We cordially invite you to attend Early Registration April 5-8, REASONS TO ATTEND EARLY REGISTRATION 1. Priority registration for new freshmen register before other students for the Fall 2016 semester! 2. Meet academic and faculty advisors who will personally assist with course selection and registration. 3. Learn valuable information for parents and family members of incoming freshmen. 4. Pick up your campus ID, purchase an ISU computer account, take a campus tour and more. 5. Meet friends! HOW TO CHECK YOUR ISU In the upper right corner of BengalWeb this icon is a link to your ISU . Log on with your username and password included in your admission materials. Call the ISU Service Desk at (208) if you need any help accessing your account. ALL OFFICIAL ISU COMMUNICATION GOES TO YOUR ISU . CHECK IT DAILY.
3 IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY 3 Prepare for the Early Registration Event Bring this Early Registration Guide to the Event Bring a Photo ID VERIFY YOU HAVE ACCESS INTO BENGALWEB Verify BengalWeb access using your user name and password found in your ISU Admissions materials. Problems? Contact the ISU Service Desk at (282-HELP). ENTER YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION IN BENGALWEB Click on the Academic Tools tab in BengalWeb. Find the Student Record channel and click on the Update Emergency Contacts link. Emergency contacts must be entered before initial course registration. Step 1: Find your username and password Your username and password are in the materials sent to you by the ISU Office of Admissions. If you have lost yours, call (208) Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Log into BengalWeb.isu.edu Click on Academic Tools Fill out the Emergency Contact Information In the Student Records Channel, click on Update Emergency Contacts link. This process must be completed before registration COMPLETE THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ADVISING AND REGISTRATION Complete the online Freshman Fundamentals of Advising and Registration (FFAR) session at isu.edu/advising/onlineadvisingsessions.shtml. BRING YOUR LAPTOP COMPUTER OR TABLET TO THE EARLY REGISTRATION EVENT Please charge your device before you arrive. Electrical outlets will not be provided. If you do not bring a device you will be provided computer access at Early Registration. To use your device for Early Registration, you will need to purchase a semester computer account. This account will be active from the time of purchase at Early Registration until the end of the Fall 2016 semester. CONSIDER TAKING THE COMPASS PLACEMENT TESTS You may use a COMPASS score if you believe your ACT or SAT score does not accurately reflect your English or Math placement. It is recommended that students take the COMPASS math and/or English placement tests prior to Early Registration. Please contact either your high school counselor or the ISU Testing and Counseling Center at (208) for more information. SEND OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS Send official transcripts of any completed dual enrollment or early college courses from institutions other than ISU to the ISU Office of the Registrar.

For a list of Idaho State University undergraduate programs, see pages 6-7. If you are currently undecided as to a major, please choose Undecided. Attending Early Registration allows incoming freshmen to hear from faculty and professional staff, learn how to develop an appropriate class schedule and be among the first students to register for fall classes. Those who cannot attend the Early Registration event will be allowed to register beginning April 18, 2016.
5 IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY 5 COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS Check in at the Cesar Chavez Foyer, outside of the Bengal Theater in the Pond Student Union, and register your device. After the Bengal Theater Welcome, College of Technology students will be escorted as a group to the Roy F. Christensen (RFC) Building to register for classes. Make plans to meet your parents at the Pond Student Union Ballroom to learn about campus resources, or at Turner Hall for a housing tour, or at Turner Dining Commons for dinner. If you have a disability, please call ahead to request accommodations. Disability Services is located in the Rendezvous Complex, Room 125, (208) DIRECTIONS SOUTHBOUND I-15 Take the Clark Street Exit 69. Continue down Clark Street. Proceed to 15th Avenue, turn left onto 15th Avenue, which will become Memorial Drive. Continue on Memorial Drive to Holt Arena parking entrance on your left. NORTHBOUND I-15 Take the Clark Street Ext 69. At the bottom of exit ramp, turn left onto Clark Street. Proceed to 15th Avenue, turn left onto 15th Avenue, which will become Memorial Drive. Continue on Memorial drive to Holt Arena parking entrance on your left. PARKING AND SHUTTLE Free parking for this event is available at the Holt Arena. A free shuttle bus service will be available to transport you from the Holt Arena parking lot to the Cesar Chavez Foyer, outside of the Bengal Theater in the Pond Student Union. WHERE THE PROGRAM BEGINS Students will check in at the Cesar Chavez Foyer, outside of the Bengal Theater in the Pond Student Union, located near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Way and E. Humbolt Street.

8 8 Early Registration Academic Skill Building Courses Designed Specifically for First-Year Students BELOW ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND STRONGLY ENCOURAGED ACAD 1104 FIRST YEAR TRANSITION, 2 CR Research demonstrates that students who take college success courses attain degrees in higher numbers than those who do not take college success courses. ACAD 1104, a 16-week course, will teach you how to handle the rigorous demands of higher education, manage your time and energy in a way that will help you reach your academic goals, figure out your role in this new and dynamic community, and help you make meaningful connections with other first-year students. New this year: we are offering sections of 1104 tailored to specific academic interests and student needs. Look for sections specifically designed for athletes, international students, business majors, social sciences, STEM, the help professions, humanities, honors students, and more. COUN 1150 CAREER AND LIFE PLANNING, 1 CR This course helps students clarify educational and career goals, with an emphasis on career decisionmaking. Students explore how their interests, personality, skills, values, and lifestyle impact career choices. Information on job searching, resume building, and effective interviewing skills are also discussed. ACAD 1103 COLLEGE LEARNING STRATEGIES FOR MATHEMATICS, 1 CR Intimidated by math? Want some extra help? Simply looking for every means of making yourself more successful in your required math courses? Start with ACAD 1103! This 8-week course can help you approach your math requirements with greater confidence and skill. It s not just a course you take if you re not good in math; it s a course you take if you want an edge. Summer Bengal Bridge Bengal Bridge provides eligible students with a chance to take summer college level courses for a reduced price, with dedicated instructors, a supportive environment, free tutoring, and a chance to be one step ahead when it comes to being campus savvy. Bengal Bridge faculty will be available during the Early Registration Event to answer your questions.
9 IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY 9 EARLY REGISTRATION PROGRAM SCHEDULE ALL DAYS 11 AM CHECK-IN Cesar Chavez Foyer/Bengal Theater Lobby, Pond Student Union Pond Student Union Ballroom You will be assisted in configuring your device and in forwarding your to an ISU address (required). 12:30 PM WELCOME AND OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES Bengal Theater STUDENTS Freshman Fundamentals of Advising and Registration (FFAR) Breakout sessions based upon college and/or program. Room locations will be announced in the Bengal Theater Welcome session Arts and Letters Science and Engineering Business Education Health Sciences and Pharmacy TRiO Program Students College of Technology (see page 5) Before the program begins at 12:30 p.m., take time to visit: ISU Bookstore and take advantage of the 25% off coupon Idaho Museum of Natural History, opens at noon, ground floor Museum Building Transitions Art Gallery Outdoor Activity Center Games Center Take a campus tour. PARENTS AND FAMILY Parent and Family Session Bengal Theater Parents will remain in the Theater for information on housing, financial aid, scholarships, health, safety and academic success. Afterwards, visit the following areas while your child is completing the FFAR session. Bookstore lower level Transition Art Gallery lower level Game Center lower level Parent Lounge ballroom VISIT CAMPUS RESOURCE TABLES Staff members will be available in the Pond Student Union Ballroom to answer questions and assist in applying for housing and other services. 4-7 PM DINNER AND HOUSING TOURS (OPTIONAL AND COURTESY OF CHARTWELLS AND ISU HOUSING) Students and their families are invited to dinner and a tour of the housing facilities. Meet at the campus tour table in the Pond Student Union ballroom for a walking escort to Turner Dining Commons, or take the bus. Housing tours begin at the Turner Hall front desk.

11 IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY 11 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Do I have to register for the Early Registration Event? A. Yes, you may register at isu.edu/advising/student/earlyreg Q. Do I need to attend the entire Early Registration program in order to register for classes? A. Yes, to be granted the privilege of priority registration at the Early Registration program, you must attend the full program. Q. Is there a charge to attend Early Registration? A. No, there is no charge for Early Registration Q. What should I bring to Early Registration? A. Bring a photo ID, and Early College and Dual Enrollment information (if applicable), this Early Registration Guide and a laptop or tablet. Q. Should I bring my tablet or computer to Early Registration? A. Yes. In fact, we encourage you to bring your own device. If you do not have a device one will be provided to register for classes. Q. Do I need a student computer account for Early Registration, and what does a student computer account include? A. A student computer account is highly recommended. At Early Registration, you can sign up for a fall semester computer account. The fee of $35 will be added to your fall semester fee statement. This fee includes computer access for the summer. Generally, fees and tuition are due by 5 p.m. on the Friday before classes begin. Tuition and fee information will be made available on the Finances Tab in BengalWeb mid-july. Q. If I attend Early Registration and register for classes but am unable to attend the fall 2016 semester, what action should I take? A. DROP YOUR CLASSES in BengalWeb before the semester begins to avoid possible negative consequences (i.e. failing grades, financial charges). See the ISU Academic Calendar for specific deadlines. Notify the Office of Admissions at (208) If you signed up for a computer account, contact the ISU Service desk to have the fee removed, (208) Check your Finances Tab in BengalWeb to ensure that there are no fees or charges.
