3 Workflow What is a workflow? Workflows enable you to model real-life business processes, for example best practices or standard practices, in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. They can be as simple or as complex as necessary to meet your business process requirements. Workflows can be configured to run in the background or in real time. They can start automatically based on specified conditions, or can be started manually by a user.
4 Workflow Background vs. Real Time Real time workflows execute within their triggering transaction, where background workflows are scheduled to run when system resources are available Background workflows support wait and timeout conditions Real time workflows can present error messages to the user
5 Workflow Triggering Actions Record creation Record status changes Record is assigned Record is deleted Record fields change
6 Workflow Workflow Scope User: Workflow will exclusively run on records with the same owner as the Workflow. Business Unit: Workflow will exclusively run on records owned by any user in the same Business Unit as the owner of the Workflow. Parent: Child Business Units: Workflow will exclusively run on records owned by any user in the same Business Unit or Organization: Workflow will run on records owned by any user.
