2 WELCOME This program guide will provide you with information regarding memberships and descriptions of our programs offered. 3 MEMBER SERVICE MEMBERSHIP CARDS All new members (11yrs old and older) will receive a bar-coded membership card which they are required to scan each time they enter the Y facility. For a family membership, each family member needs to scan his or her card upon entrance into the facility. DAY PASSES Non-member guests who would like to use the facility are required to pay for a day pass and sign in at the front desk. Guests are expected to follow all rules set for members. LOCKER ROOMS AND LOCKS For your convenience, lockers are available in the locker rooms for daily use. We strongly recommend you bring a lock to secure your personal items. Lockers are available to rent, please inquire at the front desk. AGE GUIDELINES Youth under age 11 must be accompanied by a legal guardian or be participating in a YMCA program while in the facility. Ages must be accompanied by a legal guardian in the Wellness Center areas and have completed a fitness center orientation. For safety measures, children under the age of 11 may not enter the Wellness Center; children ages 11 to 14 need to complete a fitness orientation prior to using the Wellness Center and must be at least 4 11 tall to use the fitness equipment. Ages 11 to 14 must also be accompanied by a person of at least 18 years of age. 4 12th Annual RIDE/WALK WITH THE Y Sunday, September 27, 2015 Join us for the 12th annual Ride/Walk with the Y family event. This popular event is held each year on the Pine Creek Rail Trail in our area. Choose from four different courses ranging in distance from 2 to 29 miles. Shuttle transportation is provided FREE of charge to the three longest courses. All participants are entered in our prize raffle - lunch will be served at course completion in the Y parking lot until 5:30pm. Participants can register individually or as a family. All who register by September 18 will receive an official event t-shirt. All proceeds from the Ride benefit the YMCA s Annual Support Campaign Individual Registration: $10 Family Registration: $25 (limit 2 shirts per family) Thank you to our Major Sponsors for this year s event! Registration opens at 10:00am Slate Run Course Shuttle departs at 12:00pm. All other courses depart at 12:30pm. CHILDREN S COMMUNITY FALL FESTIVAL Presented by the Jersey Shore Ministeirum & Jersey Shore Branch YMCA DATE TBA 6:00 7:30pm Dress up and join the Y and Ministerium for this fun FREE event at the end of October. There will be many games and activities provided by the YMCA and local area churches for kids and families to enjoy. The evening will conclude with a costume contest and door prize drawing. NOTE: You must be present and able to show ID to claim prizes. BOY SCOUT TROOP 31 CUB SCOUT PACK 31 Learn important life skills and have fun with friends while learning to make ethical and moral choices throughout life. Enjoy camping, hiking, archery and more while working toward the ultimate goal of Eagle Scout. 5 HEALTHY LIVING SHANGRAW WELLNESS CENTER Join the Y and get fit in our brand new Wellness Center! Sign up for a FREE Fitness Orientation which is available to all adult members. To use the Shangraw Wellness Center, youth 11-14yrs old must complete a Fitness Orientation and have a parent present in this area during use. Fitness Orientations may be arranged at the Front Desk. NOTE: Children under 11 yrs are not permitted in the Wellness Center or in group exercise classes. See our Child Watch/Kids Movement options on page 9 for alternate options for children under age 11. RAQUETBALL COURT In addition to our Wellness Center and two gymnasiums, the Jersey Shore Branch YMCA features a racquetball court. Members and guests may reserve the court for a fun and energetic game of racquetball. YMCA Members FREE Non-members Daily Usage Fee EXPRESSO INTERACTIVE CYCLING Try out our NEW Expresso Bikes and begin your cycling journey. Members can create a FREE user account and track miles, calories, heart rate and rides. Participate in monthly challenges and help our branch climb the national rankings! Members can even race against each other side-by-side. Need help getting started? Ask any staff member for assistance and we will be glad to get you set up! SILVER SNEAKERS Our YMCA has a class with exercises specifically focused on senior members that s kinder and gentler on the joints. Silver Sneakers Classic, Circuit & Yoga Stretch classes are offered throughout the week - new members are always encouraged to join the group! 6 GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES NEW exciting classes are offered throughout the week - FREE with your Y membership! Our instructors focus on creating a warm atmosphere where all fitness levels are welcomed. Classes are subject to change - be sure to check the current program schedule at the front desk or on our website. POWER STEP AEROBICS Join this enjoyable, challenging workout that can be adapted to any fitness level! This class combines circuit training with steps, aerobic exercises, weights, and kettle bells resulting in a powerful workout that will burn fat and tone muscle. Mondays & Wednesdays 5:00-5:45pm INDOOR CYCLING Indoor Cycling (Spin) class focuses on instructor-led interval cycling workouts on stationary bikes. The intensity of your workout is determined by your resistance and the music tempo. This fun, challenging class is open to all fitness levels! Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:45-6:30am & 5:00-5:45pm ZUMBA Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before you know it, you re getting fit and your energy levels are soaring! There s no other fitness class like a Zumba fitness party. It s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning participants. Mondays - Tuesdays - Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm ZUMBA GOLD This class takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of active aging adults, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same are all the elements that the Zumba fitness party is known for the zesty Latin music, easy to follow moves, and the invigorating, partylike atmosphere. Our trainers will give you the support and motivation you need to commit yourself to a healthy lifestyle. Sessions are flexible to fit your schedule. Whether it s wanting to shed extra weight, fatigue, illness, or just lack of knowledge, we will help educate you and pair your physical exercise at the Y with proper nutrition. All classes will be held with Certified Personal Trainer/Registered Nurse Marlene Goodbrod. 10 Sessions: 1 Hour - $150 (YMCA member) $165 (non-member) Stop at the front desk to fill out a Wellness Coaching request form and get started on the road to healthy living! All ages are welcome including families. Must have an adult of 18 years of age or older accompanying all under age 18. 8 CHILD CARE PROGRAMS ENSURE A BRIGHTER FUTURE SACC Our School Age Child Care, for ages 5 to 12 years, provides a safe and structured environment with many activities to keep your child busy and focused. Some of the activities your child will experience while enrolled in the SACC program are: Homework time Crafts Games Gym time & play opportunities Outdoor Activities Child care is available Monday through Friday, before and after school or on an as needed basis. We also provide all-day care for scheduled, non-weather related school closings (i.e. Act 80 & selected vacation days). We have two locations to serve your needs: Jersey Shore Elementary: 6:00am-6:00pm Salladasburg Elementary: After school-6:00pm SACC FEES: Before and after school care - $70 per week Before or after school care - $55 per week Y-KIDS LEARN PRESCHOOL Our preschool program, for ages 3 to 5 yrs, provides children with a safe environment in which they can grow and develop to their full potential. We have dedicated and professional staff who will help your child grow socially and educationally while also teaching the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. While enrolled in Y-Kids, your child will experience: Weekly educational themes Kindergarten readiness skills Field Trips There are currently 2 preschool class options: Mon/Wed/Fri class - ages 4 & 5 - $120 per month Tues/Thurs class - age 3 - $100 per month Classes begin in September and follow the Jersey Shore School District calendar. Registration is open now enroll early to ensure your child s placement in the class! All classes have a $36 Supply Fee that is due with September s monthly fee. Financial assistance may be available to those who cannot afford YMCA fees. Please call or stop by the YMCA for an application. 9 BRICK HOUSE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Brick House is an after school program offered at no cost to the participant through the generosity of the Lycoming County United Way. The program is designed to prepare youth and teens for success in life through activities that build self-esteem and teach important life skills. Brick House promotes healthy lifestyle decisions and habits and is focused toward keeping kids off the street after school. Our friendly and caring staff members provide each teen with a unique experience. Teens will be engaged in activities that include homework help, tutoring, mentoring, goal setting, sports activities, teen leadership opportunities, educational opportunity, and learning about preventing drug and alcohol use. Service-based learning is stressed and encouraged. The program is both fun and educational. Brick House is available Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 6:00pm. Brick House is available to students in grades 6 through 12. This program is funded in part by the following: KIDS MOVEMENT A program for parents of children ages 6 through 11 - come to the Y and work out while we keep your kids active and safe! Ages 6-11 Mondays & Wednesdays January 1 April 15 4:30-7:30pm CHILDWATCH Our YMCA has a pleasant environment for your children ages 3 months to 5 years old in our Child Watch room. While you work out, your children are cared for by our qualified staff. 3 months - 5 years old Monday through Thursday 4:30-7:30pm NOTE: Both programs are free for Jersey Shore Branch YMCA members and $1.00 per child, per visit for non-members. Hours for each program are subject to change at any time. Parent or guardian must be in the YMCA facility during Kids Movement and Child Watch participation. In order to ensure the safety of all children, a staff to child ratio will be enforced during high attendance times. 9

10 Y ART PROGRAM This exciting program brings all of the creative components of art to the Y! With classes for all ages, everyone can enjoy practicing and learning about various types of mediums and art styles. No experience is necessary to participate! SPECIAL EVENTS PAINT PARTY No experience needed for this one-day event as the instructor will paint the chosen design step-by-step as you follow along. Light refreshments will be provided. Ages 12 and up (ages may attend with a paying adult) Paint Party 1: October 10, 2015 Paint Party 2: December 2, 2015 FEES (per party): YMCA Members $20 Non-Members $33 3:30-5:30pm 5:00 7:00pm KIDS CLASSES DRAWING & PAINTING FOR KIDS This class will allow children the opportunity to explore a variety of drawing and painting experiences which will include the use of watercolor, tempera paint, acrylic, colored pencil, marker and scratch art in a fun six-week course. Ages 7 through 11 Thursdays from 6:00-7:30pm October 1 - November 5 FEES: YMCA Members $35 Non-Members $49 ART FOR ALL AGES INDIVIDUAL ART LESSONS One-on-one lessons tailored to your unique interests and abilities. Choose a concentration in either 2-D/Watercolor or 3-D/Acrylic Painting. The instructor will work directly with you to develop your art abilities or simply guide you through your project step-by-step - the choice is yours! 2-D Drawing or Watercolor Classes - Fees are per individual YMCA Members: $16 per class (no supply fee) OR a 6 class bundle for $70 w/$10 supply fee. Non Members: $25 per class (no supply fee) OR a 6 class bundle for $100 w/$10 supply fee. 3-D Projects or Acrylic Painting Classes - Fees are per individual YMCA Members: $19 per class (no supply fee) OR a 6 class bundle for $70 w/$25 supply fee. Non Members: $28 per class (no supply fee) OR a 6 class bundle for $100 w/$25 supply fee. 10

11 YOUTH BASKETBALL WINTER YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE The winter youth basketball program at the Y encourages healthy competition, the value of participation over winning and team building. Sportsmanship is always stressed as well as having fun! Parents are encouraged to be more than mere spectators by contributing their time as volunteer coaches and team parents. GRADES 1-2 CO-ED DIVISION This is an instructional division with little emphasis on competition. Details: 8 week season, tentatively beginning December 5 TEAM FEE $160 INDIVIDUAL FEE $20 Registration deadline: November 6 GIRLS GRADE 3-4 DIVISION Details: 8 week season, tentatively beginning December 5 TEAM FEE $200 INDIVIDUAL FEE $25 Registration deadline: November 6 BOYS GRADE 3-4 DIVISION Details: 8 week season, tentatively beginning December 5 TEAM FEE $200 INDIVIDUAL FEE $25 Registration deadline: November 6 GIRLS GRADE 5-7 DIVISION Details: 8 week season, tentatively beginning December 5 TEAM FEE $200 INDIVIDUAL FEE $25 Registration deadline: November 6 BOYS GRADE 5-7 DIVISION Details: 8 week season, tentatively beginning December 5 TEAM FEE $200 INDIVIDUAL FEE $25 Registration deadline: November 6 All games will be played on Saturdays with each team having a designated practice time each week. The season will tentatively begin December 5 and conclude February 6. There will be a two week break over the Christmas & New Year s holiday period. More details will follow regarding player evaluations and practice dates. 12 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS INTRO TO NINJA KIDS FALL SESSIONS I & II A fun, exciting and life-changing program that will give your child solid, proven techniques, skills and methods for conquering fear, building greater self-confidence and overcoming the effects of bullying. Ages 6-12 Mondays & Wednesdays 7:00-7:35pm September 24 October 29 (Session I) November 2 December 9 (Session II) Fees: YMCA Members $29 per session Non-Members $41 per session ADVANCED NINJA KIDS FALL SESSIONS I & II A new level of training that will focus on continuing to build your child s self-confidence through solid, proven techniques, skills and methods for conquering fear and overcoming the effects of bullying. This class is recommended for those who have completed the Intro class in the past or have self-defense experience. Ages 6-12 Mondays & Wednesdays 7:05-8:05pm September 24 - October 29 (Session I) November 2 - December 9 (Session II) Fees: YMCA Members $49/session Non-Members $41/session PRESCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAMS YOUTH SOCCER CLASS FALL SESSION I A fun, up-tempo experience for kids looking to learn the basics of soccer and have fun with friends! Class will focus on fundamentals including offense, defense, teamwork and more! Ages 3-5 Tuesdays 6:00-6:45pm September 22 October 27 FEES: YMCA Members $29 Non-Members $41 YOUTH BASKETBALL CLASS FALL SESSION I Learn the basic and fundamental skills of basketball as well as good sportsmanship and teamwork skills. This class is a great introduction or review for any child. Sneakers are required. Ages 3-5 Thursdays 6:00-6:45pm October 8 November 12 FEES: YMCA Members $29 Non-Members $41 TOT TUMBLING CLASS FALL SESSION I This class offers a great introduction to the basics of gymnastics. Your preschooler will learn a variety of exercises that will start them on the path to become a well-rounded athlete. Ages 3-5 Wednesdays 6:00-6:45pm September 23 October 28 FEES: YMCA Members $29 Non-Members $41 MINI NINJA KIDS FALL SESSION I A fun and exciting six-week program that will give your preschooler solid, proven techniques, skills and methods for conquering fear, building greater self-confidence and overcoming the effects of bullying. Ages 3-5 Mondays 6:00-6:35pm November 2 December 9 FEES: YMCA Members $29 Non-Members $41 12

13 BIRTHDAY PARTIES Make your child s next party fun, exciting, and memorable with a birthday party at the Jersey Shore Branch YMCA! We offer various party themes and amenities to make your child s party enjoyable for all! Package A - Birthday child plus up to 14 guests 1 hour in large gymnasium 1 hour in kitchen area 2 Domino s 1 topping pizzas (approx. 32 slices) YMCA Members $85 Non-Members $100 - Dates and times are based on availability and must be scheduled at least one week in advance. - A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due at time of reservation. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of the party. Full fee must be paid before the date of the party. - The Teen Room (Ping-Pong, Pool Table, Air Hockey) may be included with any package for an additional $25 fee. WINTER SWIM TEAM SEASON Join the fun, excitement and friendships that competitive swimming can offer your child! The Jersey Shore Branch YMCA Bullfrog s season will begin mid-october and consists of weekday practices along with six swim meets on weekends (both home and away). The season wraps up with a Championship Meet in mid-february. DETAILS: Registration will be held at the Jersey Shore Branch YMCA in September - dates are TBA. Each swimmer must have or obtain a minimum of a semi-annual (6-month) JS YMCA membership. Try-on suits will be available at registration. The purchase of a team suit is optional, but encouraged. 14 ADULT SPORTS PROGRAMS Adult sports programs at the Y offer alternative opportunities to stay active and engage in healthy lifestyles, other than simply going to the gym and working out. Engage in healthy competition while also being involved in activities to keep active and in shape. Sportsmanship is a priority in order to maintain focus on our character development philosophy, emphasizing the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. ADULT BASKETBALL LEAGUE 2015 FALL SEASON Shoot for better health and join the Adult Basketball League at the Y! Form a team and join our competitive and engaging program. ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE 2015 FALL SEASON Bump, Set, and SPIKE into action by signing up for the Adult Co-Ed Volleyball League at the Y! Round up a team and join this year s league for some exercise and fun with friends! Details: League tentatively begins October 8 Games will be Thursday evenings at the JS Branch YMCA 8 week season, plus playoffs $175 per team Registration deadline is October 5 VOLUNTEERING Do you wish to see the Y reach new heights? The YMCA is founded upon the principles of volunteerism to achieve our mission in our community that we serve. Volunteer opportunities are available all year to utilize your time and skills to help the Y achieve its goals. Common volunteer opportunities include: Youth Basketball League Referees Scorekeeping for Youth & Adult Basketball Leagues Adult Volleyball League Referees Help with special events and fundraisers held throughout the year Routine daily cleaning and maintenance in the facility Youth sports class instructors Teen enrichment programs (Brick House) To explore volunteer opportunities, contact any member of the management team at the Jersey Shore Branch YMCA! 14

15 SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY YMCA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The YMCA works to ensure that regardless of ability to pay, we make it possible for everyone in the community to participate in our programs and activities. For that reason, our Y has a scholarship program to make our programs and activities more affordable. In previous years, the Y awarded over $250,000 in membership and program subsidies to those who could not afford the fees. If you believe in the mission of the Y and you believe in how the Y can help individuals and families in our community with improving their health, then please consider a donation to the Jersey Shore YMCA Annual Support Campaign. The Annual Support Campaign is our yearly drive to fund the scholarship assistance program. One hundred percent of the money donated goes directly to the benefit of children, adults and families in our community.
