5 ACHIEVE Nutrition Sub-Committee Initial Meeting (Aug, 2012) Focus: New School Lunch Guidelines and Requirements and how the school district will meet them as well as the financial impact of implementation. Follow-up Meeting (Dec, 2012) Goal: Improving School Guidelines and Requirements by October 1, 2012 was accomplished and the sample menu submitted to the state was accepted. Recommendations/Suggestions: Provide additional recipe suggestions/resources. Use the reverse side of the menu to promote new menu items. Coordinate new recipes with Shop Rite Initiate an active sampling program Consider having a student advisory board to champion new school lunch foods and initiatives Consider having a School Lunch Information night for parents Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences Meets with ACHIEVE Mentors 5

10 Mission Assure that all City of Bridgeport residents have access to affordable, nutritious, culturally appropriate, and locally grown food. To promote environmental and policy changes that support behavior change at the community level that empower and encourage local retailers and institutions to source healthy food.
