Continued investment in in-house capabilities include people and services. Vodafone also has improved SLAs when insourcing the largest customers. Vodafone continues the evolution and enhancement of its professional/advisory services, and has had success with vertically focused workforce management solutions in the public sector and logistics. Use of Project Spring investment has expanded capability in APAC, the U.S., and Africa and has extended UC footprint. Mobile application strategy covers application lifecycle management, vertical and horizontal apps through partnerships, and in-house or third-party bespoke applications. Vodafone is further developing its industry-leading Vodafone Telecom Management service, embedding it as a strategic part of its total communications service propositions and adding new capabilities. Competitive Weaknesses Competitors with fixed and mobile networks still have some advantage in end-to-end network outsourcing and converged offerings while Vodafone is playing catch-up through MPLS build-out and fixed line service integration. Competitive roaming tariffs (e.g., from FreeMove partners Orange and DT) and global M2M alliances are extending competitive footprints to go after Vodafone. While significant progress has already been made, full integration of fixed line access and services and global consistency for these offerings remains a long, complex process. 2 Current Perspective: Leader Enterprise s (VGE) managed mobility portfolio is a leader in the global managed mobility services (MMS) market, with comprehensive offers that provide MNCs with multicarrier fixed and mobile expense management, logistics for central ordering, mobile device management, and services for mobile threat management and other security measures across mobile and fixed networks. The VGE vision is to empower customers to work the way they want, work on any device, stay secure and protected, and stay connected to their business. While some managed mobility and IT (MMIT) services were initially rolled out to enterprises by Vodafone s operating companies, they are increasingly available as global solutions that can be sold through VGE to its MNC base. For example, Vodafone has launched new tablets in all markets, including Vodafone-branded tablets. The AirWatchpowered MDM/security service, Vodafone Secure Device Manager, is in 15 markets; this is complementary to Vodafone Device Manager, offered by VGE and powered by MobileIron. Vodafone Connectivity Manager for Windows 8 was launched globally, and Vodafone provides cloud services through Office 365 (which can be remotely managed through its device management platforms) in 15 markets. Launched in 2013, Vodafone Red for Global Enterprise provides compelling and affordable unlimited voice plans with different usage levels for global data roaming. Vodafone also offers Good and BES12 as part of its EMM portfolio. Vodafone has also expanded its abilities in mobile applications, offering application lifecycle management through its MDM platforms, vertical and horizontal applications through partnerships (as well as Office 365 and other collaboration apps), and bespoke applications through in-house development or via third parties. VGE has fortified its mobile IT services as well as its TEM and UC offerings with professional services. VGE offers advisory services such as policy management, workplace studies, and design of end-user support models. On the security, visibility, and control front, it offers device selection and management, the Vodafone Mobile Threat Manager service with partner BAE Applied Intelligence and fixed security assessments and consulting, and Vodafone Profile Manager (a container-based solution that provides a secure, separate business partition on employee-owned devices). To help customers with their BYOD strategies, Vodafone offers user profiling. It also provides managed migrations between mobile platforms (such as BlackBerry to Android/iOS). For core TEM and logistics services, the Vodafone Telecommunications Management (VTM) platform offers an integrated lifecycle management approach to fixed and mobile expenses (as well as voice, data, and conferencing), with a common database for cost allocation and vendor management, which can also be integrated into customers own general ledger applications. VTM includes an administrative portal for IT managers, as well as a self-service portal for end users, which allows them to order plans and devices from a central ordering catalogue according to their department and user profile. VTM includes a managed service for order requests, provisioning, inventory contracts, billing, audits, optimization, dispute management, and business intelligence reporting, and Vodafone has developed a VTM service to support its Vodafone Red tariffs. Vodafone has also launched an entry-level ( Lite Touch ) VTM service which provides inventory and cost center-based visibility. Vodafone has already done much of the work to integrate the former CWW s products, people, operations, and services into its portfolio in order to offer a full set of wireline and converged managed network services. VGE provides UCC services for MNCs, with UCaaS based on the Cisco HCS platform sold to large enterprises and MNCs. In addition, VGE offers UCC professional services to help with business transformation and strategic change discussions and provide design and implementation services. Enterprise has unique capabilities due to the large footprint of Vodafone Group, with mobile network interests in more than 30 countries and partner/affiliate networks in over 50 countries. 3 accounts to 1,700 companies and it has been growing its sales force, investing in its dedicated UC and TEM groups, and enhancing its professional services. Continued evolution and enhancement of professional services/advisory services and success with vertically focused workforce management solutions in the public sector and logistics have added depth to Vodafone enterprise engagements. Use of Project Spring investment to scale capability in APAC, the U.S., and Africa as well as extend UC footprint will provide not only global reach, but also a more consistent services set for fixed and mobile services in all geographies. Vodafone s mobile application strategy covers application lifecycle management through MDM and enterprise app stores; vertical and horizontal apps through partnerships (including WFM & health); and horizontal applications including Microsoft Office365 and UCC apps. Custom and bespoke application development is provided through inhouse application development teams (VSS and Bluefish) or via third parties. Vodafone is further developing its Vodafone Telecom Management service, embedding it as a strategic part of its total communications service propositions and adding new capabilities. It is adding a Business Intelligence presentation layer and is aligning expertise across VGE solutions teams, such as combining VTM data analysis expertise with Bluefish Consulting. Weaknesses Vodafone competitors are not standing still. While competitors with both fixed and mobile networks still have a natural advantage in offering end-to-end network outsourcing and converged offerings, all competitors are also squarely focused on offering advanced managed mobility services as well as other strategic offers such as UC, M2M, mobile security, and advisory and integration services. While Vodafone s mobile footprint is very extensive, roaming tariffs (e.g., from FreeMove partners) and global M2M alliances (such as the Telefonicaled Jasper partners alliance and the DT/Orange/TeliaSonera alliance for M2M) are pointedly going after Vodafone with enlarged footprints through alliances and aggressive preferential roaming rates. While significant progress has already been made, full integration of fixed line access and core services still may be a long, complex process. A danger for Vodafone is that it may be trying to do too much at once, including: fixed line expansion, the many investments from Project Spring, major network upgrades and convergence, a sales and delivery overhaul, harmonization of core products, and significant international growth in new geographies. 4 Core Service Features Mobile Device Management Vodafone Secure Device Manager (VSDM) is an AirWatch-powered platform, available as a cloud-based or premises-based solution, which has being rolled out by many Vodafone operating companies. A MobileIronpowered platform is also available to MNCs. Both provide remote management of smartphones/tablets (ios, Android, Windows Phone in progress) across any network. Vodafone also provides Good and BES12 to enterprise customers. Security Vodafone is launching a significantly enhanced security portfolio with solutions for secure device, authentication, secure transit, and secure enterprise (for data at rest behind the corporate perimeter). Already launched are: the Vodafone Mobile Threat Manager service with partner BAE Systems, mobile and fixed security assessments and consulting, and Vodafone Profile Manager (a container-based solution that provides a secure, separate business partition on employee-owned devices). Inventory and Expense Management Vodafone Invoice Manager is a secure, web-based portal with a single global statement, where customers view, interrogate, and pay for all mobile services across all carriers in one or multiple transactions in currency of their choice. Vodafone Spend Manager is a web-based analysis and reporting tool that provides a global view of the total cost of ownership of mobile communications. The Central Ordering catalogue is used for self-provisioning of devices/plans. Vodafone Telecoms Management (VTM) is a more sophisticated tool for managing fixed and mobile expenses, cost allocation, and vendor management with IT and end-user portals. Application Enablement Vodafone is offering application management and enterprise app store enablement through both of its MDM platforms; it also provides cloud-based Office365 that can be remotely managed via MDM. Vodafone also provides vertical and horizontal apps including bespoke applications through in-house development or through partners.. Value-Added Services Consulting and Prof. Services VGE has fortified its managed mobility and IT (MMIT) services with significant resources for professional services, services operations, innovation, solutions architects, and TEM specialists. VGE offers advisory services such as policy management, workplace studies, security assessments, and design of end-user support models. VGE also offers mobile security assessments and UCC professional services including business transformation and strategic change consulting as well as design and implementation services. It also offers user profiling for BYOD and managed migrations for operating system changes (such as BlackBerry to ios/android). Portal Integration VTM has integrated portals for contract management, invoices, spend management, and ordering. 5 Other Service Elements Availability Vodafone has the largest mobility footprint of any European-based telecom provider, with its own mobile assets in 30 countries and partners and affiliates in an additional 50 countries. Partnerships include key providers in Asia-Pacific, including a strategic partnership with China Mobile. It also provides standardized SLAs for 14 different parameters.
