3 Getting Around Interface Moving about the map If you have a three button mouse, use scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Place the cursor anywhere inside the map window and scroll forward to zoom in or scroll backwards to zoom out. The location of your cursor will determine where you zoom in or out from. You can also use the Zoom In or Zoom Out tools from the Getting Around tab. (1) These tools can be particularly useful if you want to quickly zoom in to an area of interest. To zoom to an area click on the Zoom In tool and then press and drag your left mouse button to draw a rectangle of the area you want to zoom to. If you don t drag a box it will just to the centre point. Note: The default tool when none has been selected is Pan Reset and Go Back To go back to your last extent before you either zoomed or panned just click on the Getting Around tab and then click the Go Back arrow. Similarly you can use the Go Forward arrow to reset that. (3) If you want to go back to the initial extent (when the viewer loads for the first time) you can click on the Initial View button. Searching a feature Use the Search Feature box in the top right hand corner of the viewer window. You can use this to search numerous data types such as property_no, address, legal description, land_no, assessment, reserve name, asset_id, compkey, etc. Note: this is a free text search. This will list multiple features on the left panel. Choose the one you want and click the icon to zoom to features. Finding a Specific Feature Using Dropdown List There are also tools with predictive lists you can use, if you are unsure of spelling or whether a record exists. This shows a search panel on the left & automatically zooms to feature. For example, put in the first one or two letters into the road search and a drop down list appears. Make your selection hit OK and it will zoom to it. 3

4 Showing the Legend To view, on the layers tab click the Panel menu Identifying Features From the Getting Around or Analysis Tab choose the identify button and a droplist of functions are presented. This can be used to spatially select the features of interest. There is also a query tool that queries the attributes in the table. Simply chose the tool and then select the area of interest. Point Tool will identify/select feature and the other tools will select multiple. From your selection you can also query or filter those records and the subselection saved as a csv file into Excel. Clicking the Panel action as seen below right will activate the Export to CSV function one menu How do I identify more than one feature? Use polygon, polyline, rectangle or freehand tool and select multiple features. Why doesn't my address search bring any results up? Ensure that you are spelling the search query exactly or choose the custom search option. The address may not be on our database, or district. Some rural addresses, or reserves don't always have house numbers. 4

5 The address supplied by a resident/external contact might be different from what is in our records, ie we might have it numbered as off one road, but it is numbered off the road that the property "backs onto". Search Results Description panel is only a cut down version of all the attribute details. As above you can sub-select from the list and export results to Excel. Note above you can copy and paste the description details by right clicking or Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+V to paste. Measuring From the dropdown box (1) select whether you want to measure an area, or a line. Click for each vertex click on the map. Double click to finish. You could also change units from dropdown if required. By default it labels dimensions but you can erase or clear these, and also label multiple measurements. Left is a line, to create area close the figure. Printing At the moment we can only print to PDF or to JPEG format. The print menu can be accessed from either the I want to button or from the Tasks tab. Once you have clicked on print you have an option of layouts to choose from in portrait and landscape in A3 and A4 (1). 5

6 Now choose your output format (2); PDF or JPEG. Choose to print either to your current map scale or print the extents of the map window as shown (3). Choosing to print by extents will generally change the scale of the map. Click Create File to print your map. Open this file when prompted. A template will be printed that also displays the scale of the map and a map legend. This legend will contain all of the layers that are active at the time of printing. Note: printing to landscape will usually print a more accurate representation of the map window you see in your browser Using Layers Turning on Aerials The Base Maps button to toggle layers on and off is no longer in this viewer version but may return in subsequent releases? So go to the bottom of the layers list to turn on, as below. How do I turn on/off layers? On the left hand side of the viewer is the Map Layers menu. This menu is open by default when you load the viewer however if you need to find it again click on the map layers icon (1) at the bottom of the info menu You know when this is active because it has the tab called Layers (2). This displays all of the layers that are possible to view on the map. A majority of these layers are grouped into categories (e.g. Sewer). You can tell a group from a single layer as a group will have a black arrow beside it (3). Clicking on this arrow will open up the group to display all of the sublayers. To turn a layer on you tick its corresponding box. (4) To turn the layer off again simply untick it. Note: If a layer is part of a group then both the group name and sublayer need to be ticked for it to be displayed. How do I see the legend? (Map Key) To view the map legend click on the Show Legend button from the Map Layers menu. (5) 6

7 How Do I Change Transparency? Use the slider to see through layers. Hint: you can view changes in aerial photos using this method, or planning layers etc. by dragging the property slider. Finding Coordinates This viewer you cannot enter directly or flag coordinate locations but this may be included in later versions. A simple method to show coordinates is by clicking the arrow (1) the coordinates of the mouse position appears. You can also change coordinate systems by using arrow, for example Lat/Long (DD) which is used for GPS. Adding Markup by Drawing on Maps To Access the drawing tools click on the tab and from the dropdown arrow (1) choose the tool you want to use from the list. The application is similar to previous version as you can edit (2), erase and clear all (3) drawings and text. To set colour and type, select the Styles button and the styles for the active tool will be selectable Using Themes To save some time some themes have been added as a quick short cut. It turns only layers and removes a few. For example to see planning layers, instead of turning on/off layers just select from the list. You can toggle back to all available layers or choose another (1). If you are in a business group where this can be useful then tell us what you would like added. Note these are used for LIMs (2) Export Map How Do I Export a Map Image? You may not require a legend so instead of printing you can send a map screenshot. To save the map image, for example to copy and paste into a word document or , then use the export map Function from Maps&Data tab. Othert versions you may right click anywhere inside the map window and select Export a Map Image (1) You will be given an option of several different image formats (2), choose one and press Create Image. Once your image is 7

8 created you will be prompted to View the Image (3) or if you made a mistake you can press Back. In future we will develop this function so it s a one click map function Maps and Data Sources How Do I see Information About our Data? On this tab you may also notice our button for adding data from the internet is not in this version. Our metadata link remains (1).Once activated You can search (Ctrl+F), or click a link at the top. This will provide information as to who created the data, when, how it gets updated, who is responsible, notes about how to use it, Copyright and whether it can be supplied freely etc. For any more information call GIS Team. Using Google Street Maps From the Data and Map Sources Tab click the Third Party Map icon to activate tool click icon. This will zoom to where you are, or where you have selected on the map and then present the location in a split screen. You can drag the screen (3), or place into a new window on another screen. You can use the arrows to navigate in StreetMap (1) or use the Blue Dot indicator and drag that around the map. In future this will become activated with a right click on the street in the map as it used to be. 8

9 Data Extracts You may from time to time need to provide data to consultants/third parties. Please check metadata that these can be provided freely. The Data Extract tool prompts you to select the area you wish to provide the data for. Choose the data to be provided using shift key for selecting multiple. Then choose the area and output format. The top few outputs are GIS and the bottom as for CAD. Using DTM Tools How Do I Create A Terrain Profile? To create a cross section for a profile simply click the Profile tool and then create a transect line. As output a graph appears that you can drag your cursor across which shows where on the map that elevation refers to.
