1 Infant/Toddler Professional Caregiver Certificate (I/T 121) A formal online training series of six separate modules providing an opportunity to build Infant/Toddler training hours and earn a professional development certificate Runs August 24, January 31, 2016 Targeted Needs Training Come join T/TAS and your colleagues for an on-line training experience designed to address your interests and encourage reflection and networking. Materials and activities will be available 24/7 for each of the six modules, August 24, January 31, As a registered participant, you will be able to access the training any place you have Internet access and can complete assignments at your own pace. This 121-hour Infant/Toddler on-line training offers teachers, home visitors, and supervisors the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of Early Head Start and Infant/Toddler understanding and to exchange ideas with staff throughout the nation. Content is appropriate for staff working with infants, toddlers, and families in Early Head Start, Head Start, Public Schools, Child Care, Family Child Care and other programs. The Infant/Toddler Professional Caregiver Certificate (I/T 121) is an excellent way for programs to offer new employees an orientation to Early Head Start, provide staff with professional learning opportunities that can be used to earn an Infant/Toddler CDA, renew an existing I/T CDA, or as a way to meet individualized training needs/interests based on their targeted professional development plan. Training Topics I/T 121 is divided into the following six modules: Overview of the Performance Standards (1 hour) Early Childhood Health, Safety & Nutrition (24 hours) Professional Learning (24 hours) Infant/Toddler Learning Environments & Curriculum (24 hours) Introduction to Assessment of Young Children and Their Environment (24 hours) Family & Community Partnerships (24 hours) Training Techniques This training is online and all instructions and materials will be available via individual login access using an Adobe Connect online learning platform. Training techniques will include the review of meaningful resources including articles, videos, audio clips, web sites, and PowerPoint presentations. An interactive exchange on the discussion board will enrich the learning and encourage networking. Practical training assignments will allow each participant to practice skills addressed. An official recognition of training hours completed will be provided for each individual module successfully completed. Participants are responsible for completion of the module(s) within the stated time frame.

2 Learning Outcomes by Modules Module 1 - Overview of Performance Standards: Participants will recognize the impact that the Performance Standards have in the everyday roles and responsibilities of Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Module 2 - Early Childhood Health, Safety, and Nutrition: Infants and toddlers are growing and changing at an amazing pace! Each day brings exciting new skills and abilities, and yes, challenges. Families entrust their littlest ones to our care, having confidence that we are prepared to safely guide them through each day. Focusing on medical, nutritional, oral, socio-emotional, and safety expectations, this module will guide the learner through the key comprehensive health mandates required to competently support our young students. Federal and state directives as well as quality best practices will be addressed. Regulations and resources will be shared. Expect interactive as well as self-directed learning experiences. Module 3 - Professional Learning: What does it mean to be an Early Childhood Professional? This module will allow participants to explore the nuts and bolts of professional learning. Participants will engage in activities designed to examine professional ethics and behaviors, making professional development plans, exploring early childhood professional organizations and other exciting professional learning opportunities. Module 4 - Infant-Toddler Learning Environments & Curriculum: Participants will examine the overall development of infants and toddlers, review developmental milestones, and examine developmentally appropriate practices in the everyday routine of caring for infants and toddlers. Participants will also explore what curriculum means and how it applies in the infant/toddler program. Module 5 - Introduction to Assessment of Young Children and Their Environment: This module offers teachers, caregivers, and home-visitors working with children birth to five, and their supervisors the opportunity to study the complex topic of child assessment and exchange ideas with others throughout the nation. Participants will address the following topics: Purpose of Observation and Assessment Assessment Related Terms, Definitions, and Resources Effective Assessment Practices and Methods Assessment Results for Planning Collaboration With Professionals and Families Assessment of Learning Environment Module 6 - Family & Community Partnerships: Head Start and Early Head Start offers parents opportunities and support for growth, so that they can identify their own strengths, needs and interests, and find their own solutions. Head Start also serves families within the context of the community and recognizes many other agencies and groups who work with the same families. The objectives for this module are to: Help staff support parents as they identify and meet their own goals and nurture the development of their children in the context of their family and culture; Ensure that programs collaborate with partners in their communities in order to provide the highest level of services to children and families; Foster the development of a continuum of family centered services; and Advocate for a community that shares responsibility for the healthy development of children and families.
