1 The Issue Problem Tree.jpg The problem that Sustain Micro Enterprise is dealing with is absolute poverty among the vulnerable women and their families. Absolute poverty is caused by a number of root causes as seen on the problem trees, however among the key root causes include unsustainable small businesses and livelihoods which is sub caused by: lack of capital among the women Lack of business skills and trainings Inaccessibility to financial services Poor crop yields 1 / 18

2 Target Population The Target population we will be working with are the vulnerable women To identify the vulnerable women in the communities, we will observe the living conditions of the women, income earned, the status of the women (Married, widow, grandmother, single mother, HIV Infected) and the nature of livelihood practiced by the women. This will help us to identify who a vulnerable woman is. In addition, husbands of the married vulnerable women will also be our secondary target population as we will work to change their perspective on how they view women in their families especially on family planning and allowing their women to work to earn a living The vulnerable women affected by extreme poverty will be found and accessed from their gardens in local communities, local women leaders' register of women considered vulnerable by community and local women groups. A total size of 150 vulnerable women is targeted at the start. 2 / 18

3 Stakeholder Analysis As we work the vulnerable women to alleviate them from absolute poverty, we will need the support of their husbands to give them permission to attend our meetings and business training sessions. If the husbands permit their wives to attend the business meetings, their wives will have an opportunity to start small businesses through our support. The husband will benefit in a way that their wives income will grow and hence the women can be able to share some responsibilities at home. This means that your wives can now buy soap, paraffin, sugar and even could help share the responsibility of paying some school fees thus reducing the burden on the husband alone. For the children, they are the key stakeholders who are impacted by the problem. We will their involvement in area of helping their mothers or grandmothers to revise with their mothers when they get home especially for older children who are school going. Revise with them by helping them to understand what we teach them. When the women understand well what we teach them, they will be able to set up sustainable businesses, grow their incomes and the children will be able to go to school since their mothers can now afford to send them to school. Children will further benefit so much as their mothers can now afford to buy them the basic needs they require and thus enjoy their lives and grow in a wealthier family. Local women leaders are also one of the stakeholders who have interest in the women lives. Working with the vulnerable women to help them work their way out of poverty will attract the local women leader involvement. What will require from the women leaders is to ensure that the women are well mobilized and attend our sensitization and training sessions. When the local women leaders gets involved in mobilizing the women for us she will benefit in numerous ways; since she is spearheading mobilization, she will win a lot of trust from the local women and they will vote her again in power as they see that she cares about them. The local women leaders will also benefit by seeing many women more empowered and not idle, thus in one way our services will be helping on building some credits for the women leaders and achieving some of their goals they put in their manifesto. 6 Drivers & Motivators of Change We believe that change comes from within in us; we cannot be motivated to create change if we ourselves do not feel it inside us. Even when there are no resources, the inspiration and the drive inside us motivates us to carry on change to address the problems. The transformational model and conscience social change absolutely fits in our model of operation, we believe this is appropriate. Our approach is more participatory and involves the community while solving the needs of those affected. Working with those affected by the problem empowers the people themselves to be part of problem solutions and intervention that is why connecting and listening to those affected is our priority. Our program to change therefore works with the people who are affected while taking care of their needs, community and culture. We focus on the root causes of the issue and the interventions are not static but rather flexible. Our intervention change with the changing needs thus we are shift to address the new face of the people s needs. 6 / 18
