1 Made by the Academic Board of Monash University Version incorporating amendments as at 12 July Degrees 1.1 The degrees listed in Schedule 1 may be undertaken in the faculty pursuant to these regulations Interpretations In these regulations, unless the contrary intention appears associate dean (education) means an associate dean (education) of the faculty; candidate means a candidate for a degree; course of study means the course of study for a degree determined by the faculty board under these regulations; dean means the dean of the faculty; degree means a degree of the faculty listed in schedule 1; double degree means a degree undertaken concurrently with another degree of any faculty in accordance with section 9; faculty means the Faculty of Education; faculty board means the faculty board of the faculty; faculty information handout means a faculty handbook or such other publication concerning a course of study, whether bound or loose leaf or on-line or in other electronic form, as the faculty board determines from time to time. 3. Course of study 3.1 A course of study comprises the subjects determined by the faculty board under this section. 3.2 Subject to these regulations, the faculty board may from time to time, with the approval of the Academic Board, determine the subjects comprising the course of study for a degree and may in relation to the subjects determine any matter including but not limited to requirements concerning number, timing, content and duration;

Credit teaching placements; attendance and participation; credit points; assessment; and satisfactory completion. 3.3 The faculty board may determine special requirements in relation to the course of study for a degree undertaken pursuant to these regulations concurrently with the course of study for another degree. 3.4 The faculty board must cause any determination under this section to be published in a faculty information handout. 3.5 Except where the dean in any particular case otherwise determines, a candidate in any year of a course of study may only undertake the units determined by the faculty board for that particular year. A candidate granted credit towards a degree must complete the course of study in the time specified by the faculty board. 5. Mode of Candidature 5.1 Except as otherwise provided in these regulations, candidature for a degree must be continuous; and must be full-time or, with the approval of the dean, part-time. 5.2 A course of study undertaken by an international student at an Australian campus must be undertaken by full-time candidature. 6. Time limits Except as otherwise provided in these regulations or as otherwise determined by the faculty board in any particular case, a candidate for a degree double degree, must complete the course of study for the one or both degrees (as the case requires) in a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 10 years; or in the case of the degree of Bachelor of Adult Learning and Development, Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies or Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation, a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 8 years; or the degree of Bachelor of Education (Honours), a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 4 years. Intermission The dean may, from time to time and subject to any conditions specified, grant a candidate leave of absence, but for no more than 12 months in total, unless the dean in any particular case otherwise determines. 8. Single units 8.1 The faculty board, on the recommendation of an associate dean (education) of the faculty, may permit a person who is not a candidate to enrol for one or more units in a course of study. 8.2 A person who satisfactorily completes a unit pursuant to subsection 8.1 and is subsequently admitted to candidature for the relevant degree, must be given credit for that unit. 9. Double degrees A candidate may with the consent of the faculty board, undertake concurrently any two degrees of this faculty which are specified together in part A of Schedule 2; or with the consent of the faculty board of this faculty and of the other faculty concerned, undertake a degree of this faculty specified in part B of Schedule 2 concurrently with the degree or one of the degrees of another faculty specified in that part in relation to the particular degree of this faculty. 10. Reversion to one degree 11. Award 10.1 A candidate undertaking a double degree with the degree of Bachelor of Education (Primary) or Bachelor of Education (Secondary) pursuant to these regulations may, with the consent of the faculty board, transfer to candidature for the degree of Bachelor of Primary Education or Bachelor of Secondary Education Where a candidate transfers from a double degree to one degree only, the faculty board must specify the work required to be completed by the candidate to qualify for the award of the degree; and the time within which the work must be completed Subject to this section, a candidate who satisfactorily completes the course of study for a degree is qualified for the award of that degree A candidate for a double degree is not eligible for an award under these regulations until both degrees have been satisfactorily completed. Compliance Schedules Schedule 1 Degrees 12.1 Subject to this section, a candidate must comply with these regulations and the relevant course of study requirements determined by the faculty board under these regulations, as in force or published from time to time Where the faculty board considers that a candidate has, since first enrolling for a degree, been unreasonably adversely affected by any change in the regulations or course of study requirements, the faculty board must permit the candidate to qualify for the degree under the regulations or course of study requirements in force or published at sometime during candidature, provided the faculty board is satisfied that the work so required to be completed is equivalent in standard to that currently required to complete the course of study.
