11 MBA & Masters 11 ESERP Background Josep Segura Bayarri History of ESERP from 1881 to the present The educational vocation of ESERP dates back to 1881 in the city of Barcelona. Its earliest beginnings are found in the school which was then known as Colegio San José and its founder, the professor Josep Segura Bayarri, who was a teacher with great pedagogical and scientific rigour. From the hand of its founder, the School evolved generation after generation, always directed by the same family, with a great tradition based on the teaching vocation, a saga of professors, teachers and pedagogues of recognised prestige which, during six generations and after 130 years up to the present has taught more than 20,000 alumni. This leads us to ask the question; When did the change from school to higher education first occur? To answer this question we must go back to the 20th century, to the year 1950, when the Public Administration authorised that students were able to study the higher education of Commerce and Trade Expertise and later that of Professor of Trade and Commerce, with these moments being the birth of what would later become the School of Business and Social Science ESERP in Barcelona and Madrid in the year Its first Presidents were eminent professors and researchers, the Spaniard José Luis Barquero Garcés, the Englishman Sam Black and the North-American Edward L. Bernays Freud. Creation of the first institution The San José School was developed in 1881, at an important time for Barcelona. The same year Carlos and Bartolomé Godo founded the La Vanguardia newspaper, which celebrated its 130th anniversary in the year But it would be in 1883 when the first graduation of registered students by the founder Josep Segura Bayarri was to take place in the city of Barcelona, Ronda de San Pablo number 29. Five years later and coinciding with the Universal Exposition of Barcelona, joined with the reputation and good work of Josep Segura Bayarri, the school moved to the newly constructed neighbouring building and in this way converting itself into a school for future graduates. It would be from the year 1908 when it began to be known by the name of L Antic Col.legi Sant Josep. The scientific work of research together with scientifically tested pedagogical models and tangible results allowed the work to near perfection, thanks to the educational framework selected by Josep Segura Bayarri, who only lived because of and for teaching. Celebration of the centenary With the motive of commemorative acts of the Centenary a retrospective exposition of memories, photographs, diplomas, books, prints, drawings and other items was held from the 9th to the 14th of May, On the 12th of this same month a conference took place, overseen by Sr. Prof, Don Antonio Goixens i Duch, permanent member of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain and Professor of the Higher Education School of Mercantile and Business Studies of Barcelona. On the 15th the graves of the professors Josep Segura Bayarri and Joan Verge were visited and floral acts and prayers were held together with a solemn Mass of thanks. The commemorative plaque can be seen in the new installations of Ronda San Pablo. The Pro-centenary Commission This Commission was carried out by the professors Maria Angeles Verge Aldana, Josep Surroca i Fernández, Francesc Soriano i Sanchos, Juan Prats i Lario, Carlos Salazar i Muros, Antonio Gilabert Corbalan, Manuel Ribes Martinez, Enric Vicente i Sarradell, Maria Roig, Magdalena Mas i Lopez and Antonio Cabrero, amongst others.
