1 Position Reports to Business Intelligence Analyst Business Intelligence Manager (BIM) Company Synlait Milk Ltd Date: February 2013 Location 1028 Heslerton Road, Dunsandel, Canterbury Purpose Support Synlait s BI/Reporting strategy with support from the BIM. This is an essential support role in a rapidly growing and complex business which craves top quality information to make robust business decisions. Key Performance Areas Support and develop the company s BI and reporting requirements and strategy Support the BIM to maintain a disciplined and consistent approach to information delivery. Continuously improve the reporting suite where requested. Help the BIM deliver centrally developed key information to the business in line with the key principles below: a. Accurate b. Reliable c. Timely d. One version of truth e. Well presented f. No manual solutions g. Kimble methodology Work to a framework developed by the BIM to deliver reporting to the company on with adherence to the principles above. Communicates well with Reporting System users in the business how this framework operates and thereby setting reasonable expectations for delivery. Support and develop delivery of reports, and keep users informed on progress on requested functionality. Manages individual software goals to plans developed by the Business Intelligence Manager. Maintaining the quality of data access within reports. Ensure all work done follows a rigorous Quality and Testing process. Understand and adhere to security requirements of the BI architecture. 2 Maintain and improve on BI processes where necessary. Support the BIM in research of new BI tools. Follow established principles for obtaining good quality data for reports. Work with the BIM and IT to attain this. Build reports and reporting platforms. Working with IT and external parties Documentation & Change Request Management Interfaces with Business Intelligence Manager and Business Performance Manager to develop sensible reporting solutions Help build up the suite of many business reports and with support from BIM ascertaining improvements in delivery. E.g. through intranet, , Dashboard etc First line support for any issues raised with BI Reporting. Work with Contractors where necessary to improve business practices with relation to Business reports. Work with existing the existing BI Issues system and or future Synlait Issue Control systems to research and resolve issues as they arise. All documentation is maintained to agreed standards and is kept constantly up-to-date Training materials Process documents Business requirements documents Configuration data is documented and kept up to date Change requests, technical impact assessments, test scripts completed Maintain logs: including defect, change, problem, etc logs Others documents on request The BI analyst can quickly interpret and communicate through to BIM and BPM business requirements. 3 Education & Communication Help ensure that an appropriate level education is pushed out to the business on a regular basis to maintain current and new employees with the knowledge to get the most out of the BI system and processes. Help maintain and improve existing training manuals are developed to support the above and maintained to high standards. Customer Service Performance Expectations Ensure business users are satisfied with the service they receive Listen first Friendly and professional manner Clear commitments made and kept Keep users informed of progress Services are delivered within agreed service levels Know service levels expects for services On time response to corrections requested On time communication of progress Deliver project activities and deliverables to agreed scope, quality, time and budget Training to be delivered for all new users and changes to existing systems Use developed training material Provide BI helpdesk services, responding to calls, answering queries, investigating and resolving defects, logging change requests, etc and escalating as necessary Compliance / Risk Management Comply with all relevant company policies, delegations and relevant legislation / statutory requirements. 4 Team Work Work with others to contribute to the Business Performance Team and group outcomes Demonstrate active support of Synlait Milk values and exhibit behaviours that are consistent with them Keep up-to-date with business developments in the company and gain an understanding of the company s vision, mission and strategy. Projects Work on scoped projects as required and ensure they are completed within budget where reasonable. Undertake specific analysis and investigations at own initiative or under the direction of the BIM, to enhance business profitability in an accurate and timely manner. Professional & Personal Development Undertake identified personal training / development with the prior approval of the Business Information Manager. Remain abreast of current industry related trends, practices and disciplines and undertake regular updates in either competency training or changes in law as required. Keep up-to-date and demonstrate awareness of relevant legislation and best practice. Build networks with relevant organisations, professionals and associations. 7 Qualifications: Tertiary qualification required in Business/IT area. Demonstration of knowledge of accounting principles. Relevant Microsoft certification preferred Knowledge of ITIL Change Management desired Experience: Knowledge of BI technologies Exposure to and general understanding of BI concepts Knowledge of delivering BI solutions in business or academic arena Demonstrate ability to deliver quality assurance and deliverables in the BI area Knowledge of BI testing methods and techniques Skills: High intelligence and intuitiveness to be able to quickly assess situations and decisively and effectively act Sound analytical skills and some knowledge of financial models Proven relationship building skills Strong capability in problem solving and decision making Well-developed interpersonal coaching and mentoring skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a multi-tasking environment Health & Safety 1.
