Introduction This paper will briefly look into the new development that has been done within Onboard-NAPA as well as our SPS (Ship Performance Solutions) product lines since last User Meeting. It will also highlight the advantages that NAPA user organisations can have of including Onboard-NAPA to their deliveries compared to other loading computers on the market. 1.1 What are Onboard-NAPA and NAPA SPS? Onboard-NAPA is the market leader in loading, stability and damage stability computers for cruise liners in the world, and it is steadily increasing its market share in other ship types, especially tankers (oil, chemical and gas) as well as ro-ro ships and ferries. Onboard-NAPA is based on NAPA technology; the engineering user interface of NAPA has been merely changed for one more suitable for onboard officer use. NAPA SPS (Ship Performance Solutions) is a suite of products developed to manage, plan, simulate, and optimise the fuel consumption of a vessel or a fleet of ships. The products are based on NAPA hydrodynamic modelling capabilities (SHx modules) that allow the exact simulation of speed/power as well as propulsion characteristics. The development of the new products, the NAPA Electronic Logbook and NAPA Voyage Reporting, is continuing. The NAPA Electronic Logbook can be used instead of traditional logbooks onboard allowing for a more standardised and systematic approach to collecting ship data. 2. New and continuing development 2.1 NAPA Optifloat feature This is a feature to present and find the optimal floating position of a ship with displacement, speed and trim taken into account. The idea is to help the ship operator to monitor and adjust the floating position by comparing the current and the optimum conditions in a clearly understandable graphical presentation. The system is based on trim curves available from towing tank tests and it is offered to Onboard-NAPA customers as an add-on feature to the loading computer. When integrated with the loading computer, the operator can be assured that the trim recommendations given by the system can be achieved without endangering the ship s stability and longitudinal integrity.

2 2 Figure 1 NAPA Optifloat 2.2 Onboard-NAPA network installation There is a big need to have a true master/slave and real/simulation mode installation onboard all vessel types in the future. A solution of this is represented below. Currently, this is mainly needed for navy and Decision Support installations. 3 3 2.3 New updated NAPA Power NAPA Power has proven its place as the best speed optimizing system in the market for the cruise line and RoPax business especially for shorter voyages. The new development is focusing on the standard commercial vessels, the functionalities and user interfaces needed in such operational environment. The main new features include: - support for multiple simultaneously open voyage plans for more efficient planning and cost comparison - new intuitive graphical user interface - weather and sea current visualization with ship s time domain progress shown on each route - streamlined planning functionality to reduce workflow onboard - new straightforward monitoring view Figure 3 NAPA Power 2.4 NAPA Electronic Logbook and NAPA Voyage Reporting NAPA Electronic Logbook offers the traditional logbook functionality in a user-friendly computer format. The combination of common data storage, automation interfaces, reminders, guidelines and checklists prevent misuses and enable extensive reporting which has not been possible until now. Being accepted by many flag states; Panama, Bahamas, Sweden, Norway and Netherlands to mention a few, NAPA Electronic Logbook can be used to replace deck, engine and oil record logbooks. This means no duplicate work has to be done onboard the vessels.

4 4 NAPA Electronic Logbook content can also be synchronized to a central relational database which is open for any kind of reporting needs with NAPA Office reporting platform or standard third party database reporting tools. 5 5 Implemented using Java TM technology Creates PDF output automatically or by request Open relational database as storage device Tamper proof data storage The NAPA Voyage Reporting is a state-of-the-art fuel and energy reporting system which can be used for any type of vessel and fleet. To suit the needs of the owner or operator, the level of automation can be flexibly chosen between totally manual input to automatic black box recording. Independent from the power plant, propulsion, provision or hotel configuration the reporting shows figures both numerically and graphically of the main consumers and producers. The principle in the reporting is to show values that really are valuable for the user in easy-to-read format. Reports can easily be modified to fit exactly the needs of the owner or operator. NAPA Voyage Reporting can be extended with any number of predefined reports. In addition to the predefined report set which offers a modern top-down view of the whole fleet, the NAPA Voyage Reporting offers separate tools for data mining, analysis, plotting and exporting data for further processing. Advantages of selecting Onboard-NAPA loading computer As more and more users select NAPA as their primary tool for designing vessels, creating loading manuals and trim and stability booklets, it seems only natural that the selection of Onboard-NAPA as the ship s loading computer is the obvious choice. As the rules of stability computers are tightening and the need to base the calculation on a real 3D model becomes obvious, Onboard-NAPA should be the primary choice. Some of the advantages of selecting Onboard-NAPA have been listed below. 3.1 Same results Onboard-NAPA is based on NAPA; it is just another user interface. The results of the stability booklets are identical (at least nearly - minor differences can be caused by LD argument settings). This eliminates the confusion of keeping the results within the tolerances. 3.2 Easy classification As most classification societies are NAPA users, the understanding and trust in NAPA results ensure an easy classification of the loading instrument. Onboard-NAPA also has all the appropriate type approvals. 3.3 Easy delivery As the NAPA database includes almost everything necessary for creating Onboard-NAPA, the delivery of the databases, a GA-drawing (preferably electronically), details about the draught marks and the loading manuals for approval is the basic set on which Onboard-NAPA can be prepared. With the possibility to encrypt the data, the shipyard can also be sure of the security of the business critical data. 3.4 Secured data onboard Even if all calculations in Onboard-NAPA are based on the direct application of the 3D geometrical model, all data can be stripped, encrypted and secured so that the database sailing on the ship is useless for anything else except as the calculation base for Onboard-NAPA. 3.5 Possibility to take control of the complete process If you are designing or building tankers, there is a unique possibility to take an even deeper control of the delivery process of the loading computer. For Onboard-NAPA tanker deliveries, the ExportDB Manager offers you these possibilities. They are not only free of charge, but you will be able to lower the price of a typical tanker delivery by taking these extra steps. The more control and responsibility you take, the more the price goes down.
