3 INTRODUCTION The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) introduces Mexico at a Glance 2012, an annual summary report made up of the most important data. This report gives a general overview of México s main characteristics, such as its natural environment and what has been done to protect it, its demographic and social aspects, its science and technology, and its economical activities. At the same time, it gives evidence of the availability of information in Mexico, thus giving users a starting point from which to delve into a specific subject. It is important to note that the year on the cover refers to its editing year, most of the statistics here presented pertain to 2011 and have been generated by various central sources of the public, private, and social sectors, including INEGI itself. Additionally, to enrich its content and allow international comparability, we have included information from some international organizations. Your suggestions on how to further improve this publication are greatly appreciated. INEGI. Mexico at aglance 2012
