4 CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH: ADVANCED (CAE) Cambridge English: Advanced, also known as Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), is an in-depth assessment of English for people who want to use English in demanding work and study situations. Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is a thorough test of all areas of language ability.the format of the exam divides into five papers: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking. The Speaking test is taken face-to-face, with two candidates and two examiners. This creates a more realistic and reliable measure of your ability to use English to communicate. Reading (1 hour 15 minutes) 4 parts/34 questions - Marks 20 % of total Shows you can deal confidently with different types of text, such as fiction, newspapers and magazines. Writing (1 hour 30 minutes) 2 parts - Marks 20 % of total You create two different pieces of writing, such as articles, essays, letters, proposals, reports and reviews. Use of English (1 hour) 5 parts/50 questions - Marks 20 % of total Tests your use of English with different types of exercise that show how well you can control your grammar and vocabulary. Listening (about 40 minutes) 4 parts/30 questions - Marks 20 % of total Tests your ability to follow and understand a range of spoken materials, such as interviews, radio broadcasts, presentations, talks and everyday conversations. Speaking (15 minutes per pair of candidates) 4 parts - Marks 20 % of total Tests your ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face situations. You will take the Speaking test with another candidate.

5 CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH: PROFICIENCY (CPE) Cambridge English: Proficiency, also known ascertificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), is our most advanced qualification. It proves you have achieved an extremely high level in English EXAMINATION CONTENT Reading and Use of English (1 hour 30 minutes) 7 parts /54 questions - Marks 40 % of total Shows you can deal confidently with different types of text, such as fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and manuals. Writing (1 hour 30 minutes) 2 parts - Marks 20 % of total Requires you to be able to write a variety of text types, such as essays, proposals, reports and reviews. Listening (about 40 minutes) 4 parts/30 questions - Marks 20 % of Total Requires you to be able to follow and understand a range of spoken materials, such as lectures, speeches and interviews. Speaking (16 minutes per pair of candidates) - 3 parts - Marks 20 % of total Tests your ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face situations. COMMON RULES: Speaking tests Candidates are examined in pairs with two examiners. Where there is an uneven number of candidates, the last single candidate will be examined with the last pair to form a group of three. RESULTS Certificates are awarded in three passing grades A, B and C on the aggregate of marks gained in the five papers indicated above. All candidates are provided with a statement of results which includes a graphical display of the candidate s performance in each paper. These are shown against the scale Exceptional Good Borderline Weak and indicate the candidate s relative performance in each paper. Note that there are no pass/fail marks for individual papers, hence there is no requirement to reach a particular level in any paper in order to achieve a pass in the examination.
