Meeley PRESENTED BY ORYX As the excitement about Web Framework applications increases, many developers are beginning to focus on some key concepts in the deployment of web applications. In this session we will cover the basics of web application deployment, deploying using cloudbased services like Amazon EC2 and load testing using automated tools like LoadUIWeb. Stephen is Vice President of Development and will use a remote session.

3 Components of a Web Deployment 3 Microsoft IIS Web server with proper access and security Configured to meet the needs of WebApp Server WebApp Server All the components of the server, the Administrator and various DataFlex components and utilities Gets information about the web applications from the registry Workspace AppHTML Data embedded or access to database server Programs Reports Minimal or full workspace? Webshare Maps the AppHTML folder to the virtual ldirectory

4 What really has to happen? 4 WebApp Server Register Server / Service happens during installation Register ISAPI Extension happens during installation Workspace Create Web Share Studio or Administrator Register the Web Application with the Server Studio or Administrator Have all the correct application pieces This part is up to you AppHTML Data Programs Reports Etc. 6 What about tools? 6 Once the WebApp Server is installed, the Administrator (or Studio) will do the rest. Demo Get an application Use Studio or Administrator to register the application Run the application

7 Server Overview 7 Studio Testing and demonstration Servers Lite Single server, one application running one process Application Per application licensing, can act as slave in multi-server configurations Web Clients Per user licensing (can be spread over multiple applications), can act as slave in multi-server configurations SPLF Specify Application or Web Clients (match with the slaves being used), can act as slave in multi-server configurations

8 Deployment Scenarios 8 Single Server Great for development, testing and demonstration Also great for basic deployments A bit iffy if using SQL (processing load of IIS, WebApp and SQL might stress the system) Single Server with SQL on separate server Moves SQL processing load to dedicated resource SQL server can be inside firewall Two Server with SPLF IIS server and web components outside firewall WebApp processes and data inside firewall Better if using SQL (may still have separate SQL server) Multiple Servers with SPLF Adds multiple servers to handle WebApp processes

9 Cloud Servers as Hosts 9 Chip spoke about the important (and increasing) role cloud computing plays We use AWS for development testing Just like virtual machines, cloud instances revolutionize what you can do before you even get to the customer site We have whatever configurations we need, whenever we need them, for as long as we need them I m going to use AWS to facilitate this demonstration I ll also use LoadUIWeb to help you see how to access and tune performance Demo It s all in the process pool Recording LoadUIWeb scripts
