SUPPORTING EVIDENCE Adult overweight/obesity rate in Iowa is 66.2% Childhood obesity rate is 11.2% Working Iowans spend more than 40 hours/week on work & work-related tasks Health insurance premiums increased 10.1% across all employers between 2010 & 2011 More than 91,000 small businesses in Iowa many do not have employee wellness programs

16 WORKSITE WELLNESS INITIATIVES Environmental Change Examples o o Environmental Change Nutrition A worksite conducts NEMS-V assessments on the onsite vending machines & makes changes to the offerings providing 30% that meet the healthy criteria Physical Activity A worksite conducts a stairwell audit to ensure that stairwells are well-lit, safe, and inviting. The CDC s StairWELL to Better Health signs are hung promoting stairwell usage.
17 COLLEGIATE WELLNESS COORDINATORS Identified that this group has very specific needs & information in address health and wellness needs of staff, faculty, & students Collaborative effort between Educational Settings & Worksite Wellness Workgroups of the Iowans Fit for Life partnership Received funding from Iowa Cancer Consortium First meeting hosted in April 2010 at Grand View University Group continues to meet annually at a new college/university location
