1 Some Information about Centre for Better Living Department Summary Kangan Batman TAFE s Centre for Better Living (CBL) Department is an acknowledged leader of vocational education and training services within Victoria. Since its inception more than a decade ago, it has been at the forefront of developments and innovations aimed at addressing individual and organisational training needs. Our Vision and Mission Vision To be the leading provider of Centre for Better Living (CBL) vocational education and training in Victoria. Our Services We provide vocational education, training and related services designed and delivered to meet the needs of individuals and organisations within the CS&H industry. Drawing on the expertise of other Kangan Batman TAFE staff, we can also provide a range of services including workplace assessor training, training needs assessment, curriculum development, customisation and training materials development. Our concept of good service flows from our vision and mission and embraces the following practices: consultation to establish training needs negotiation about the place, time and method of delivery creation of pathways between prior learning, accredited training and further education recognition of existing skills via RPL assessments before and during training provision of experienced professionals who are in touch with the emerging training needs of the sector experiential learning strategies evaluation during and at the conclusion of training with necessary changes made immediately innovative and creative approaches to problems minimising the costs of training building partnerships that result in productive long-term relationships

4 How to use this Booklet All questions are to be answered in this booklet in the space provided, in the candidate s own time. This booklet is to be successfully completed to a considered standard prior to commencing this course as a condition of entry into the course. An assessor will then mark the booklet and the candidate will then be given approval to proceed into participating in the course a Certificate will be issued as evidence of completion.. This requirement is a mandatory directive from the NBV (Nurses Board of Victoria) and no other arrangement can be made. The workbook is NOT returned to you to protect the credibility of the workbook and prevent it s misuse by others

5 Anatomy & Physiology Workbook Introduction In July 2004 Kangan Batman TAFE and other selected RTO s can offer the Course in Medication Administration for Division 2 Registered Nurses (21506 VIC). The course has several pre-requisites, summarised below. Staff who are currently Registered Nurses in Division 2 of the Nurses Board Victoria and have completed their Certificate IV in Health (Nursing) or equivalent after 1995 will be eligible to participate in this course. Currently Registered Nurses in Division 2, who trained prior to 1995, will be required to successfully complete the following upgrade courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology and successfully complete a VETASSESS Literacy and Numeracy assessment prior to proceeding to this course. The requirement for pre 1995 graduates of the Certificate IV in Health (Nursing) to upskill in Anatomy & Physiology are met by Kangan Batman TAFE s Anatomy & Physiology Refresher short course. The short course is accredited by Kangan Batman TAFE and is completed through this workbook. Language Literacy and Numeracy The language, literacy and numeracy entry requirements cover: reading oral communication numeracy The competencies are in the context of a nursing environment. These requirements are equivalent to level 4 for indicators of competence in reading, writing and oral communication and level 3 in numeracy in the National Reporting System. Although it is not a requirement for entry to the course you should also consider how these competencies relate to undertaking study. At times the workload in this course will require that you undertake self-study and do individual research. It will be an advantage to have information communication technology (ICT) skills for internet research, word processing and presentation of information and to have developed strong study skills

6 Anatomy and Physiology 21506VIC MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FOR DIVISION 2 REGISTERED NURSES (VIC) The content covers: how drugs/medication work (pharmacodynamics) how drugs are absorbed and made available in the body (pharmacokinetics) the intended effects and possible adverse reactions that drugs have on the body. Successful completion will demonstrate the student s knowledge in anatomy and physiology and allow commencement of the Medication Administration for Division 2 Registered Nurses (VIC) course.
