1 CURRICULUM VITAE Professor Darío R. Gómez Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica, Argentina Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina SUMMARY Darío Gómez is Head of the Environmental Chemistry Department at the Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina (CNEA) and full professor at the Engineering School, University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He got a Chemical Engineering degree at the University of Mar del Plata, Argentina in Since 1984 he works at CNEA and UBA. As Head of the Environmental Chemistry Department his main duties involve planning, coordinating and supervising its activities. The Department composed by 40 members, including researchers, technicians and administrative personnel, graduate students working on PhD thesis, and undergraduate students working in different projects, has as main areas of interest the transport of pollutants in different environmental media, technologies for the removal of pollutants in water, soil and sediments, emission inventories and mitigation options of greenhouse gases and short lived climate pollutants. As a member of CNEA, he undertakes research on air pollution assessment and greenhouse gas mitigation strategies. He has co-authored about 70 scientific publications (peer reviewed papers and book chapters). The Environmental Chemistry Department also offers technical assistance to governmental institutions and the private sector. Within this context, he has led among others, the participation of the CNEA s team in the development of the first and second national communication of Argentina to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and CNEA s technical assistance to the Electricity Regulatory Agency of Argentina in its air pollution control program. As university professor he currently teaches the course of Process Design (UBA), which he introduced in the curriculum of the chemical engineering program 25 years ago and supervises the work of graduate students. He has guided various theses in engineering and atmospheric science in Argentina and has had a leading role in the update of the curriculum of the chemical engineering program (UBA) and the development of the curriculum of the environmental engineering program at the University of San Martin (UNSAM). He regularly cooperates with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the UNFCCC and local environmental institutions. He has served as a member of the editorial board of the IPCC s emission factor databse (EFDB) since its inception in 2002 and is currently one of its co-chairs. He has also been lead author for two IPCC publications (the Special report on carbon dioxide capture and storage and the energy volume of the 2006 IPCC guidelines for national greenhouse gas emission inventories). Under his colaboration with UNFCCC, he has participated as energy expert and lead reviewer in 13 technical expert reviews of national greenhouse gas emission inventories submitted to the UNFCCC, co-authoring 38 annual review reports and in recent years he has intensely cooperated with the UNFCCC s training activities for expert reviewers as an instructor and developing a new course for the review of the energy sector. In short, he has made original scientific contributions, played a significant role in providing technical assistance to activities on air pollution control and greenhouse gas emission estimates in his home country and has effectively cooperated with international, foreign and national institutions on environmental matters relative to the assessment of air pollution and the mitigation of greenhouse gases. 1/14
