3 Who are we? National Services Scotland Information Technology (NSS IT) has many years of experience of working in the health and care environment and a growing experience across the wider public sector. We are driven to enable our customers and partners to deliver improved health and care outcomes and to achieve value for public money. We strive to provide efficient, effective, safe and personcentred IT services. NSS IT adds value in two main ways: through its IT expertise and through its support for and provision of shared services. Our expertise in areas such as clinical and information governance is embedded across our IT services to ensure high standards and continuous quality improvement.
4 Our 7 services As part of NHS Scotland, we have a unique insight into what IT means to the health service. We understand that IT is more than just wires and boxes, it is about improving patient care. Our seven services help you through every step of developing an IT solution in the health service - from initial advice to buying or building software to managing your IT service. 6 We advise on IT 1Architecture and consulting Got an idea? We can help bring it to life. We advise and guide customers looking to solve business problems with existing and new technology solutions. This includes defining requirements, appraising options to identify opportunities to reuse existing solutions and producing formal business cases. We offer consultancy services in specialist technical areas such as information security, web technology, network capacity planning, integration services, and many others.
7 Services include: Solution architecture ehealth consulting Business analysis and business case production Technical consulting Examples: Provision of Architecture and technical consulting for; Health and Social Integration, SPIRE, retiring ecare, and the National HEPMA cost model. Production of Business cases for: Optometry ereferrals and payments, Family Nurse Partnership IT solution, Confidentiality monitoring tool Fairwarning, and the replacement of CHI. Definition of the requirements of the CHI, Child health systems and SIRS.
8 We buy IT 2Procurement, contract and vendor management We use the combined buying power of NHS Scotland to get the best deals on technology. The savings we make can then be used to care for patients. Supporting the procurement of IT systems in NHS Scotland includes giving advice and guidance on IT procurement issues. Our Contract and Vendor Services manage the largest outsourced IT contract in the public sector in Scotland and a range of other important clinical and business-based IT services contracts. We undertake key contract administration functions to comply with NHS Scotland contractual agreements, legal requirements and best practice.

10 We deliver IT 3Project management Every ship needs a good captain. Major IT programmes of work are no different. We scope, plan and deliver PRINCE2 based projects. Working with stakeholders, we make sure the products are delivered on time, within budget and to the agreed quality. We have the depth and breadth of expertise to respond to any project. Whether it s the concept for a new national system, the upgrade of a network, or the improvement of a process, we plan, design and enable solutions.

16 We manage IT 6Solution stewardship Once a system is available, we focus on managing and supporting it. This includes facilitating clinical-based governance and managing change and release cycles. We also assure the agreed level of service, manage support capacity and costs, and handle any problems.
