NEWS FROM COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS U.S.A.C.E. It has been signed the letter of understanding between Region Lazio and USACE that has the objective to share the experience matured in the field of coastal engineering with the participants to the BEACHMED-e Operation. Ing. Paolo Lupino has been invited from the USACE to introduce the BEACHMED-e Operation during the Fact Finding Meeting organized in Den Haag (Holland) on June the 23rd.
NEWS FROM COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS PAP/RAC MALTA July 2 nd & 3 rd - The Regional Workshop to Discuss and Adopt the Good Practices Guidelines on Beach Management in the Mediterranean organized by PAP/RAC. A draft set of beach management guidelines has been developed and presented. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING - The results of the BEACHMED-e project will be integrated into the final document, currently in progress by taking into account the workshop contributions. This sharing come from the agreement signed between PAP/RAC and BEACHMED-e Operation (Memorandum of Understanding) BEACHMED-e Genova Conference is one of the events foreseen by the Coast-Day promoted by PAP-RAC. The Fisheries Research Institute - National Agricultural Research Foundation partner leader of ICZM-MED Subproject organizes a symbolic cleaning coast activity with Greek local schools.
NEW CONTACTS FROM THE NETWORK C.R.P.M. Conférence des Régions Périphériques Maritimes 16 octobre 2007, Firenze Meeting of the Intermediterranean Commission's Maritime Policy Group of CRPM Lazio and Emilia-Romagna Regions, represented by the responsibles of BEACHMED-e, participated to the reunion of the Marine Political Group-CRPM, whose agenda is the discussion and the validation of CRPM contribution to the Green Book on clime change. The BEACHMED-e Partnership, will participate to the activities of the Intermediterranean Commission with the realization of a list of the technical administrations operating in the coastal management (OBSEMEDI Subproject results). With this aim, Lazio Region has been engaged to accommodate the next Meeting of the Work group in Rome the next 1st February 2008.

Main Objectives and Expected Results : 1. identification of best practices across Europe related to the collection, classification and use of digital content for coastal zone protection 2. contributing to solve relevant interoperability bottlenecks in geographic digital data collections, through the harmonisation of data and metadata (I EN ISO ) 3. construction and deployment of a web based European coastal geoportal
18 partners - 4 million Proposal delivered
A proposal for a Regional Initiative Project in the E.U. program INTERREG IVC (2007 call) Priority 2 - Environment and risk prevention:natural and technological risks Submitted by the Regione Lazio (IT) and seconded by the RFO BEACHMED-e (Interreg IIIC-Zone South) partnership. With the preliminary agreement of the ESA (European Space Agency) as a scientific consultant COAST-SAT Erosion and Climate Change Risk Assessment by Regional Coastal Survey
Gestione Aree Marine Protette COASTAL DEFENCE : involved Administrations need data to estimate coastal erosion at a territorial scale for: 1. evaluation of coastline retreating trends (Risk assessment) 2. evaluation of sand nourishment needs (Risk prevention) Administrations need data for territorial plans
Gestione Aree Marine Protette COASTAL DEFENCE : aboutriskassessmentand Prevention Risk = Hazard x Land Value Hazard Levels Land Uses Risk Area There is not any ICZM without Risk Assessment
Gestione Aree Marine Protette Why COAST-SAT : many European projects are very broad and focused on the general aspects of coastal management
Gestione Aree Marine Protette Why COAST SAT : whilst many other are focused on series of local represantative situations or specific related topics.
Gestione Aree Marine Protette Why COAST-SAT : There is an evident gap between data gathering for communication purposes and data gathering for local or thematic purposes.. data gathering for planning purposes
Regione Lazio Italy Gestione Aree Marine Protette Main Objectives and Expected Results : 1. Methods for the erosion and climate change quantitative assessment 2. Achievement of a shared methodology to measure coastal risk phenomenon 3. Feasibility for the European Observatory seconded by the Charta of Bologna
