1 Law Library Association of Greater New York 2016 Scholarship Application General Scholarship Information Two (2) types of scholarships will be awarded this year to students pursuing a graduate degree in library science. One (1) Type 1 Scholarship, which is for new students only, will be awarded. A recipient may receive a Type 1 scholarship only once during their program attendance. One (1) Type 2 Scholarship, which is for experienced students, will be awarded. No applicant may receive a LLAGNY scholarship more frequently than every third year. An applicant who qualifies for both types may request to be considered for an award of either a Type I or a Type II scholarship. The deadline for all applications is May 9th, Applications should be sent to grantsandscholarships@llagny.org. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than May 23 rd, Recipients will be honored at the June Dinner and Annual Meeting and are expected to attend as guests of LLAGNY. Criteria for Type 1 Scholarship (For New Library School Students) 1. Applicant must be in or accepted into a MLS program in an ALA-accredited library school in the NY Metropolitan area. a. Applicant need not be a member of LLAGNY, but participation in LLAGNY events is considered. 2. Applicant must demonstrate their interest in the study and the profession of librarianship based on employment history, graduate program participation, and volunteer activities. 3. Two (2) recommendations from peers, employers, or instructors are required in addition to the timely submission of this application. Criteria for Type 2 Scholarship (For More Experienced Students) 1. Applicant must be a Regular or Student LLAGNY member. 2. Applicant must have either completed 12 credits toward a MLS degree in an ALAaccredited library school in the NY metropolitan area OR have at least 3 years of work experience in a law library and be in or accepted into a MLS program in an ALAaccredited library school in the NY metropolitan area. 3. Applicant should have a demonstrated commitment to librarianship, based on employment history, graduate program participation and volunteer activities. 4. Two (2) recommendations from peers, employers, or instructors are required in addition to the timely submission of this application. a. Greater weight will be given to recommendations from library-related employers and instructors.
