Only recently has the rle f vitamin D, a vitamin we get frm the sun, been elucidated in MS. In the past few years, research demnstrates that vitamin D deficiency increases the risk f MS whereas intake f vitamin D is assciated with a lwer incidence f MS. Vitamin D deficiency is nw recgnized as an epidemic in the United States, especially fr in areas with limited sun expsure (the nrthern half f the US) and thse wh spend mst f their time indrs. In MS, the risk f steprsis is high, and prphylactic vitamin D and calcium shuld be cnsidered at an early stage, as these nutrients are essential t prevent bne lss. *Std Prcess Prsynbitic The immune-regulatry prperties f nrmal, healthy gut bacteria, prbitics, have been knwn fr sme time. Prbitics d nt stimulate the immune system, but prevents it frm verreacting, especially in autimmune diseases. Whereas sme individuals may need t supplement with prbitics lng-term, thers find it is nly necessary fllwing a curse f antibitics (at which time gut bacteria are usually depleted) r when their immune systems are run dwn. *Std Prcess Trace Minerals B12 r weekly B12 injectins when experiencing active lesins. B12 is imprtant fr the frmatin f myelin in the brain & spinal crd. In relapsing-remitting MS, there may be a Reference: The Multiple Sclersis Diet Swank & Dugan

6 THE MULTIPLE SCELROSIS DIET Swank & Dugan Page 6 f 6 significant amunt f healing (remyelinatin) that ccurs- by supplementing with the ingredients necessary fr the frmatin f myelin, we can reduce the risk f limiting factrs in the healing prcess. Sme literature even suggests supplementatin may encurage the regeneratin f myelin. Recent studies suggest B12 plays an imprtant rle in regulating the immune system. It is pssible that a subgrup f patients diagnsed with MS may actually have B12 deficiency cntributing t their neurlgical symptms. Std Prcess Bswellia Cmplex Cntaining nature s anti-inflammatries, this cmplex includes Bswellia, Turmeric, Celery Seed and Ginger.
