1 The following Session Abstracts are provided to assist you when selecting topics in the Visitor Information Sheet (VIS). If you have any amplifying information please put those comments in the topics section provided on the VIS. Customer Environment Presentation Customer would like a 30 minute block of time to present their current environment (if more or less time is required please let us know). In any case, please ensure that all pertinent information is conveyed to the host as soon as possible so that the presenters have time to prepare. Systems for a Smarter Planet: This session will cover IBM's strategic outlook for the future, and focus on examples from the IBM storage strategy, including shared data technologies, tiered infrastructures to reduce costs, security, business resilience, long term data retention and regulatory compliance. This session is good for the start of the briefing, as it helps to level set IBM's directions on a variety of products. Please allow 45 minutes for this topic Systems for a Smarter Planet Workshop: this is a briefing workshop designed around a specific information infrastructure related solution area you are currently working on. We utilize our best technical talent from research, development, lab services/ats and the field who use their solutions experience to architect/suggest recommendations in a round table setting. Workshops are customized for each client and can combine traditional topic presentations and working sessions, resulting in a high level Information Infrastructure strategy and approaches for addressing Information Availability, Security, Retention or Compliance solutions areas. These high level strategy suggestions are then turned over to the local team to assist in architecting a detailed solution. These workshops are not a replacement for a services engagement. Please allow 1-3 days Enterprise Disk Storage Efficiency Service Delivery Data Protection IBM XIV Storage System The On August 12, 2008 IBM announced the IBM XIV Storage System, which integrates the latest technology advances and an innovative design to deliver a grid-based storage system in an extremely easy-to-manage environment. It is a fully scalable, high-end system that delivers an excellent TCO-benefit ratio. This technology translates into a totally new experience in storage management. 2 DS8000: The IBM System Storage DS8800 is the most advanced model in IBM s DS8000 lineup and includes new dual IBM POWER6+ -based controllers that enable a new level of performance for the company s flagship enterprise disk platform. Please allow 75 minutes for this topic. Midrange Disk Storwize V7000: The IBM System Storage Storwize V7000 is an exciting addition to IBM s superior disk controller lineup. This topic covers the internal storage, virtualization, and replication technologies inherent in the Storwize V7000. The topic will cover the 2.5 inch and 3.6 inch drive choices for this machine. DS5000: This topic primarily covers the DS5000 Family (formerly known as FAStT) of fibre channel attached disk systems for UNIX and Intel platforms (Windows, Linux, Netware), with an overview of the hardware offerings, and a discussion of the drive choices with an explanation of the trade-offs between SATA and Fibre Channel drives. Please allow 30 minutes for this topic. DS3000: Aimed at the Small and Medium Business (SMB) marketplace, the DS3000 family of disk storage units offers unparalleled ease of use and upgrade. Customers wishing to move off internal storage now have the option of either SAS or Fibre Channel attached storage. The DS3000 family allows for point-intime copy functionality for quick and convenient replication of data. Designed to deliver advanced functionality at a breakthrough price, these systems provide an exceptional solution for workgroup storage applications such as , file, print and Web servers, as well as collaborative databases and remote boot for diskless servers. IBM System Storage N series N series Overview: The IBM System Storage N series are Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices that are designed to support entry-level and midrange customers having the need for IP/FC attached heterogeneous storage access with scalability up to hundreds of terabytes of fibre channel or SATA disk capacity. They support Network File System (NFS), Common Internet File System (CIFS), Internet Small Computer System Interface (iscsi) and Fibre Channel (FC) protocols for attachment to Microsoft Windows, UNIX and Linux systems. This presentation will provide an overview of the software and hardware functions available. Please allow 30 minutes for this topic.

3 IBM System Storage Tape Solutions (Based on Availability of Technical Community Support) Tape Drive Technology: Tape products are a critical component of IBM's tiered storage architecture and ILM strategy. IBM continues to invest in this technology which offers the promise of well beyond the current 1 TB cartridge. This presentation will focus on the role of tape in IBM's Information Infrastructure, and is intended to assist customers in choosing a drive technology best suited for their environment. The presentation will cover IBM exclusive technology featured in the TS1130 and TS1040 (LTO) tape drives. Tape drive roadmaps will be also be discussed. Please allow 45 minutes for this topic Tape Drive Encryption: (Also listed in the Security section of this document) This presentation covers IBM's unique tape encryption technology which enables encryption at the drive level without impact to performance and system resources. An overview of encryption requirements and techniques will be discussed. It can be added to the Tape Drive Technology Session. Please allow 30 minutes Tape Automation: A must for lights-out operations, and for the market in general due to 24 x forever operational demands, IBM tape automation offerings can accommodate customers of all sizes. Midrange Tape Automation: The TS3100/TS3200/TS3310 session can be tailored to smallto-large customers that primarily use Linux, UNIX and Windows with tape. For larger customers, we can include the use of Enterprise TS3500 library as well. Please allow 30 minutes for this topic. Enterprise Tape Automation: This presentation addresses both Distributed Systems and Mainframe requirements for large, scalable tape automation. The TS3500 (3584) product will be covered in detail, including new options for "deep archive". 4 IBM Virtualization Engine for Storage Virtual Tape for System z The IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700 offers tape virtualization for System z servers connecting over FICON connections. It is designed to help enhance Information Lifecycle Management by improving the utilization of tape resources, automating and simplifying IT operations and reducing costs, such as power and maintenance. This session will also cover the hardware components and software features, such as advanced policy management, encryption, performance and migration options for existing VTS solutions. Virtual Tape ProtecTIER (Diligent) / Deduplication: The IBM System Storage TS7600 ProtecTIER Deduplication Family of solutions meets the disk-based data protection needs of the enterprise data center while enabling significant infrastructure cost reductions. The TS7600 family of solutions combines a virtual tape library solution with high-performance, in-line data deduplication powered by IBM s patent-pending HyperFactor technology. This technology enables significant savings in disk requirements and costs. This session looks at how deduplication is done in the industry today and how HyperFactor works. It provides an overview of the distributed systems product line of gateways and appliances as well as the TS7680 Mainframe deduplication offering. SAN Volume Controller and Demo This session takes a look into virtualization of the SAN at the block I/O level. We cover disk virtualization across the SAN, illustrating how to easily manage a heterogeneous disk environment, including how to import existing data, migrate data between disk groups and dynamically expand application space. IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Overview This session describes IBM's approach and offerings for heterogeneous storage management in a multi vendor SAN environment. It is intended to introduce the options that make up the storage management progression: System Storage Productivity Center IBM's master console for storage management preloaded with TPC Basic edition; Disk provides a centralized management and control point for standards-based disk and tape storage devices for discovery, LUN provisioning and performance monitoring; Data which monitors and reports on heterogeneous storage resources at the file level enterprise-wide; Standard Edition which includes Disk and Data functions and adds discovery, performance monitoring and management of SAN fabric components as well as advanced analytics such as hot spot analysis; Replication which provides centralized monitoring and management for DS8K, ESS800, DS6K, and SVC disk based replication services; IBM Storage Enterprise Resource Planner which integrates with TPC for Data or TPC Standard Edition to provide business line reporting and billing capabilities. 5 IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Overview Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), IBM s Unified Recovery Management platform, offers enterprise-wide backup and recovery for protection of data on workstations and file servers, with specialized modules for protecting applications and databases. TSM also provides archiving for long-term records retention, HSM for efficient management of storage space and built in data deduplication for more efficient use of storage resources. This presentation describes concepts and functions of Tivoli Storage Manager. IBM System Storage Archive Manager (SSAM) Tivoli Storage Manager offers policy-based retention management for archive data. System Storage Archive Manager offers enhanced retention management for environments with stringent regulatory requirements. This topic summarizes these enhanced retention management capabilities and assumes a basic familiarity with Tivoli Storage Manager. Please allow 15 minutes for this topic. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager; Potential Future Enhancements This presentation provides a product roadmap and describes select potential future enhancements in the Tivoli Storage Manager family of products including TSM FastBack and IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager. The presentation is intended for those who already have a detailed understanding of current TSM functions. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Update The latest release of Tivoli Storage Manager provides enhancements to improve scalability, availability, performance and management. The enhancements can help improve the productivity of personnel administering and using Tivoli Storage Manager and provides a unified recovery management platform. This presentation describes key product enhancements introduced in the latest version of TSM. The presentation is intended for customers who already use an earlier version of TSM and want to learn about the latest features. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack Small offices and remote branch offices of larger businesses have unique data protection challenges, such as limited resources and skills dedicated to data protection and, in the case of remote offices, limited available bandwidth. The IBM Tivoli Storage Management portfolio addresses these needs by providing full-featured, easy to use, install and configure data protection products that are designed with small business and remote branch offices in mind. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack is a disk-to-disk backup solution with built in data deduplication specifically designed for small businesses and remote branch offices. It provides seamless data protection and recovery for critical Windows applications giving you the power to quickly recover any Microsoft Windows server data, anywhere in the organization, from any point in time. It also provides similar support for Linux based systems. A brief overview of each component is given followed by a demo of item level recovery for Exchange and mounting snapshots as virtual volumes. 6 IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager Overview IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager software provides fast application-aware backups and restores leveraging advanced snapshot technologies in IBM storage systems allowing for improved recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) over traditional backup solutions. As systems and databases continue to grow and become more complex it is becoming more and more difficult for storage administrators to backup and restore them using traditional methods. This topic will give an overview of the supported IBM storage devices, applications and backup and restore capabilities associated with each followed by a short demo of Windows GUI and item level recovery for Exchange. Business Continuance and Disaster Recovery for System z The importance of Business Continuance for many IT Executives and IT technical professionals has changed over the years. This presentation describes the lessons learned from recent disasters and how IBM storage technology can help businesses address many of the issues related to protecting their infrastructures and business-critical IT applications. The disaster recovery metrics of Recovery Time Objectives and Recovery Point Objectives are also defined and, along with the associated cost tradeoffs, discussed with particular emphasis on XRC and GDPS implementations. Business Continuance and Disaster Recovery for Distributed Systems The importance of Business Continuance for many IT Executives and IT technical professionals has changed over the years. This presentation describes the lessons learned from recent disasters and how IBM storage technology can help businesses address many of the issues related to protecting their e-infrastructures and business-critical IT applications. The disaster recovery metrics of Recovery Time Objectives and Recovery Point Objectives are also defined and, along with the associated cost tradeoffs, discussed from the vantage point of multiple IBM storage technology solutions for open systems (such as HACMP, TPC-RM, etc). Please allow 60 minutes for this topic. IBM System Storage Resiliency Family This topic is a subset of the topic Business Continuance and Disaster Recovery for Distributed Systems. First it covers the various types of FlashCopy functions available for licensing on the DS4000, DS6000, and DS8000 series. It then discusses the advantages and disadvantages of synchronous and asynchronous replication, and then focuses on the remote replication functions Metro Mirror, Global Copy, Global Mirror and the three-site Metro/Global Mirror. The trade-offs between bandwidth and recovery points are discussed with an actual customer scenario shown as an example of the implications of the trade-off. Please allow 45 minutes for this topic.

7 ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) ILM is comprised of the policies, processes, practices and tools used to align the business value of information with the most cost effective IT infrastructure from the time information is conceived through its final disposition. Information is aligned with business processes through management of service levels associated with applications, metadata, information and data. (SNIA definition) This session gives an overview of ILM concepts and focuses on the 5 pre-packaged entry points that IBM offers to help customers with ILM: Content Management, Archiving and Retention, Process Enhancements and Automation, Storage Optimization and Virtualization and Tiered Information Infrastructure. The IBM storage hardware and software portfolios that are a component of each entry point are described. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (Space Management); HSM Tivoli Storage Manager provides Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) in the TSM server storage hierarchy as well as HSM of client file systems. Client HSM is available using Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management (AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux) and Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows. This presentation gives an overview of client file system HSM for those already familiar with TSM basics. Please allow 30 minutes for this topic.
