1 LOCAL ANNOUNCEMENTS October 22, 2008 Edition # 42 The Gardiner Chamber of Commerce 222 Park Street PO Box 81 Gardiner, MT phone fax ROSELLA CURTIS, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all, died October 21, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. She was 74 years old. Rosella was born in Vinita, Oklahoma on January 29, She was the daughter of Bert and Irene Shambles. She grew up in rural Vinita where she met the love of her life and married Charles "Red" Curtis, Sr. on March 6, They moved to Laurel, Montana, where Red worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Their two children were born in Billings, Montana: Sharon Rose Lawrence, who is married to Larry and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Charles Calvin "Chuck" Curtis, Jr., who is married to Lisa and lives in Tampa, Florida. Rosie, as she was known by her friends, and Red returned to Oklahoma in 1962 where they raised their children, and moved back to Montana in 1992 where they owned Red's Blue Goose Saloon in Gardiner. Rosie was devoted to her family and still found time to organize food drives during Thanksgiving and Christmas, benefit auctions when someone was ill, and other community activities. She will be truly missed by those who were blessed to know her. She had 7 grandchildren: Ben Lawrence of Hillsboro, Oregon; Tim Lawrence of Little Rock, Arkansas; Katie Curtis of South Bend, Indiana; Rachael Curtis, Sophie Curtis, Elizabeth Curtis and Charles Calvin "Charlie" Curtis, III of Tampa, Florida. Rosella was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Edward "Bud" Hayes, Frank Shambles and Lloyd Shambles. The services for Rosie will be Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 2pm at the Gardiner Baptist Church. A reception at Red s Blue Goose Saloon will follow. Everyone is welcome. Virgil Hall, YNP retired Sign Maker, passed away unexpectedly, Sept. 26 at his home in Moses Lake, WA. Please join Virgil's friends and family in a celebration of his life Thursday, October 23, 2008, 3:00-5:00 at the Mammoth Hot Springs Community Room, (formerly the Yellowstone Park School) across the road from the Mammoth campground. Thank You to everyone who came out in the storm to help me celebrate my 90th Birthday. It was a pleasure to see each of you. I appreciated the warm wishes from all those who sent cards as well. We ll see you there! Wolf Creek Anti-Social Club: A small group of crafts people have pooled their resources to purchase acreage and build a log lodge. Our intent is to construct a sustainable lodge off the grid, supported by solar, wind, and possibly hydroelectric systems. These systems will be designed, developed, and constructed by our group. We will be documenting this entire process for future consultation and publishing. With a minimum financial investment and a lot of sweat equity, we believe we can create a very comfortable and enjoyable haven and at the same time provide a viable monetary investment.
