1 November 05, 2013 The Illinois Department of Human Services and the Springfield Urban League Community Health Training Center Invite you to attend the upcoming webcast: Celebrating African American Cultural Diversity in Breastfeeding December 3, :00 AM 12:00PM GOAL: This presentation will provide a global overview of breastfeeding initiation and duration in Illinois with an emphasis on the culture of the African American population. Impact of hospital practices, family and peers on breastfeeding will be identified. Practices to improve breastfeeding rates and communication about breastfeeding with others will be discussed. OBJECTIVES: Discuss African American breastfeeding cultural practices. Identify different approaches health care providers can use to promote and support breastfeeding AUDIENCE: WIC Staff & Breastfeeding Peer Counselors OB/Pediatric Nursing Staff Lactation Consultants Lactation Counselors Doulas Midwives Breastfeeding Advocates CONTINUING EDUCATION: Application for CERPs has been submitted to the International Board of Lactation Examiners. Application for contact hours for RNs has been submitted. Application for CPEs for RDs has been submitted. In order to receive continuing education credit for IBCLC, RN and RD, you must view the webcast and complete the required evaluation the day of the broadcast. This webcast meets a portion of the hourly requirement for CLC recertification. You will receive a certificate of completion.

Completion of an on-line evaluation is required to receive Certificate of Completion.** Meet The Speaker Jo Ann Allen, MSN, IBCLC BSN from Loyola University of Chicago, 1978 MSN Lewis University, 2001 Jo Ann has thirty five years of experience in maternal and child health. She currently works as a Clinical Instructor for the University of Illinois Chicago, College of Nursing in Women s Health. She is also a Staff Nurse at University of Chicago in the Woman s Care Center. Jo Ann s professional experience includes: Research Specialist in UIC College of Nursing on Preterm Labor and H-Hope projects; as well as clinical nursing experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Antepartum, Pediatric Emergency Room and Outpatient Departments. Jo Ann has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for the past 20 years. 3 Viewing IDHS Webcasts Because the webcasts are viewed by accessing the Internet, please review the information below prior to the webcast date. This link, link to test, will allow your agency to test viewing capability. It is recommended that your agency s Information System staff be consulted regarding your ability to participate in webcasts. 1. How does a webcast differ from a satellite broadcast? Staff will be able to view the webcast from their own workstation if a high speed internet connection and sound are available. In order to impact the agency s Internet and server functionality in the smallest manner, it is recommended that viewers watch in a group setting as has historically been done with the satellite broadcasts. The requirement to view the webcast on the same equipment that has been used for satellite viewing is that it must be connected to a computer that has a high speed internet connection and have sound capability. Your agency s information technology staff should be utilized to determine connectivity as well as the most appropriate viewing situation. 2. What software needs to be available to view the presentation? Each machine that is used to view the web cast will need to have Windows Media Player installed. Speakers or head phones will be needed for the audio portion of the web cast. 3. How will the live question and answer sessions work? Not all webcasts contain live question and answer segments. Information found on the flyer for each broadcast, will note whether the webcast will have a live question and answer session. Webcasts are not viewed in real time as are satellite broadcasts and regular television programming. There is a small delay in what is going on in the studio compared to what the audience is seeing. The delay will not be apparent until the live question and answer sessions begins. When staff at your location are calling in, we ask that while they are asking their question, they listen to the broadcast in the phone only and not the television or speakers at the site, and that they not try to view the presentation while asking their question. Phone access will remain in synch with the broadcast and will provide the best means of interaction. The use of to send and receive questions is also being considered. If becomes an option, the address will be posted during the presentation for the audience to see. 4. Will the webcast be available for viewing after the original date? The link used to watch the broadcast will remain available indefinitely. DVD or VHS copies will be available after the fiscal year ends from the Training Center Library. 5. Will viewers need to register for the presentation? Yes. Viewers will need to register in order to receive the link to view the broadcast and a link needed to access the appropriate on-line evaluation.

4 Accessing Training Materials Each viewer is responsible for printing their own handouts. INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRINTING HANDOUTS At the CHTC web site, CHT website link, you will find information about how to register for classes, future training schedules, and materials for webcast presentations. To access the webcast materials, click Distance Learning found near the top of the home page. The Distance Learning page will appear with information pertaining to the next webcast found under Next Event. All of the handouts for the upcoming webcast are available. Information, including handouts, for previous webcasts and satellite presentations, can be accessed by selecting the Past Satellite Teleconference Handouts and Videos link at the bottom of the page. Select a date and a list of handouts for the selected presentation will appear. Select an item (handout) and Adobe Acrobat Reader will appear in your browser with the requested information. From your browser menu, choose File, then Print. From this point, the printing process will function as it does for any other document. Each presentation may consist of multiple handouts. Please note that in order to have a complete set of handouts for the telecast, you will have to select and print each item listed. If necessary, click the Back button from the browser menu bar; repeat this process as needed to print all available documents.
