4 California Community Colleges Student Mental Health Program Suicide Prevention Efforts Online, interactive gatekeeper training simulation. Trains faculty, staff and students how to recognize when a student or peer is exhibiting signs of psychological distress and how to approach and connect the student to support services. Avatar-based learning allows participants to practice and learn to use open-ended questions, reflective listening and other motivational interviewing techniques. Kognito is included on the Suicide Prevention Resource Center s best practices registry. Three of the training modules include a 1 year no-cost extension allowing access for campuses through 6/30/15. Additional LGTBQ and Veterans training modules include a 3 year no-cost extension allowing access for campuses through 6/30/17. Beyond the no-cost extension, campuses may continue with Kognito at a significantly discounted rate after SMHP funds end.
