vran Architecture to enable On-Bus HetNet LTE and Public Wi-Fi Traffic demarcation and de-aggregation Traffic prioritization/traffic steering Load balancing MME SGW epdg PGW Non-M1 subscriber Router Seamless handover between macro 4G+ network and the Wi- Fi network on board the bus Traffic aggregation as one from multiple devices Flexible backhaul (3G, 4G, 4G+) with seamless handovers Carrier aggregation on 4G+ backhaul Location-based (LBS) enablement AAA Internet Augmented reality services based on LBS 12
HetNet Gateway Multi-technology Orchestrator Located in the cloud (M1 operating center) Runs on any Intel-based COTS server Makes in-vehicle unit smart with real-time SON Self-configuring Self-optimizing Dynamic traffic re-routing Traffic mitigation Anchors end user IP address Manages seamless mobility licensed/unlicensed and handoffs when users leave the bus Point of demarcation of aggregated traffic Point of de-aggregation of M1/non-M1 users Traffic prioritization, traffic steering, load balancing 13
In-vehicle Unit Overview Smart Cell: Compact form factor can easily fit on a bus 3G/4G/Wi-Fi for access Integrated backhaul can use LTE (or 3G as worst case scenario) as backhaul LTE CA backhaul bigger, prioritized pipe Mesh backhaul Closer to the antenna/closer to the end user stronger signal for better end user experience All bus riders traffic aggregation as 1 stream better resource utilization traffic prioritization by macro as traffic carrier aggregated Precise location tracking new LBS (locationbased services) for end users and bus fleet 14
End User Experience
What Can you Do Over On-Bus HetNet Technology? Anything that you would normally do on your mobile device Voice over Wi-Fi Mobile Gaming Mobile Video Social Media/Sharing Web browsing Great Quality of Service while you are traveling to your destination! 16
Why On-Bus HetNet technology? Other On-Bus Wireless Services Versus On-Bus HetNet Other On-Bus Wireless Service Limited bandwidth to be shared among all the users aboard a bus or train car Varied signal strengths Limited throughput: user are asked to limit the streaming of audio and video, as well as the download of large files. Locations where service is intermittent or unavailable: "dropped" calls and "dead zones" On-bus HetNet High bandwidth High throughput Consistent QoS Seamless experience No dead zones No dropped calls 17
Parallel Wireless Solution Benefits LTE/HetNet in the bus orchestrated by HNG For the End User For the Bus Company For Service Providers Subscriber QoS: seamless experience Full mobility support: Handins and handouts of any type of UEs Locally anchored and optimized mobility LBS User can travel seamlessly between different technologies User w/bad experience can be moved onto another technology transparent to the user Support VoHSPD & VoWiFi with enabling smooth migration to VoLTE Strong signal, better throughput Real-time analytics for user experience management: No of connected users to each SSID. No of connected users vs users in bus. KPIs related to each SSID. Peak hour vs Non Peak hour analysis. Periodically stats can be pushed to HetNet GW and analyzed. Periodically uploads the busoperational data to SMRT M2M: Real-time fleet management based on analytics, alarm and alerts Fuel level If repairs are needed LBS to dispatch another bus if an accident or broken down New revenue streams Attract new customers, reduce churn Drive profitable data revenues by providing user personalization and seamless secure heterogeneous access across 3G, LTE, and Wi-Fi networks Enter new, growing markets such as content delivery, enterprise services, location-based services, machine-to-machine (M2M) Ability to efficiently manage and mitigate traffic w/son capabilities Smart Camping (based on the type of traffic, load distribution and the speed) ANR ICIC Intelligent traffic routing Differentiated end user experience 18

Value Added Services for End users Examples Added Service Description How it Works Benefits Track my Ride Periodic Synch to centralized server. Bus location and Approximate time to reach xyz bus stop. Approximate Delay, etc. Live Updates to users via push messages. Trace the bus via special applications Approximate Time to reach the xyz bus station. Using the GPS and CWS, periodic location of bus equipped w/cws can be pushed to M1 servers Based on Bus location, approximate time ( Distance/avg. speed) can be calculated and pushed to users via special apps or messages For the riders and family to real-time track ride status Mobile Targeted Advertising and Location Based advertising SP can generate new revenue by providing contextuallybased advertisements to their end users. The context can be based on a number of items to help the SP identify the relevant content, including location which is based on the physical movement of consumers. The location information can be combined with user data and context (for example, time of day, season, or environmental conditions). This information can be used by advertisers to personalize and fine-tune location-based ads. Based on Bus location and next bus station automatic information can be pushed to users about the nearby places to visit & ads/coupons relevant to the nextbus-stop Information can be dynamically updated based on the time-of-day (as in coupon for coffee & passengers age group etc. New revenue opportunities for SPs Convenient and relevant for end user Premium Mobile Video Depending on a user, operators can offer ubiquitous service across 3G, LTE, and Wi-Fi access networks for their video services. To provide differentiated services, SP can set up policies to offload certain users onto Wi-Fi when macro radio QoS deteriorates. HNG will enable intelligent traffic steering and offload based on user profile SPs: Gain new video services revenues by partnering with third-party video content Providers Gain new subscribers by bundling video services with higher-end tiered pricing plans Enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty with dependable, premium-quality video services Reduce the cost of delivering video to the subscriber base End Users quality video experience 20
Future Vision New Revenue Opportunities for End Users and with M2M Train LTE & Public Wi-Fi access on a train with seamless LTE coverage, Higher QCI and Optimized M2M/IoT train fleet management End users: Provide LTE + public Wi-Fi (SG & SGx) coverage inside the train coaches using Parallel Wireless s CWS orchestrated by HNG for resource optimization and seamless mobility. PW s CWS provides high speed Wi-Fi and cellular access inside the train coaches using LTE Backhaul from radio base stations. M2M Fleet of trains management (communicating schedules, train condition, passenger load, etc.) to monitor, predict and efficiently manage Maritime High speed Access on Ships M2M/boat management ~10k ms End users: Big ships come near port (generally around 10kms from port) for refueling. The small boats carry the fuel to the ships from port for re-fueling. Small ships will have Parallel Wireless CWS solution which will provide Cellular and/or Wi-Fi to users on ships. Directional or Omni antennas can be used to direct the access signal. Backhaul can be any cellular technology HNG will mitigate the interference Given that the serving targets in this context are largely foreign boats, in-ship cellular access can be turned on to capture roaming revenue To conform to the Singapore government regulation, GEO fencing needs to be applied i.e. certain cellular access can be turned on only matching certain permitted GEO co-ordinates M2M Fleet of boats management (fuel level, distance, maintenance, distress) 21
Summary LTE/HetNet on the Bus orchestrated by HetNet GW Seamless Mobility Seamless handovers from licensed to unlicensed High Throughput LTE for Backhaul and carrier-aggregation for backhaul. Load control mechanism. Consistent QoS Intelligent traffic steering, traffic prioritization and offload. Data session continuity for end users/no authentication required. 22
