1 M A R C H All-Star News Ardenwald Elementary School 8950 SE 36 th Street, Milwaukie OR Dear Ardenwald Families and Friends, I am proud of the academic and social progress our students are making and of the hard, focused work of students and staff. It shows every day. I am very fortunate to be able to be part of the wonderful Ardenwald community and appreciate the support shown to us by parents and families. When we work together, we all emerge stronger. Thank you! Next week, we will celebrate Classified Appreciation Week. Secretaries, cooks, bus drivers, instructional assistants, and custodial staff are all Classified employees. Clearly, we would not be able to function smoothly without them and the work they do daily. On Monday our Ardenwald PTO will provide breakfast goodies to Classified staff to kick off the week. Please join me in making sure these dedicated employees know how much we value the work they do! OAKS (Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) testing will take place after Spring break. Third, fourth and fifth grade students take a standardized Math and Reading test yearly. Fifth graders will also take a standardized Science test. We have designed our testing schedule deliberately to allow for the most instruction possible to occur prior to testing. Teachers and students are working hard at mastering the standards at their grade level to be ready to show what you know on OAKS. You will be receiving more information from your child s classroom teacher, but I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about a couple things. Students will do a practice test before the official test. This is to make sure the children have an understanding of the technology and format of the tests. The tests are not timed, and students are encouraged to take their time and do their best. Please help reinforce this with them, as, once they start testing, we can not interfere with the pace they choose. Thanks for all you do to support Ardenwald students, families and staff. You are greatly appreciated! If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please contact us sooner rather than later. I hope to see you soon!
