6 COMMUNITY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ELECTIVE RECOMMENDATIONS Issued: Summer/Fall 2014 Notes on course choices: All CBH students are required to take either BIOS 6603 (SAS) or BIOS 6604 (SPSS). This is a 1-credit companion lab for BIOS It should be taken concurrently with BIOS 6601 or later. BIOS 6604 (SPSS) covers a statistical software package (SPSS) that is a little more relevant to the CBH field, but SAS (covered in BIOS 6603) is also widely used, more so in Biostatistics than in CBH. We generally recommend 6604 for CBH students, but feel free to substitute All CBH students are required to take CBHS 6611 of as core course for CBH concentration. If students have taken CBHS 6610 Social Factors course (often done as a certificate student) which is the required core for non-cbh majors this can count as either as a CBH or general elective credit. Following are recommended elective courses for CBH students. CBH Electives: CBH students must take a minimum of 3 credits from the department. The following can be taken to meet this requirement. These courses can also be counted as as general elective credits. in Caribbean & Latin America 3 credits (CBHS 6632, Fall) CBHS Special Topic (CBHS 6670): If listed in course schedule contact instructor for details Field School-2 credits (1 st offered Fall, 2013) Poverty, Law-2 credits (1 st offered Fall, 2013) American Indian Field Experience 1 credit (Last offered Summer, 2012) Human Rights 3 credits (CBHS 6629, Spring-odd years) Survey Research 2 credits (CBHS 6620, offered Fall-odd years) Qualitative Research Methods - 3 credits (CBHS 6622, Fall Note: NOT offered in fall 2014) Intensive Study of Services in Cuba-3 credits (CBHS 6633, Spring; Permission from Instructor required) Latent Variable Analysis 3 credits (CBHS 7010, Fall; this is an advance data analysis class with prerequisites) Technology-Based Promotion 3 credits (CBHS 6628, Fall starting in 2014) Mental - 3 credits (CBHS 6630, Spring-odd years) CBH Advanced Seminar 3 credits (CBHS 7670, Spring).
