1 Telephone Interpreting Service access User Guide

2 Welcome to the LanguageLine Solutions Tutorial. This tutorial demonstrates the three most common access methods to reach a qualified LLS interpreter. If you have any other requirements just contact our customer support on

3 You need to communicate with a Limited English Speaker, also known as an LES.

4 There are three possible situations: You receive a call from an LES (the client is not with you) You need to call an LES (the client is not with you) You are face to face with an LES

5 You receive a call from an LES (1 of 5) If possible, identify the caller's language. Put the Limited English Speaker on hold if you have conferencing facilities OR Find out the caller s number and tell them you will call back with an interpreter [the caller will usually expect this and will recognise the word interpreter ]

6 You receive a call from an LES (2 of 5) Dial Press 1 for Telephone Interpreting

7 You receive a call from an LES (3 of 5) Firstly, tell the agent your Access/ID code. Secondly, confirm your organisation name. Thirdly, confirm your personal details. Fourthly, tell the agent the language you need an interpreter for.

8 You receive a call from an LES (4 of 5) After a brief hold the interpreter will be connected, & will give you their ID code. The interpreter will establish if you need a dialout (i.e. if you need LLS to conference the call) & you will give the LES number if you do not have conferencing facilities. Brief the interpreter what you wish to accomplish on the call.

9 You receive a call from an LES (5 of 5) Now conference in the LES or wait for the operator to make the connection, and, working with the interpreter, you can now talk with your LES.

10 You need to call an LES (1 of 4) Dial Press 1 for Telephone Interpreting

11 You need to call an LES (2 of 4) Firstly, tell the agent your Access/ID code. Secondly, confirm your organisation name. Thirdly, confirm your personal details. Fourthly, tell the agent the language you need an interpreter for.

12 You need to call an LES (3 of 4) After a brief hold the interpreter will be connected & will give you their ID code. The interpreter will establish if you need a dial-out (i.e. if you need LLS to conference the call) & you will give the LES number. Brief the interpreter what you wish to accomplish on the call.

13 You need to call an LES (4 of 4) Now conference in the LES or wait for the connection, and, working with the interpreter, you can now talk with your LES.

Brief the interpreter what you wish to accomplish on the call.

17 You are face to face with an LES (4 of 4) Working with the interpreter you can now talk with your LES. You can either use the dual handset LanguageLine phone or speakerphone, or pass your handset back and forth.
