONTROL STOP P H-700- K HEK ONTROL STOP TROULESHOOTING GUIE 1. Valve does not function (no flush).. ontrol Stop or Main Valve is losed. Open ontrol Stop or Main Valve.. Handle ssembly is worn. Replace Sloan Handle ssembly (G-14-).. Relief Valve is worn and sticking in UP position. Replace Piston.. Volume of water is not sufficient to siphon fixture.. ontrol Stop not open enough. djust ontrol Stop for desired delivery of water.. Urinal Piston Parts inside a loset Flushometer. Replace Piston Parts with proper loset Piston.. Low onsumption Flushometer installed on a non-low onsumption fixture. Replace with proper Piston Kit.. Inadequate volume or pressure at supply. Increase water pressure or supply (flow) to Flushometer. onsult Factory for assistance.. Length of flush is too short (Short Flushing) or Flushometer closes off immediately.. Piston ssembly is not hand-tight. Screw the assembly hand-tight.. Enlarged ypass orifice from corrosion or damage. Install NEW Inside Piston Kit to correct problem and update Flushometer.. Urinal Piston in loset Flushometer. Replace Piston with proper loset Piston.. Low onsumption Piston installed in non-low onsumption fixture. Replace Piston with proper loset Piston. E. Handle ssembly is worn. Replace Sloan Handle ssembly (G-14-). 4. Length of flush is too long (Long Flushing) or fails to close off.. Piston is not seating properly or ypass orifice is clogged because of foreign material, or ypass orifice is closed by an invisible gelatinous film from overtreated water. isassemble the working parts and wash thoroughly. NOTE: SIZE OF THE ORIFIE IN THE YPSS IS OF UTMOST IMPORTNE FOR THE PROPER METERING OF WTER INTO THE UPPER HMER OF THE FLUSHOMETER. O NOT ENLRGE OR MGE THIS ORIFIE. REPLE PISTON IF LENING OES NOT ORRET PROLEM.. Line pressure has dropped and is not sufficient to force Relief Valve to seat. Shut off all control stops until pressure has been restored, then open them again...5 gpf loset Piston has been used in a 1.0 or 1.5 gpf Urinal or on a 1.6 gpf Toilet. Replace with proper Piston.. G-1 Main Seat is fouled with debris or is worn. lean or replace G-1 Main Seat Leaking at Handle ssembly.. The -9 Seal is worn or deteriorated. Install new -9 Seal. NOTE: The -9 Seal will easily slide onto the ushing if it is wet.. Handle gasket has been omitted. Replace Sloan Handle ssembly (G-14-).. Valve Handle ushing is worn. Replace Sloan Handle ssembly (G-14-). Refer to the GEM Flushometer Maintenance Guide for additional Troubleshooting and Repair Part information. When assistance is required, please contact Sloan Valve ompany Installation Engineering epartment at: SLON-14 ( ) RE N LENING OF HROME N SPEIL FINISHES O NOT use abrasive or chemical cleaners (including chlorine bleach) to clean Flushometers that may dull the luster and attack the chrome or special decorative finishes. Use ONLY mild soap and water, then wipe dry with clean cloth or towel. While cleaning the bathroom tile, protect the Flushometer from any splattering of cleaner. cids and cleaning fluids will discolor or remove chrome plating.
