10 Postgraduate discount for current students and recent alumni Current undergraduate students and alumni who have graduated since 1 July 2011 can get a 25% discount on postgraduate fees for courses commencing in September 2016 The postgraduate discount for professional Law courses (Graduate Diploma in Law, LLM Legal Practice Course & Bar Professional Training Course) is 1,000 Terms and Conditions apply certain courses are excluded Further information is available: 22 March

14 Further school scholarships School of Art & Design The Paul Smith Scholarship Scholarships to the value of 3,000 enabling you to travel to Tokyo and study at Bunka Fashion College for six weeks. Available to those looking to study on the following courses: MA Fashion Design MA Fashion Knitwear Design MA Textile Design Innovation Further information is available online School of Arts & Humanities Research Pathway Scholarships Five full-fee scholarships Applicants must have completed an Arts and Humanities undergraduate degree (minimum 2.1) and intend to progress to MPhil/PhD study within the School 22 March

15 EU / International fee reductions and scholarship schemes Range of scholarships for international and EU students These range from 2,000 up to half of the tuition fee There are also scholarships available specifically for certain nationalities, these range from 2,000 to 10,000 Students can be awarded more than one scholarship, however the total amount awarded cannot exceed more than half of the tuition fee with the exception of the Brenda Howe Africa Scholarship NTIC students aren t eligible for the International Scholarship scheme they instead have their own schemes. 17 Postgraduate student loans The UK Government has introduced a new postgraduate loan scheme for the 2016/17 academic year for Masters degrees. The postgraduate loan will be a contribution towards the costs of study and it will be at the student s discretion to the use the loan towards fees, maintenance costs or other costs. The information on the following slides is based on information that has already been released by the UK Government and Student Finance England. Further details and clarification on eligibility criteria and the application process is still being released, so we recommend that you continue to check the Government Student Finance pages (Gov.uk/studentfinance) regularly for updates. 18 Postgraduate student loans: Eligibility Students will be able to borrow up to 10,000 for the purpose of completing an eligible Masters qualification including the following: MSc, MA, MRes, LLM, MBA & MPhil The loan will be available to students studying on a full-time, parttime (subject to a minimum 50% intensity requirement) and distance learning basis (if studying in England) across all subject disciplines Students must be under the age of 60 (further details relating to this criteria is available on line). Students who already hold a Master s qualification (or an equivalent or higher level qualification) will not be eligible for the loan. 22 March

19 Postgraduate student loans: Residency Loans are available to UK nationals (and individuals with settled status in the UK) who have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands for three years by the first day of their course. Students must be normally and most recently resident in England and not have moved there from elsewhere in the UK and islands just to study. Temporary absences aboard for study or travel should not impact on eligibility for a postgraduate loan. Individuals may also be eligible if they are an EU national or if they have the residency status of refugee or humanitarian protection, EEA or Swish migrant worker, a family member of any of the previous categories, or a child of a Swiss national or child of a Turkish Worker. 22 March

20 Postgraduate student loans: Courses Eligible courses must start on or after 1 August 2016 Eligible UK students can attend an eligible course anywhere in the UK or study an eligible course by distance learning while resident in England (subject to restrictions on personal eligibility) 22 March

21 Postgraduate student loans: Administration Paper and online applications Applications possible until 9 months after the course start date Loan request amount changes available part-way through the year Paid in three instalments per year Paid over two years on part-time courses (even if the course lasts longer than two years) Repayments commence April 2019 for those studying in 16/17 The repayment amount will be 6% of income over threshold ( 21,000 per annum or monthly/weekly equivalent) Voluntary overpayments are allowable at any time Repayments will be made concurrently with any other student loan repayments due. 22 March

22 Professional and Career Development Loans Bank loans to pay for courses and training that help with your career or help get you into work You may be able to borrow between 300 and 10,000 Loans are usually offered at a reduced interest rate and the government pays interest while you re studying You should apply three months before your course starts to give the bank enough time to process your application Your course will need to be registered on the Learning Provider list, we can help you ensure that your course is registered For more information visit: 22 March
