2 World Energy Council who are we? Network of leaders and practitioners promoting an sustainable, affordable, stable and environmentally sensitive energy system for the greatest benefit of all. Formed in 1923, we are the UNaccredited global energy body. Member organisations in over 90 countries. Members comes from governments, private and state corporations, academia, NGOs and other energy-related stakeholders.

3 Global, regional and national energy analysis, policy issues and strategies WEC works with governments, agencies and companies on policy development and strategic decision-making and planning. WEC works with partner organisations to facilitate access to our network of experts impartial advice to intergovernmental organisations and national governments

4 High-level events World Energy Congress every three years. The world s largest energy event. World Energy Leaders Summits (WELS) twice a year to enable an ongoing high-level dialogue on critical issues affecting the energy world. Regional events annually or bi-annually. They are organised by the WEC s national member committees working in partnership. National events are organised regularly by the national member committees.

5 Authoritative studies World Energy Resources, a survey of global resources and technologies. World Energy Trilemma report, an independent assessment of national energy and climate policies. World Energy Issues Monitor, an annual monitor identifying what issues are affecting the global energy leaders community. World Energy Scenarios, in-depth explorative energy scenarios, e.g. Global Transport Scenarios 2050.

6 WEC Denmark is working for: Establish dialogue between WEC and Danish members and other decision makers in the Danish energy sector. Keep Danish members up to date with the international development in the energy sector. Support the Danish participation in the international work of WEC. Promote international understanding of Danish energy policies. Contribute to increased cooperation between the energy sector actors.

7 22 nd World Energy Congress Daegu South Korea - October 2013 WECs 22nd World Energy Congress was held in Daegu, South Korea, October It brought together more than 6,000 delegates from 113 countries, including 50 ministers and 272 speakers from 72 countries. 8 World Energy Resources: 2013 Survey This study is the latest in a series that has been issued every three years since No fear of peak oil. There are fossil resources enough as long as the eye can see. The development of renewable energy is significantly slower than expected 20 years ago. 9 World Energy Perspective: Cost of Energy Technologies This study assess the costs of energy technologies. Mature renewable energy technologies like hydropower and onshore wind is economically close to conventional technologies. Emerging renewable energy technologies like offshore wind and wave are still more expensive.

10 World Energy Trilemma. Time to get real the case for sustainable energy investment This study shows that only a few countries score well on all three dimensions of the WEC Trilemma (balance between energy security, social equity and environmental/ climate impacts). Denmark is ranked # 2 - out of 129 countries. Switzerland is # 1

11 Miscellaneous Access to electricity for the last 1,2 billion people in the world must have a high priority. Efficiency improvements must have a high priority. The focus should not only be on energy supply, but also on end-use. Pricing should give the right signals to consumers. Energy labelling is important. Consumer behavior is important. The same goes for smart solutions that automatically optimize consumption.
