MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Abilene Independent School District is to provide exceptional educational opportunities in an environment that will produce graduates with the skills necessary to become productive, responsible citizens. BOARD GOALS One: Abilene ISD will develop a strong literacy and numeracy foundation for every student. Two: Abilene ISD will advance character development by nurturing habits of mind and ethical, principle-based leadership. Three: Abilene ISD will prepare all students for success in college and the workforce. Four: Abilene ISD will fully integrate student-led technology and develop innovative learning environments and facilities for the purpose of high student engagement, safety and academic success. Five: Abilene ISD will secure high quality, effective staff who embrace diversity, are reflective of and responsive to the district s student body, utilize best practices and understand the importance of student engagement, rigorous and relevant learning environments and the significance of connecting with students to foster a desire to learn. CORE BELIEFS All children can learn, but all children do not learn in the same way. All children learn best in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. All children learn best when they are active participants in the process. All children have immeasurable, inherent worth and thrive on positive recognition. All children should have access to excellent educational opportunities. The education of all children is the responsibility of the family, school district, and community.
Holland Medical Early College High School Program Holland Medical Early College High School is a unique, collaborative partnership between Hardin-Simmons University, a private, higher-education institution, with the Abilene Independent School District. Built on the northeast corner of the beautiful HSU campus in north Abilene, Holland Medical Early College High School is located near the largest medical community in West Texas, including the adjacent Hendrick Medical Center. In April of 2015, Holland received the TEA designation of Early College High School. 11th and 12th graders have the opportunity to take dual credit class at Cisco College or Hardin-Simmons University along with their Holland classes. Students can graduate from high school with up to 60 college credit hours. Holland opened its doors in 2007 in the pursuit of a mission to prepare quality healthcare workers to meet the needs of the Abilene community and beyond. Med High has helped attract record numbers into AISD s Health Science program. Since its first year, Holland has seen an approximately 120% growth in enrollment in upper-level health science courses. About 250 students from Cooper, Abilene High and ATEMS spend half of their school day in upper-class health science courses at Holland. When one adds the prerequisite introductory classes at the two main high schools, more than 500 students in AISD are enrolled in health science classes. The Holland teaching staff, including four Registered Nurses, one Certified Medical Technologist, and one Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer is preparing students in Certified Nurses Aide, Pharmacy Technician, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Dental Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician programs. Holland s faculty has helped students earn more than 700 industry-ready certifications. Numerous students are already working in local healthcare facilities and offices while participating in both paid and unpaid internships. In addition, students at Holland use state-of-the-art science equipment in Anatomy & Physiology classes and in Microbiology/Pathophysiology. Both AP and regular English II and III and US History classes are available to 10th and 11th graders in a course designed specifically for students interested in the medical profession. Whether students are looking to become physicians, nurses, dentists, or researchers - or simply looking to earn a certification that will lead to a part-time job as they continue their education - Holland Med High provides students a valuable launching pad. At Holland, we are Preparing healthcare professionals today for the medical workplace tomorrow.

Testing Calendar All standardized testing will take place at Abilene High School and Cooper High School, but Holland students daily schedule will possibly be altered when testing is taking place on the campuses. Health Sciences testing will take place on the Holland Campus. Dates TBD.
Expectations for Student Behavior While Attending Holland and HSU/Cisco Holland Medical Early College High School students are required to adhere to all regulations and policies of Hardin-Simmons University, Cisco College, and Abilene Independent School District and will be subject to disciplinary action taken by the high schools (Holland, Abilene High, or Cooper) and the college/university. Refer to AISD s Student Code of Conduct for behavior and disciplinary information. Academic Integrity Holland, HSU, and Cisco Expectations It is expected that Holland, HSU, and Cisco students demonstrate a high level of maturity, selfdirection and ability to manage their time/work responsibly. Students are viewed as individuals who possess the qualities of worth, dignity and the capacity for self-direction in personal behavior. More information can be found in the Student Codes of Conduct posted on the district website at: the college website at: and the university website at Guidance and Advising High school graduation requirements are listed in the Career ad College Planning Guide and addressed through guidance sessions with the Holland Director and district counselors. Students should monitor their progress to ensure they are meeting all requirements for graduation. Students meet yearly with their high school counselor and the Director at Holland to determine best options for the student. Holland and Dual Credit Currently juniors and seniors attending the Holland Medical Early College High School may be registered in college level classes at Hardin-Simmons University and Cisco College based upon the eligibility for college level enrollment. To prepare students for the rigors of college coursework, all core high school classes taught at Holland will be delivered at a college preparatory level. Holland Medical Early College High School students will have the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits through dual credit courses.
Eligibility for Dual Credit Juniors and Seniors Eligible to take dual credit courses, up to 15 credit hours per semester, based upon high school course performance and reasonability of class load. Must have an 80 or better GPA in core content area for the dual credit course you wish to take. Must meet required passing scores on the TSI, ACT, SAT, etc, determined by the college or university. Must meet required prerequisites for some university courses. Must attend required orientations. Courses must be approved by the Director at Holland. Director at Holland will review student records to ensure student has achieved grades of 80 or higher in core content area to be eligible for dual credit in those areas. Students must remain in good standing at the college or university to continue in dual credit courses. Students will meet with the Director at Holland and a college advisor at least twice a semester to review progress and determine future dual credit course placement. A course cannot be dropped by a student until he/she has spoken with the Director at Holland. The college or university s procedures will be followed when dropping a course. Campus Grading, Attendance, Discipline and Incomplete Work Policies Holland will follow the same policies as Abilene High School and Cooper High School. Holland students are currently enrolled at one of those campuses. AISD procedures are followed at all high school campuses. Dual Credit Attendance and Grading Policies Grading and attendance policies for the college classes are determined the college or university and NOT by AISD. Dual credit grades are not included in a student s high school GPA. Dual credit courses will become a part of a transcript from the university or college. An official college transcript will only be released by the college or university upon receipt of a final high school transcript indicating high school graduation. Sharing Data Abilene ISD, Hardin-Simmons University, and Cisco College work as partners in sharing data regarding student performance, behavior, etc. in order to assess progress of individual students and the program as a whole. Parents and students are asked annually to sign an agreement to share information as a condition of participating in the Holland Medical Early College High School and in accordance with the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Parking At Holland students must park in the parking lot behind Holland on Vogel Street. Students do not need an HSU parking permit. Students can use their home campus parking permit in the designated parking lot. If students are parked in a lot not designated for Holland students, they can be ticketed by HSU. Students taking dual credit classes at Cisco need to have their home campus parking permit. Cell Phone Policy During class student cell phones must be put away unless given permission by the teacher to use it for educational purposes. The same consequences will be used at Holland as are used at Abilene High and Cooper when student use cell phone inappropriately during the school day.
