New Mexico State won 3-1 by scores of 28-30, 25-16, and Ashley Andrade led the Shockers with 12 kills, while Chelsey Feekin had 47 assists and Jackie Church had 15 digs. Scouting Texas A&M The Aggies are 1-1 after the opening weekend of play with a three-set loss to No. 2 Stanford and a five-set win over Minnesota. As a team, A&M is hitting.197, while opponents are hitting.254. They are led by Angela Lowak who is averaging 3.80 kills per set and hitting.389. The Aggies are led by head coach Laurie Corbelli. Lehman Named Valley Player of the Week Wichita State volleyball student-athlete Abbie Lehman has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the week of Aug Lehman, a sophomore middle blocker from Newton, Kan., led the Shockers to a 2-1 record at the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii over the weekend. She averaged 3.90 kills, 1.60 blocks and 4.85 points per set, while hitting.515 and was named to the all-tournament team. In the three-set win over 2014 NCAA Sweet 16 participant Oregon State, she had a match-high 12 kills on 21 swings and hit.476. She also added one assist, one dig and two blocks. In the four-set loss at No. 18 Hawaii, she had a career-high and team high 17 kills on 31 swings and hit.516. She also had one dig and a match-high eight blocks. In the three-set win over Idaho, she had a match-high 10 kills on 16 swings and hit.562 along with a match-high six blocks. It is the second MVC Player of the Week honor of her career. Shocks Receive Votes in August 31 AVCA Poll The Wichita State volleyball team is receiving votes in the August 31 AVCA Poll. The Shockers received 12 points in the poll after starting the 2015 season 2-1. WSU defeated Oregon State, who is also receiving votes, and Idaho and lost in four sets to No. 17 Hawaii. WSU next travels to College Station, Texas, Sept. 4-5, for the Texas A&M Invitational where they will face Abilene Christian, New Mexico State and Texas A&M, who is just outside the top-25 at No. 27. The Shockers open the season at home on Thurs., Sept. 10 against South Dakota State in the Shocker Volleyball Classic. WSU will also face Northern Illinois, No. 10 Kentucky, Texas State and No. 6 Illinois in the tournament. Lehman and Mostrom Named to All-Tourney Team Two Wichita State volleyball student-athletes were named to the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational all-tournament team. Sophomore middle blocker Abbie Lehman and junior libero Dani Mostrom were both named to the team and led the Shockers to a 2-1 record. Lehman, from Newton, Kan., averaged 3.90 kills and 1.60 blocks per set, while hitting.515 in the three matches. She had a career-high 17 kills on Aug. 29 against No. 18 Hawaii. Dudzinski Sparks Shockers Junior middle blocker Katy Dudzinski made her presence felt in her first extended action of the season on Aug. 30 against Idaho. She had a careerhigh seven kills on 11 swings with just one error for a career-best.545 hitting percentage. She also had a career-high three block assists. Shocker Debuts Two players made their Shocker debuts over the weekend for Wichita State. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Shimen Fayad averaged 2.80 kills, 0.40 aces, 1.90 digs and 0.20 blocks per set as a six-rotation player. Junior transfer Jody Larson averaged 2.10 kills, 0.20 aces, 2.80 digs and 1.00 block per set as a six-rotation player. Mostrom Passes 1,000 Digs Junior libero Dani Mostrom recorded her 1,000th career dig on Aug. 29 at No. 18 Hawaii. She now has 1,018 career digs and is the 17th Shocker in school history to collect 1,000 digs. Lehman Collects Career-High in Kills Sophomore middle blocker Abbie Lehman notched her career-high in kills on Aug. 29 at No. 18 Hawaii. She totaled a career-best 17 kills and also tied her career-high with 31 total attempts. In three matches, she averaged 3.90 kills and 1.60 blocks per set and hit.515. 3 Valley Announces Extension With ESPN ESPN and the Missouri Valley Conference have announced a 10-year extension to their current media rights agreement that will provide increased coverage of conference events across ESPN platforms through the academic year. As part of the deal which continues a business relationship that began in 1986 ESPN, the Missouri Valley Conference and its 10 member institutions will work jointly to develop in-house production capabilities at each campus that will provide significant national coverage for multiple sports on ESPN3 and hands-on educational opportunities for students. As a result, ESPN3 will showcase a minimum of 820 events a year (a minimum of 70 men s basketball) in the final six years of the agreement. In 2015, all Wichita State volleyball home matches and road Valley matches will be streamed on ESPN3. WSU Receives Votes in AVCA Poll The Wichita State volleyball team received votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, which was released Aug. 12. The Shockers received nine points in the poll. The Shockers open the season on the road Aug. 28, at the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, against Oregon State. WSU returns six starters and 12 letterwinners to a team that went in The Shockers will play five teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the preseason poll including Illinois (8th), Kentucky (15th), Hawaii (18th), Oregon State (RV) and Texas A&M (RV). Shocks Picked First in Preseason MVC Poll The Wichita State volleyball team is picked first in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Shockers received seven firstplace votes and 97 points in the poll. The Shockers return 12 letterwinners and six starters from a team that went in Lehman Named to Preseason All-Valley Team Sophomore middle blocker Abbie Lehman has been named to the preseason all-valley team. In 2014, she earned All-America and first team all- Valley honors and averaged 2.55 kills and 0.85 blocks per set, while hitting.382. Sisters Sisters Dani Mostrom and Gabi Mostrom are the fifth set of sisters to play volleyball at Wichita State. They are only the second set to play together at WSU joining Marsha and Pam Olmsted who played together for the Shockers in The other Shocker sisters include: Valerie and Kim Wadsworth, Jessica and Taylor Keys and Angie and Michele Hallagin. Six Starters Return The Shockers return six starters (Katie Reilly, Abbie Lehman, MaryAshton Floyd, Emily Hiebert, Jenny Whitledge, Mikaela Raudsepp) in 2014 from a team that went a year ago. WSU also returns libero Dani Mostrom. Television Schedule Announced Three Wichita State volleyball matches during the 2015 season will be televised on the Cox Channel Kansas. The three matches that will be televised are Oct. 17 against Loyola, Nov. 7 against UNI and Nov. 21 against Evansville. In addition, each match will appear live or tape delayed via Time Warner Sports Channel in Kansas City. Shocks Eighth Nationally in Attendance in 2014 WSU volleyball ranked in the top-10 nationally in attendance in The Shockers had a total attendance figure of 27,706 and averaged 3,078 fans per match, which was eighth nationally. 4 Lamb Returns for 16th Season Head coach Chris Lamb, four-time MVC Coach of the Year, returns for his 16th season after guiding the Shockers to 12-straight 20-win seasons. In 2011, he became the winningest coach in Shocker volleyball history and in 2013 he won his 300th career match. Valley Titles WSU has won five out of the last 11 MVC regular-season titles. The Shockers collected titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and Shocks on the Web All Wichita State volleyball matches will be broadcast on goshockers.com/ watch in WSU Hall of Famer Mike Kennedy will perform play-byplay duties for all of the matches. Fall Practice Schedule The Shockers will practice in the Aetna Multi-Purpose Center on Monday- Thursday from 1-4 p.m. On the day before a home match, the team will practice on Devlin Court. Shocks Earn AVCA Team Academic Award The Wichita State volleyball program has been named a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. WSU is one of 146 Division I programs to earn the award. The award, which was initiated in the academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. Recipients of the award range from NCAA Division I institutions to high school girls and boys teams. The Shockers had a team GPA of 3.46 last season Review The Shockers went in 2014 and 13-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Leading the Shockers was honorable mention All-American middle blocker Abbie Lehman and first team all-valley selection MaryAshton Floyd.
