5 Bachelor s Degree Programmes Information Technology The objective of Bachelor s Degree Programmes in Adult Education are to improve the level and quality of professionalism of the adult population and to implement regional, educational and language-group-specific equality. Universities of applied sciences have a possibility to offer studies in adult education within the framework of their own educational purpose. A special task is to provide opportunities for grown-ups to upgrade post-secondary higher vocational / college level degrees to a higher (tertiary) education Bachelor s degrees awarded by a university of applied sciences. The studies are arranged as evening and multiform studies, giving students also a possibility to work during the daytime. At the beginning of the studies Individual Study Plans are put in place according to previous qualification/s and work experience. Extent of the programme is 240 credit points and it will take about 4 years to complete, but some of the student s previous studies might be transferable and can possibly be counted in to shorten the length of the studies. The Ministry of Education annually sets an annual average student quota for each university of applied sciences. The education and training provided is subsidised by the Government and free of charge to the students. 5
6 Bachelor s Degree Programme conducted as evening/multiform studies Information Technology An excellent opportunity to learn a new profession or update the old one in Information Technology! As the programme is designed for people in full-time employment, these studies will enable the student to have a daytime job whilst studying. The main objective of the Programme is to equip the student with the most up-to-date and high quality knowledge and skills. The degree gives a solid basis to work as an engineer anywhere in the world as the student will also become familiar with the intercultural aspects due to the multi-cultural study environment and student community. In addition to strong engineering skills student will gain understanding of their impact on economy and environment at work, and have possibility to learn language and communication as well as business skills to enhance engineering competence. The focus of the instruction is in areas such as communication and data networks, embedded engineering, information systems, and software engineering. Studies are often laboratory oriented and instruction methods are based on practicality and hands-on experience at work. Equipment and software are similar to and used in teaching as in real working life. The idea is to offer students a possibility to study and experience the practice at the same time, so they are fully geared towards working life after graduation. Courses are held during weekday evenings and possibly during some weekends. This programme is especially aimed at people who are unable to study during the day, and yet want to achieve a highly valued engineering degree in the field of ICT.
