4 Powahay District Connecticut Yankee Council BSA Webelos Activity Badge College Saturday, November 15, :30 AM to 12:30 PM Rogers International School, 202 Blachley Rd, Stamford, CT WANTED: Boy Scout Instructors Artist Communicator Forester Readyman Scientist Dear Boy Scout Leaders, Once again we would like to invite a team of older Boy Scouts from each of our troops to teach at the Webelos Activity Badge with at least one adult advisor. This has been a very successful and overbooked event each year. We re not looking for your entire troop, but just 3 to 5 boys and at least one adult. A great concept. While Webelos Scouts pass requirements at the activity badge college and get to know Boy Scouts as teachers and role models, the Boy Scouts gain experience planning, teaching classes, and dealing with younger boys who can sometimes present a challenge. This provides another opportunity for Webelos to get comfortable working with Boy Scouts and to get them excited about joining a troop. Troops that participate are welcome to set up a information table on their troop and talk to parents (in the parents lounge). Boy Scouts would NOT sign off Cub Scout Books and/or requirements but we would leave it to the Webelos Den Leader to feel confident that the requirements were taught properly. Each troop would bring an adult advisor to work with the Boy Scouts and to set up the class. Class sizes were large last year so we suggest that teams use rotation stations to teach the badge. Make the class fun and use the summer to plan. Activity Badge requirements can be Google and it may not be possible to pass all of the requirements at the Webelos College. A list of prerequisites to give out ahead of time would be appreciated. Badges to teach are on a first-volunteer-first serve basis. If you have a favorite, please let us know ASAP. Patch along with Pizza Lunch and a beverage provided. No charge for Instructors. Please consider this event as part of your Troop Program Planning. To Volunteer: John Hanks, Event Chairman, or johnwhanks@hotmail.com. Citizen Engineer Geologist Scholar Traveler

5 Proposal: A different spin to a traditional Klondike using a Computer/Video Game format and theme. Based on an actual computer game, Klondike Moon is set in the future, where player are space faring entrepreneurs who must grow a mining business on various moons to repay a loan extended by the moons' owner, MegaBucks Corp. Each moon is composed of different kinds of ore, which you must mine using futuristic vehicles called "Tick." You can process the ore to make either loan repayments (in the form of credits points) or construct other useful items such as defense installations, weapons***, or enhancements (to be determined) for your Ticks. Similar to the real world, you are not the only one who's trying to get ahead in the business. Other (Troop) Patrols will be competing against you. Your overall goal in the game is not to make money: you must race against other players to be the first one to pay off your loan, then discover and access the wormhole. Notes: 1. The above game theme is just a basic concept and description and can be modified for the Klondike. Ticks can be the Klondike Sled with different Moons representing stations. MegaBucks Corp will be District HQ. 2. Just like Video Games we will have different levels. Some ideas: Level 1: Earn as many credits as possible by going through the different Moons (stations). use credits (points) at MegaBucks Corp and to buy enhancements (to be determined) to be used in the next level. Level 2: The elimination round. More challenging Stations. Those that earn the required credits will move on to Level 3 to access the wormhole. Level 3: The top patrols would then compete in a few events to determine who accesses the wormhole (the top patrol). Big Prize: A big prize for the winning patrol and some secondary prizes. Prizes to be determined. 3. ***Any use of weapons would be against imaginary foes (not other patrols) or for a scoring event. 4. In addition to 3 top patrols, we would have overall top Troops (super Troops) recognition. We are looking for a host Troop. Other troops can share in the stations and planning. This is just a concept and alternative themes can be submitted. We would like to have host troop and theme in place before we break for the summer. John Hanks, District Activity Chair, johnwhanks@hotmail.com
