7 TangMa Training Programmes for Cities of Tomorrow TangMa TPs (SUD & OWRE) are a capacity building effort. Its objective is to strengthen the ability of its participants to realise, through their daily work, the vision of future sustainable cities. Learning Programme for Cities of Tomorrow TangMa LP is a dissemination effort. Its objective is to enable key co-actors to contribute to the vision. We build today the cities of tomorrow

10 Benefits of TangMa Training to Caofeidian Ecocity Substantial capacity enhancement for Caofeidian s participants A heated interest on urban sustainability among not only participants but also their colleagues Comparative learning: trainees not only learned innovative sustainable principles and technologies from Sweden, but also dug out such ideas and practices from their daily life and work. An improved comprehensive understanding on sustainability: sustainability is not just about the physical fabrication of a city, but an integration of many layers, such as public involvement, economic resilience, social equality, and environmental sustainability. Learning from Malmö participants: more professional attitude toward their work. Increased Caofeidian s opportunity to be exposed to the sustainability world.

11 We rediscover our own city: New aspects, new understanding We learn how better to connect our own efforts with the efforts of our colleagues in other departments We are trained better to understand the perspectives of others We experience the necessity of focusing our efforts We facilitate interdepartmental cooperation within Malmö We are inspired to discuss and reflect differently about our own efforts, due to the contrasts between Sweden and China We are trained in explaining and challenging our ways of thought We find opportunities to initiate intra- as well as interdepartmental actions and projects We are brought off our beaten tracks and made to actively scrutinise our own organisational cultures and approaches Malmö Working Committee reflections on TangMa project benefits September, 2012
