It is important for children to have the chance to develop their faith. Sunday morning CCD classes will begin next Sunday, September 8, so don t delay! Advance registration continues at the parish office this week. Fill out forms in person or bring them back. Call Mission Statement: Queen of Angels is a Christian Community joined in one Catholic Faith and nourished by the same sacramental life. We celebrate the diversity of our people united through our spiritual life, sharing of faith and knowledge, enjoyment of one another, the concern for human needs and the stewardship of all we have. We undertake this challenge as Disciples of Jesus guided by His word and strengthened by His love.

If you are comfortable with a computer, I encourage you to complete the survey online. Paper copies are available in the back of church. If you are completing a paper copy, please return it to the basket in the back of the church or to the parish office by Sunday, September 23. The online survey is available until Sunday, September 30. The survey should take about 20 to 30 minutes. Parish Transformation Survey in English: Parish Transformation Survey in Spanish: There is a link to the survey on our parish website, parish.queenofangelschicago.org. In addition to taking the survey, please consider joining the Parish Transformation Team. Call me at the parish office to express your interest, and to mark your calendar for our kick-off meeting for Parish Transformation at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 at the Parish Center, 4412 N. Western. Monsignor Jim Kaczorowski, Pastor COLLECTION ENDS TOMORROW! Target, Kmart, Walmart and most drugstores all have travel sections where small toiletries are available. The Society of St. Vincent depaul has a collection box in the gathering space of Church for your donations through Labor Day. Your thoughtfulness will help provide the needed toiletries for some of the 40,000 showers provided by the Chicago mission each year! Please bring your donations to church no later than 10 a.m. Mass on Labor Day. Thank you! HELP THE 8 TH GRADE CLEAN UP AT THE CAR AND BICYCLE WASH The Eighth Grade students from our parish school will begin fundraising efforts for their end-of-the-year class trip with a Car and Bicycle Wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, in the parking lot at the corner of Western & Sunnyside. There will be a $10 suggested donation for washing cars, and a $5 suggested donation for washing bikes. Please consider bringing your dirty bicycle or vehicle (complete with vacation bug splatter) to the event in support of our enterprising students. Blake, we ll always love you Though fighting as hard as any superhero, nine-year-old parishioner Blake Resendiz died last week following a seven-year battle with leukemia. Whether you attended the funeral Mass for Blake, offered prayers, brought food or decorations to the reception or wake, made Superman capes, picked up helium balloons, set up, fed attendees, or cleaned up when it was over thank you. Some of us knew Blake and his family well, some of us knew them only by name at church; yet all took time to support this grieving family. Though our hearts ache for what this family is now going through, it was heartwarming to see so many people in our parish come together to care for the Resendiz Family. Through Blake s short life, people had the opportunity to live the Gospel. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. Planning a wedding feast or banquet? Consider offering the cost of one plate to the Society of St. Vincent depaul so that the poor can have a seat at your banquet table. VENITE SEORSUM: COME AWAY AND REST IN JESUS What would you say to Jesus if he was right in front of you? Say it in Eucharistic Adoration. God is real. God is present. God is fully present in the most Blessed Sacrament. Queen of Angels offers Eucharistic Adoration in order to deepen our family s life of prayer through the source and summit of our faith. Exposition is now 9 to 10 a.m. on the main altar every Friday after the morning weekday Mass. Though many have come to adore our Lord Jesus throughout the days on Fridays, the challenge of scheduling a consistent presence of adorers inspired this new opportunity. At least two adorers must still be present. To sign up for this parish Holy Hour, please contact Jessica or John Smith by at john.avemaria@gmail.com or by phone at God gives a home to the forsaken Psalm 68:7a ONE NATION ONE FAMILY ONE DREAM Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I invites people to join him for One Nation One Family One Dream, A Concert for the Journey, featuring the City Lights Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Monday, September 30 at Holy Family Church, 1080 W. 5 September 1, 2013 Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Five GIVECENTRAL PLACES EMPHASIS ON THE WORK OF GOD Sign up for GiveCentral and know that your donation to Queen of Angels makes it to church whether or not you do. The work of God s house continues just as mortgages and rents must still be paid as the cost of utilities creeps up. We rely on our parishioners to help us keep the entire parish property in shape. GiveCentral.org encourages us to give scripturally. Too often we pay our other bills, shop, entertain and at the very last, give what is left to the Church. With GiveCentral.org the very first donation can go to Queen of Angels, helping the parish and helping us move closer to living the Gospel. It is time to give serious consideration to GiveCentral, the electronic giving program for the Archdiocese of Chicago. GiveCentral.org is a secure online system where parishioners can create individual giving profiles with payment options ranging from direct debit (ACH) to credit cards, and give one-time or repeatedly. By giving electronically, you save Queen of Angels time and money. And you save yourself the need to locate your envelopes, write out a check and hope you remember to bring the envelope with you to church. GiveCentral.org makes it easier to budget knowing what funds will be available at any given time. This helps us avoid paying late fees on our parish bills and meet our own deadlines. Click the Donate Now button at parish.queenofangelschicago.org. If you need assistance, call Tom at the Parish Center at SCOUTER REUNION AND POTLUCK Come one, come all to the annual Scouter Reunion and Potluck Dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 in the Lower Church. Invited are all former and current Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leaders, parents and Scouts. On the agenda, in addition to the food, are ceremonies, songs, skits, crafts, sharing of memories and good, old-fashioned camaraderie. There will also be a brief memorial service for all of our deceased Scouters. Uniforms are in order, and you can wear all of the medals that you have earned. Charlie Marino will be the guest speaker, who together with his wife was instrumental in founding the Ronald McDonald House at Children s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. It s a fascinating story! The church is handicapped-accessible and free parking can be found in the parking lot at the corner of Westen & Sunnyside as well as on both sides of Western Avenue south of Sunnyside. Please make reservations with Maria Bappert at and let her know what dish you will bring. Members of the Society of St. Vincent depaul and the new St. Vincent depaul Youth Group gathered to distribute school supplies to 108 young people, up from 70 last year. As seen below, the workers are putting final items in place before they meet the young recipients. SSVD AND YOUTH AID 108 STUDENTS Queen of Angels donations were up this year and extra supplies were donated from St. Pascal. These combined efforts made it possible for neighborhood young people to get their supplies in readiness for the new school year. Save the date! September s youth group activity will be participation in the St. Vincent DePaul Friends of the Poor 5K Run/Walk. All are invited to walk a mile in my shoes. The walk will take place along the lakefront near Lincoln Park Zoo on Saturday, September 28. Youth can register by to qa.svdp.youth@gmail.com. Parishioner adults may register online via bit.ly/11cq0q6. Any high school students who would like to join the youth group should call the parish at or qa.svdp.youth@gmail.com for opportunities to grow in friendship and spirituality while earning service hours for their schools. TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE TO HELP SPRED Queen of Angels SPRED program offers a respectful experience of faith formation for people with developmental disabilities. The program takes place in a beautiful meeting space within the context of small faith communities in one-on-one partnerships with the friends with special needs. Over the years SPRED here has relied on the financial generosity of our parishioners at Queen of Angels through our Holiday Nut Sale. This year we will not offer the nut sale because of the rise of cost, but we will focus solely on the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll drive this September We ask for your help and support in this effort through your own contributions, but also by considering the donation of a little of your time to help with the drive. It's simple and fun. To sign up or for more information, contact Julie Hess at or julia.spredcrw@sbcglobal.net. The Three SPRED Communities of Queen of Angels Are you new to our parish community? Welcome! Have you recently moved? May God bless your new home! Please visit or contact the parish office at or parish@queenofangelschicago.org to introduce yourself, register or adjust your existing registration. Thank you!

6 Page Six Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 1, 2013 TRANSFORMACIÓN PARROQUIAL ENCUESTA DE TRANSFORMACIÓN PARROQUIAL: HAGA OÍR SU VOZ! Gracias!
