History of Global University Global University has a distinguished heritage spanning almost six decades. The Distance Education Schools developed because it was recognised that not everyone who desired ministerial preparation could attend a residential Bible training institution. The Berean School of the Bible was created in 1947 providing distance education for ministerial candidates. International Correspondence Institute (ICI) was founded to provide evangelism, discipleship, workersʼ training as well as bachelorʼs degrees to students all over the world. ICI became ICI University in Both the Berean School and International Correspondence Institute grew rapidly and merged with the same mission and educational approach. This merger became Global University. Global University now has four schools: (1) School for Evangelism and Discipleship (2) Berean School of the Bible (3) Undergraduate school of Bible and Theology and (4) Graduate School of Theology. All of these schools of Global University are truly global in outreach. Dr Gary Seevers Jr. (pictured left) is the current President. Mission of Global University Global University is a Christian University in the Pentecostal tradition that: integrates education and service through a worldwide network. provides access to ministerial training from discipleship to postgraduate level. produces curricular and materials in multiple languages. serves the local church and Christian community through evangelism, discipleship and leadership training through nonresidential distributed learning methods. 3

History of ICI College Australia Global University has national colleges in over 200 countries which are generally known as ICI Colleges. ICI College Australia commenced in Originally based in Brisbane, it initially formed the diploma and bachelor s curriculum of the Commonwealth Bible College. The College was moved to Katoomba, then Chester Hill, New South Wales. In the early 1990s ICI College Australia had dozens of students around the country and then became an exclusively Distance Education College. By the end of the 1990s it was separated from the Commonwealth Bible College (which had changed its name to Southern Cross College, then Alpha Crusis). A few years after this, its Assemblies of God (Australian Christian Churches) oversight relinquished its interest in the College. In 2003, it was relocated to Tasmania. It now has students all across Australia from many denominations - Evangelical and Pentecostal. Global University is accredited by the prestigious Higher Learning Commission. ICI College Australia is now one of the most highly regarded providers of Biblical, Theological and Ministry training by distance in Australia. We recently introduced the Graduate School programs for Post-Graduate studies. It is our vision to help train and equip those called to Christian ministry - either as a vocational call, or service within a local church. It is our goal that our graduates will help address the urgent and growing need in Australia to eradicate Biblical illiteracy and demonstrate how God s Word connects with the challenge of life today. Letter from ICI College Australia President The pursuit of knowledge is often categorised as either head or heart knowledge. Some people thus regard the pursuit of more advanced theological or Biblical knowledge as merely acquiring head knowledge. But true knowledge has no such categories. True knowledge stimulates the mind and informs the heart. The challenge of graduate studies is its own reward and its produce is a sharpened mind more closely in rhythm with a heart for God and people. The Holy Spirit enables some to go deeper so they can lead others deeper. Graduate study programs help to achieve this. Is the Holy Spirit calling you to go deeper? Andrew Corbett President of ICI College Australia. 4

Graduate School of Theology The mission of the Graduate school of Theology is to provide advanced, in-depth, specialised study of the Bible and related subjects at the post-bachelorʼs degree level. Its purpose is to equip students with skills and methodologies to prepare them to be life-long learners as they participate in individual research, personal scholarship and practical application. Special attention is given to preparing students to teach and minister the uniqueness of the Christian faith from a Pentecostal unction and perspective. The Graduate School of Theology offers post-baccalaureate degrees and certificates through structured distance-education utilising mentors and printed/electronic materials to guide students in their study and research. Up to 4 subjects can be done as an undeclared program then Graduate Studies Certificates (6 subject programs) are offered in New Testament Studies, Education, Intercultural Studies and Leadership or broad field concentrations. The Master s degree (15 subjects) are offered are a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies and Master of Arts in Ministerial Studies. We also offer Master of Divinity programs in Biblical Languages and Christian Ministry. These are 26 subject programs. Doctors of Ministry in either Biblical Studies or Church Ministry are a further 10 subjects. Students are encouraged to think reflectively on Biblical truth and ministry practices and to communicate the gospel effectively, both orally and in writing in the specific culture in which they live. Objectives in the courses will be assessed through course work or reflective papers, and a thesis (where applicable), service learning requirements, practicums, internships and language exams (where applicable). Letter from the Graduate School Dean Pioneer Pentecostal scholar and Englishman Donald Gee said it best: An educated preacher is good; an inspired teacher is better; and inspired, educated preacher is best. Our goal for Global University s Graduate School of Theology is to provide a level of training that is both academically challenging and saturated with the leading of the Holy Spirit, so our graduates will be educated and inspired to perform their calling with a servant s heart and in the power of the Holy Spirit. All faculty and staff of the Graduate School of Theology are committed to serving our students as we all learn and grow with them in Godliness and Spirit-led obedience to Jesus. One distinctive of our program is that it allows our students to study while in ministry rather than to study for ministry. Randy Hedlun, D.Th. Dean: Graduate School of Theology. 5

Course Codes and Components Each regular course/subject has a 6 month enrolment period. Exceptions to this are the RES6913 Research Methodology and RES8953 Dissertation Research and Proposal that have a 9 month enrolment period. A degree-plan-specific program can also have a thesis or dissertation (RES6926, RES8966) with a 1 year enrolment. The whole program must be completed within a 7 year period. When selecting a subject it is important to consider the following. The letters in a course code shows the division that the subject is in. The numerics indicate the difficulty and credit value of the subject. The first number identifies the year-level or difficulty of the course with the number 5, 6, 7 or 8. The second and third number are course identifier and the final number is the number of credits the course is given, therefore showing the amount of work required. Bible Studies Ministerial Studies General Education BIB Bible EDU Education RES Research BNT Bible New Testament LDR Leadership BOT Bible Old Testament MIN Ministries THE Theology MIS Missions For example, BNT5013 is a Bible New Testament first year subject worth 3 credits Courses contain several components for evaluation - a reflective paper, a spoken requirement, and some have a practicum or internship and specific courses (such as languages) have final examinations. At the end of the Master of Arts programs, if a thesis hasn t been completed, a ʻCapstoneʼ paper must be written. If a thesis has not been completed in the Master of Divinity program, a Theology of Ministry paper must be completed. The Doctoral studies student must complete a dissertation at the completion of the core subjects within the program, a comprehensive exam must be completed before a dissertation can be enrolled in. 7

Assignment Requirements It is expected with distance education, that students will spend approximately 135 hours in study, research and writing for each 3 credit course. (That is, 2-3 hrs per week per 6 month enrolment period, per credit.) For a 3 credit subject, this time distribution should include: 1. Assigned reading (a total of approximately 1000 pages, plus a further 500 pages for the doctoral program). 2. Interacting with study guide questions, using critical and contextual thinking. 3. Applying research techniques. The study guide provides the opportunity for students to refine and develop research techniques. 4. Writing. With the exception of the language courses, each unit of study requires students write assignments of words with a final paper of being words 5. Making practical application. A ʻService Learning Requirementʼ (SLR) is required with each subject. This is usually a spoken assignment showing that the student has been able to apply some of the knowledge gained by the course in a practical ministry setting. A written summary report ( words) needs to be submitted. This is peer evaluated, and although required by ICI/Global, is not a graded submission. 6. Evaluations. A portion of the students grade may be determined by a 2 hour proctored exam. Masterʼs Thesis Requirements Students who elect to write a thesis as a part of a Master of Arts or Master of Divinity degree program will be required to enrol in and write the thesis on an approved subject or topic that is specific to the degree plan the student has chosen. The thesis should be taken after RES6913 Research Methodology has been completed and when the student is within 12 credits of completing the program. By the time the student enrols in the thesis, they should have determined a thesis topic. The student works with an assigned mentor to clearly define the topic. The student will undertake individual research, applying the skills from Research Methodologies. The final work will include a one page abstract, and a 19,000-31,000 word document. The student is then required to proof read it and make an oral ʻdefence of the thesisʼ to a small committee (usually by electronic conferencing) before making a final submission. 8

Practicum Requirement All students who receive a Master of Divinity are required to complete a 3 credit fieldbased practicum within the last 12 credits required for the program. This is a supervised learning experience and can also be taken as a Master of Arts elective. A student is expected to engage in a minimum of 45 hours of ministry related activity within a 3 month period, this is in addition to the time required for the reading and writing components of the course. Typical practicum types include administrative, educational, evangelism, preaching and youth ministry. The Graduate School director, student, mentor and on site-practicum supervisor all need communications through this course. This requirement also requires reading (at least 200 pages), academic writing ( words), reflective writing (2500+ words) and a review. Capstone - Master of Arts A Master of Arts student who does not write a thesis must complete a ʻcapstoneʼ after completing all other components of their program. A capstone paper should be words and make use of reflection, evaluation. It must include citations from previous readings, research and scripture. In the capstone paper, the student will synthesise their philosophy of ministry, state the strategy to implement the stated philosophy and present a plan for soliciting feedback to determine whether the plan is effective. The paper will include a 5 year strategic ministry plan focussing on 2 or 3 points that have been learned in the courses just completed and how it has impacted their approach to ministry. Theology of Ministry Paper - Master of Divinity A Master of Divinity student who does not complete a thesis as part of their program will be required to complete a theology of Ministry paper in addition to and after the program has been completed. The paper should be 6,250-7,500 words and it must include citations from previous readings, research and scripture. The paper utilises 2 or 3 points that have been learned in the courses just completed. In the Theology of Ministry paper, the student will synthesize their theology of ministry, present a Biblical defense for this theology, develop a strategy to integrate theology and personal philosophy into a workable ministry plan for a given cultural setting, and present a plan to soliciting feedback to determine the effectiveness of the proposed ministry plan. 9

Doctoral Candidacy Examination Requirement A student must complete a supervised comprehensive doctoral candidacy examination and receive a minimum score of 83% (3.00), prior to being granted Doctor of Ministry degree candidacy status. The student is eligible to request to take the exam after completing all the Doctor of Ministry degree courses. The student must have a grade point average of 3.00 or higher for all graduate-level courses completed with Global University to qualify to apply for doctoral candidacy. This exam has a fee. Without achieving ʻdoctoral candidacyʼ the student will not be able to enrol in doctoral dissertation course. The exam is administered in 2 parts, and each part should take up to 3 hours. In the first part, the student will respond to 3 questions related to the core courses for the Doctor of Ministry program. The second part will require the student to respond to questions related to the studentʼs doctoral degree specialisation. Doctoral Dissertation Requirements All Doctor of Ministry degree candidates are required to complete one doctoral dissertation project. The dissertation is comprised of two parts (1) research and proposal and (2) writing and defense. To complete the project requirements, the student will be required to enrol in RES8953 Dissertation Research and Proposal, to research a topic and complete a dissertation project proposal approved by the dissertation advisor. Then the student must enrol in RES8966 Dissertation Writing and Defense. Students are encouraged to begin planning for the dissertation at the beginning of their program, even though they cannot enrol in these courses until they have completed all the core subjects and passed the Doctoral Candidacy exam. The process of pursuing the Doctoral dissertation involves choosing a topic with the help of a mentor, developing and applying research and writing skills, submitting a proposal, and writing a dissertation (of 19,000-31,000 words for exegetical projects or 31,000-43,000 for church ministry projects). It then involves several reviews and an oral defense of the dissertation to a ʻdissertation committeeʼ, usually by electronic conferencing. The paper will then need further editing and re-submitting and a sharing of the document. Assistance Faculty Mentors, approved by the Dean to mentor specific courses will be assigned to facilitate and assess the in-depth applied research and writing projects to be completed by the students who enrol in a given course. The mentor will guide the student in the directed coursework, be available for questions and assess the assignments. A Thesis Advisor is a Global University faculty member who is a content specialist. An advisor assists a Master of Arts or Master of Divinity student to formulate a problem, construct appropriate applied research questions, develop ideas, compose a proposal, conduct research, compile and analyze results in a written thesis, edit the thesis and prepare the thesis for evaluation. The Thesis Advisor also chairs the thesis committee when it is time for the student s evaluation. 10

A Dissertation Project Advisor is a Global University faculty member who is a content and research specialist. An advisor assists a student enrolled in a Doctor of Ministry program. The advisor has the same responsibilities for the student undertaking a dissertation as the thesis advisor has for the student doing a thesis. Graduate Academic Status Students are expected to maintain a GPA of 3.00, and a passing grade for each subject. Grading System Global University uses a 100-base numeric grading system for its graduate level courses based on the following grade percentages with equivalent letter grades and grade points. Grades will be ed to students at completion of each submission, and final grades Percentage Description Grade Point % A+ (superior) % A (excellent) % A- (excellent) % B+ (good) % B (good) % B- (good) % C+ (satisfactory) % C (below expectations) % C- (poor) 1.67 below 73% F (failing) 0 will not receive their certificate. given at the conclusion of the subject. Final grades can also be accessed at any stage on your Student Portal. A student whose cumulative grade point average falls below 3.00 will be put on ʻprobationʼ. This simply means that they will be restricted to only taking one subject at a time. If the students cumulative grade average is below 3.00 at the conclusion of their program, they To recognise distinctive academic achievements of students who study at a distance Global University are a part of an established Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society. 32 Doctor of Ministry - 30 credits The Doctor of Ministry is regarded as a terminal degree and is available in Church Ministries or Biblical Studies and Theology. Students who desire to pursue a doctoral degree will build upon foundational academic and research skills acquired the Masterʼs degree level. The Doctor of Ministry degree programs are designed to enhance the expertise of students who are in full-time Christian service. Completion of this program equips the student to lead research projects, teach in seminaries, write for scholarly Pentecostal publications and organisations in multiple countries and cultures, and author textbooks and other scholarly and ministry related publications, and train others in these. Those wishing to be accepted into a Doctor of Ministry degree program must have completed 78 graduate credits. The Doctor of Ministry degree requires students to complete 30 further graduate credits of doctoral studies. A student must complete all work required for this program in no fewer than 2 years and no more than 6 years from the date of enrolment. The Course Descriptions Booklet contains a précis of all of the subjects available. Students need to refer to this booklet to determine the elective subjects they wish to take. There are several reading and research subjects in the Doctor of Ministry program. They are typically written RES7813 and RES7823 but are noted as specialised studies in subject divisions (such as, BIB7813 is the Specialised Reading and Research in the Bible division). The ***7813 or ***7823 subjects are a specialised and discipline specific reading/research approach that requires a student to design and complete a plan that will enable them to fulfill a specialised study requirements for the completion of a degree program or project under the supervision of a mentor. Readings and research will meet a specific individual academic need and will not replace an existing course. The student must fulfill reading and research requirements that are academically equivalent or greater than that for an individual course at the same level of studies. Assignment submissions will include book reviews, annotated bibliographies and reflective essays. A student must complete all Core Courses for the degree program before enrolling in the specialised reading course. It is beneficial to study a subject relevant to the where the student aims to concentrate in their dissertation. 32
