Course Description "Applications of Ultrasonography in Biology of Reproduction" is intended to introduce students to the fundamentals of ultrasonography and provide the necessary skills that allow students to have the knowledge and skills to properly perform and interpret reproductive ultrasound diagnostics in animal species of veterinary interest. The course will develop theoretical and practical items of application of ultrasounds on the reproductive system: control of follicular development and ovulation, transrectal ultrasound examination, ovum pick-up (OPU) in cattle and diagnostic of ovulation and pregnancy in mares, small ruminants and pigs. 3. Course access requirements 3.1 Incompatibilities 2

Teaching methods and contact hours Learning Activity Methodology Attendance Hours Independent Learning Workload This course is eminently practical with a previous Theoretical lessons theoretical part with iconographic information necessary for the development of the practice. 4

5 Learning Activity Methodology Attendance Hours Independent Learning Workload To carry out the practical part will have a wide and varied equipment (scanners and linear and sector probes of different types (transabdominal, transrectal and transvaginal) with the corresponding handgrips and accessories), contributed by various ultrasonography companies and to allow students to work with different equipments and assess the value and benefits thereof. The practical program will be held in two sections, first, laboratory practices with slaughterhouse samples Practical activities (ovaries, uterus, testes and genital tract full), so that students can carry out their work in vitro, with instructional support teacher and the display on the projection screen, the images being obtained in order to be mentioned and discussed in group. The program is completed with field practical activities in collaborating farms (stud, dairy, etc.) and in the Veterinary Teaching Farm, so that students can work directly with different animal species and study of cases. The images obtained will be recorded and discussed in group. 7. Course Timetable 5

6 8. Assessment Methods / Instruments The evaluation will be carry out on one side, continuously, during the development of the various theoretical and practical issues, assessing attendance, the degree of involvement and interest shown by students in the course and on the other hand, with a test with 15 multiple choice questions Evaluated skill assessment of theoretical and practical content and a practical test with 15 ultrasound images, in which the student must interpret the images correctly. Evaluation Criteria Continuous assessment will be a 25% of the final grade. The test exam 35% and ultrasound imaging practical test 40% of the final grade. Weight Continuous assessment will be a 25% of the final grade. The test exam 35% and ultrasound imaging practical test 40% of the final grade Exam date 9.
