2 ACCOUNT TECHNICIAN Class Definition: Classified Under the direction of the Director of Business, the account technician fulfills accounting and clerical responsibilities while also assisting with general office operations. Reports to: Director of Business Operations Recommended Qualifications: A minimum of two years experience in a related field, preferably in a school district setting. High school diploma or equivalent. Candidate must seek responsibility, be highly motivated to produce a large amount of work with accuracy, and is expected to be a self-starter. Work with a minimum amount of supervision. Maintain a cooperating working relationship with those contacted in the course of work and with the public. Work under time constraints. Performance Responsibilities: Prepares various financial reports. Performs financial operations, such as purchase orders, ADA reports, warrant registers, etc. Handles general office functions such as filing, phones, and reception. Other duties as assigned. 3 Term of Employment: Work Year : 12 months, Salary: Range 24 ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in an appropriate field. Appropriate California Teaching Credential. Desirable Qualifications: Master's Degree in Special Education or related field. Desirable Experience: Experience with disabled children or adults, preferably in a school setting. Experience with or willingness to become involved in Special Olympics. Credentials, Skills and Abilities: Possession of, or qualification for, a California Specialist Credential authorizing service in Adapted function as a member of an educational team. Familiarity with a variety of assessment tools and ability to implement varied instructional techniques. Strong behavior management, positive discipline skills. Ability to work in varied settings with a variety of personnel. Summary of Position: Under administrative direction of the Director of Special Education, will provide quality adapted physical education services to severely handicapped, orthopedically handicapped, seriously emotionally disturbed, deaf, or communicatively handicapped students ages 18 months to 22 years, through a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs; infusion of physical education across functional, community based curriculum; interagency cooperation, and a strong parent-teacher-student linkage. Essential Functions: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Diagnose and prescribe physical education programs in consultation with parents and IEP team members. 2. Design services, including small and large group instruction, for a range of motor development defects. 3. Collaborate with appropriate classroom and support personnel for IEP implementation. 4. Record student progress and complete reports as needed. 5. Complete community based instructional plan where necessary and appropriate. 6. Provide in-service training to classroom staff as appropriate. 7. Articulate curriculum between and among student levels. 5 ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION TEACHER Brief Description of Position Provides an educational program for pupils in grades 7,8,9,10,11,12, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned. Major Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provides education for students who are not successful in the mainstream secondary environment, or for some reason are unable to attend regular school. This could include, but is not limited to students on suspended expulsions, students with emotional or behavioral challenges, or students with significant attendance problems. 2. Teaches assigned courses to alternative education students in a multiple subject teaching situation, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees. The teacher in this classroom setting is responsible for teaching a wide variety of subject areas within the instructional day. 3. Instructs pupils in citizenship and other general elements of the course of study specified by state law and procedures of the school district. 4. Develops lesson plans, learning experiences to meet the needs of the individual pupil. Creates learning materials to meet the individual needs of the students involved. 5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 6. Evaluates pupil s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares grade reports, and communicates with parents concerning the individual pupil s progress. 7. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 8. Creates, with assistance from pupils; a functional, age-appropriate and attractive environment for learning. 9. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the district, and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 10. 8 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Class Definition: Administration Under the direction of the principal, the assistant principal helps to oversee the successful operation of the school site. Reports to: Principal Provides Direction to: All classified and certificated staff at the school site. Recommended Qualifications: Appropriate California Administrative Credential Masters Degree plus 3 years Experience in a Unified school district or comparable experience in working successfully in school settings. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary standards-based instructional practices. Demonstrates positive leadership. Demonstrated knowledge of categorical programs, No Child Left Behind legislation, Title I, English Language Learners, Title II, IDEA, School Improvement, GATE, and other categorical programs. Performance Responsibilities Assists the principal in the following: Plans, directs, and evaluates the instructional program at the school site. Supervise and evaluates certificated and classified personnel at the school site. Demonstrates initiative when interpreting school program and when interacting with parent groups and community organizations. Oversees all instructional issues and reporting responsibilities relative to State and Federal program compliance for the school site. Oversees all aspects of school operations. Develop long-range academic offerings at the site. Advises and consults with the professional staff in the development and execution of effective instructional methods and programs. Provides academic consultation for students as needed. Coordinates educational programs at the site. Coordinates opportunities such as grant writing and applications for various awards and honors. Plans, administers and controls the school budget, including specially funded programs. Remains informed about innovative methods in the field of education, including new programs, materials, methods and equipment. 11 ATTENDANCE CLERK Class Definition: Classified Under the direction of the principal, the attendance clerk performs a wide variety of general clerical duties and responsibilities in support of an assigned office or school site. This includes supervising and assisting in maintenance of attendance records according to state, county and local regulations. 13 BILINGUAL AIDE GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, provides instruction and tutors individual and small groups of students in assigned programs for English learners in various subjectmatter areas to reinforce classroom lessons; observes, monitors and records student performance and behavior; performs administrative functions in support of classroom activities; and performs related duties as assigned. They may be called upon to provide direct assistance to students whose language needs require significant intervention on the part of an adult assistant. These activities may include assistance with translation, tutoring and other special needs as appropriate. The bilingual Aide is expected to maintain records related to the English learner program including test scores, cumulative file documents, and other related records. The Bilingual Aide may also be expected to perform language testing functions for this group of students. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Bilingual Aides are responsible for providing, under the guidance and direction of a classroom teacher, instruction and tutoring on various subjects to students with language needs in assigned programs for English learners. Work assigned to a Bilingual Aide may require knowledge of subject areas applicable to an area of assignment and the ability to provide instruction to students with language needs in an effective manner. Bilingual Aides are distinguished from Instructional Assistants in that incumbents in the former class are assigned to work with students with language needs. As such, their duties may include basic care for language assistance for students beyond regular instructional tasks. QUALIFICATIONS Two years experience performing duties comparable to those of an instructional aide. Completion of at least 24 units of community college coursework, or equivalent, designed to develop skills in the area of physical education. Knowledge of children s recreational activities involving sports and games in a physical education setting. Ability to demonstrate good English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic. Able to assist with supervising the learning activities in a school setting. Able to work independently and with initiative. Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Able to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with children, teachers and support staff. 15 BUS DRIVER GENERAL PURPOSE : Under general supervision, operates conventional and light school buses or a passenger van in the transportation of students over designated routes and on field trips; washes, sweeps, refuels and performs safety checks and inspections on assigned vehicles; and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS : This is the full journey-level class. Incumbents are expected to be proficient in the operation of all classes of vehicles in the District s fleet of Type 1 and Type 2 buses and passenger vans. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Operates a school bus or passenger van to transport students to and from home, school or other District sites; assists students with exceptional needs in accessing and departing from buses and vans; oversees the loading, seating and unloading of students from buses and vans; provides escort/safe passage across streets and roadways; maintains order and enforces District rules for student behavior on school buses. 2. Operates a school bus or van in transporting students, teachers and parents to and from field trips; assists in loading and unloading of instruments and equipment; maintains security of school buses and vans while attending events and on field trips. 3. Performs emergency first aid on students, including CPR when required and in accordance with District policies and procedures. 4. Evacuates buses in emergencies, following District rules and procedures; regularly conducts emergency evacuations; instructs students on bus safety and emergency evacuations. 5. Performs required maintenance and safety checks and inspections on assigned vehicles; prepares and submits inspection reports. 6. Washes, sweeps, refuels and performs equipment checks on assigned vehicles. 7. Recommends route and schedule changes to meet needs; participates in the development of student transportation routes and schedules. 8. Prepares and submits daily trip reports; maintains fuel consumption and mileage records. OTHER DUTIES : 1. Performs minor maintenance, servicing and repairs to District buses, vans and vehicles. 2. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the Transportation Department s offices, classrooms, restrooms and facilities. 3. Performs a variety of office and administrative support duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Training and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is successful completion of a school bus driving training program recognized by the California Highway Patrol; or some combination of education, training and experience that produces the requisite knowledge and ability. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A valid California driver s license, class A or class B, with a passenger endorsement. A valid Special School Bus Driver s Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol. A valid first aid certificate issued by an authorized agency. Incumbents are required to pass a Department of Transportation bi-annual physical examination. 18 CAMPUS SAFETY OFFICER GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, patrols school buildings, grounds, parking areas and areas adjacent to school property to maintain order and security; facilitates communication between students and staff to enhance understanding and promote a secure environment; and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS With direction from a school administrator, incumbents patrol school buildings, grounds and adjacent areas to maintain order and security and to prevent illegal acts.
