13 Executive Summary Deliverable D2.4.1 Platform integration for Barcelona Pilot Site (BCN PS) presents the adaptation and integration process of the electromobility services developed in smartcem, into the BCN PS already existing technical architecture of a service for managing fleets of vehicles under a conventional sharing scheme. It follows the guidelines provided by D2.3: Guidelines and requirements local systems integration into smartcem. This deliverable is an executive project of the implementation of smartcem services to enhance a conventional sharing service into an open sharing service, which is complemented by additional electromobility services, like navigation, charging stations provision and a post-trip efficient driving service. This deliverable describes how the smartcem technical architecture is adopted by BCN PS and how the local implementation is done. 31/10/ Version 1.0

14 1 Introduction This document is the outcome of Task 2.4: Technical adaptation work for pilot sites: platform integration, in case of. In this Task the smartcem partners work on the adaptation and integration of existing software platforms into one smartcem platform. The work is focused also on the technical adaptation starting from the outputs of Task 2.1: Requirements and specifications and considering the design and integration work done in Tasks 2.2: Develop reference architecture, standards and best practices and 2.3: Technical Architecture. In Task 2.3, ICT providers have implemented software components and functionalities needed in the pilot sites (after the analysis conducted together with the local stakeholders) that meet the important requirement of being interoperable and re-usable between the different pilot sites. For this purpose a suite of software components (smartcem deployment kit) has been implemented in view of the local integration. Considering the encountered local deployment barriers, each pilot site will have a specific implementation of the smartcem platform. Consequently, the objective of this document is to describe how the smartcem services must be adapted and connected to existing local applications in the case of the. In addition, this document is strongly related to deliverable D2.3: Guidelines and requirements local systems integration into smartcem, where the guidelines to implement the smartcem services in each pilot site were explained. The present document is structured in four main chapters: Chapter #2: Architecture. This section provides a graphical overview of the Barcelona local architecture, how components are connected and interfaced locally. Moreover, the architecture updates and modifications are provided within this chapter. Chapter #3: Components implemented. Describes the instantiation of the smartcem components in the local systems. Chapter #4: Interfaces and standards implemented. Describes the software interfaces implemented in. Chapter #5: Conclusion. This chapter provides a summary of the issues encountered during the implementation process. 31/10/ Version 1.0

16 2.2 Changes or adaptations to architecture The initial architecture of the MOTIT BCN service ( MOTIT BCN is the commercial brand of the electric scooter sharing system piloted in Barcelona) has undergone some changes to accommodate the smartcem services. Summarizing: On the vehicle (electric scooter) side: o Built-in dataloggers default data acquisition routine was set at a sampling frequency of 1 minute. Some smartcem services (especially post-trip EV-efficient driving) require a much higher sampling rate in order to derive the driving behaviour information to be presented to the user (for example, acceleration / deceleration patterns, which have a strong influence in the SOC and driving range). Modifications have been applied to the datalogger software in order to acquire data on a second-per-second basis for high frequency data (speed, throttle position and bus current), and 60 seconds for low frequency data. In order to minimize communication costs, data is now packed, compressed and stored in local memory, finally sent to IDIADA DB and GG DB after each trip is finished and the e-scooter is idle and waiting for a new booking / trip. While idle (this is, waiting for a new service request) the e-scooters will acquire and broadcast data every 900 seconds (15 minutes). o User Interface in the OBU (Android-based tablet, fitted into the e- scooter handlebar) was rather simple in its initial version, and had to be extended due to the addition of navigation advice (EV-Navigation service). No standard API s (from PTV) were sufficient for the integration into the UI, and a custom development through PTV s SDK had to be implemented instead. As the user cannot enter information on the OBU (tablet is not a touch screen), all information to the user must be shown in the same screen: speed, battery level, date-time, etc. and navigation indications. Through standard API s the PTV navigator should be launched by the user as an additional application (with its own UI) and, because this is something the user is not allowed to do, it was achieved instead through PTV s SDK. 31/10/ Version 1.0

17 Figure 2-3 OBU UI integrating EV-Navigation service On the server side: o The Going Green software for managing a fleet of vehicles under a sharing scheme has been upgraded with the WDM (Workflows and Demand Manager), a piece of software, developed by Creafutur, which extends the functionality of the Service Platform (SP) into an open sharing scheme (also known as Sharing 2.0), where trips do not need to start and end at charging stations. o It has been decided as a generic principle for the architecture design - that only the core MOTIT BCN functionality (EV-Sharing) would be hosted in the main Going Green s SP server (noteworthy is that the WDM software component is hosted by Creafutur and delivered to Going Green under a Software-as-a-Service SaaS - scheme), while other smartcem electromobility services would need to be hosted in other servers. The SaaS for WDM has been chosen because of the well-known benefits that such scheme provides. It allows serving in parallel other EV-Sharing operators without a complex implementation process in proprietary systems. It also allows optimal SW maintenance and evolution, which is especially relevant in for a demand-adaptive module as WDM is. In this respect, a dedicated database server has been set up by IDIADA to ingest data from the e-scooters. An interface between the e- 31/10/ Version 1.0

18 scooters and IDIADA has been implemented: the e-scooter shall create a zip file containing 2 CSV files with the logged data, one for the 60 second sampled values and another one for the high frequency sampled data (1 second sampling frequency). At the end of the booking / trip, and once the bike is idle and waiting for a new driver, these stored ZIP files will be transmitted making use of GPRS, and establishing an FTP connection with IDIADA DB. The logged data will be pre-processed and conveniently stored. GPRS communications were chosen due to its availability, deployed coverage and competitive costs. Data is stored in IDIADA DB with an ID number for each user and a different ID for each booking. Associated user names are stored in GoingGreen s DB and are not available to IDIADA, hence assuring anonymity for the smartcem project, being GG responsible of security and privacy according to the LOPD (Ley Orgánica de Protección de Datos Data Protection Organic Law) which is the legal framework in Spain for privacy vigilance and data management. As an organic law, this act is ruled following constitutional principles and it must be observed by every company that deals with private data acquisition and storage. An interface from IDIADA DB server to UNEW central database has also been defined and being implemented. o Charging Station Manager Server hosted by Teamnet will enhance the EV-Navigation service - locally implemented in the e-scooters OBU - with Charging Stations information. 2.3 Architecture limitations EV-Navigation service installed locally on the OBU s, thus upgrade of the EV- Navigation service with new features / fixes cannot be done remotely. This is not too limiting with a limited number of vehicles (50 electric scooters in the initial pilot) but becomes a challenge when the fleet grows. Going Green already studying ways to have the EV-Navigation service run on their server (SP) and the OBU s to navigate online (offline navigation currently implemented). No real-time EV-efficient driving feedback possible on the e-scooters OBU because of (besides avoiding distraction of the driver, which is arguable) the EV-Efficient Driving service being hosted at UNEW server (plus data needs first to be sent to IDIADA, normalized and forwarded to UNEW central database, then EV-Efficient Driving report is generated and a new interface back to the OBU implemented, which has been considered as too distracting, plus complicated and not critical). Instead, post-trip EV-Efficient Driving report is made available to the user through a web site. 31/10/ Version 1.0

19 Only static data on Charging Stations (Points of Interest) to be uploaded to the EV-Charging Station Manager. Updates of the data (new CS added, for example) will need to be done manually (through static CSV files), as there is not yet an automatic interface / API made available to third parties by the Barcelona municipality. Communication costs due to high frequency sampled data are rather high (current flat fee mobile data schemes in some countries are still limited to a maximum data transfer volume, well below the high frequency data that some smartcem services require); if some services (such as EV-Efficient Driving) would run locally (i.e. on the OBU) rather than server-side, operational costs of the service would be lower. 31/10/ Version 1.0

20 3 Components implemented 3.1 Component #1 Vehicle sharing Functionalities The component implements the EV-sharing management service in Barcelona. In particular, the sharing 2.0 service (so called Workflows and Demand Manager software component, in other parts of the document) which makes an intelligent matching of offer and demand of scooters and applies pricing incentives in order to optimise the fleet distribution Process The component has been developed in PHP and hosted in Amazon Web Services Issues Tuning of the component has been performed by simulation. Fine tuning will still be necessary during operational phase. The service area has been restricted to certain zones in the city, since a good service level cannot be offered to the whole city with the initial number of motorbikes available (50 electric scooters). 21 GPS coverage is poor in certain areas of the city, and localization of the OBU has been found to be imprecise in some test scenarios. This is especially critical under an open sharing scheme, where location of the electric scooters must be very precise in order for the WDM to know exactly where the vehicles are at all times and so assign them to the users Lessons learnt GPS accuracy and coverage is of utmost importance especially in an open sharing scheme. Different antennas and electronic board layouts have been tested in order to increase Signal-to-Noise ratio of GPS signals which feed the receiver, which resulted in improved positioning performance. The use of a multiconstellation GPS + Glonass 2 receiver has also improved positioning performance, since it increased the number of satellites in view in narrow streets Applicability This software component is delivered under a Software-as-a-Service scheme so, in principle, any other pilot site offering sharing services should be able to consider extend their functionality from a conventional (station to station) sharing scheme to an open sharing scheme. 3.2 Component #2 Communication Manager Functionalities Gateway handling the communication processes between the back-office (Service Platform SP) and the peripheral devices, such as data loggers and smartphones Process The component has been updated by Going Green in order to handle 1 Hz data: each minute the on-board units provide the data package with second-by-second logs for high frequency data. This upgrade has been developed in order to support the EV-Efficient driving service Lessons learnt and applicability The increase in the amount of data sent by dataloggers had an impact on the data communication costs. It s not expected that any lesson learnt can be applied to other pilots. 2 Russian Navigation system 31/10/ Version 1.0

22 3.3 Component #3 Service platform Functionalities This service handles periodic messages from all scooters from the Communication manager service and makes them available to the Vehicle-Sharing component. Messages are related to the scooter and the user service requests Process The component has been updated by Going Green in order to handle new vehicle status data and new user type of contracts and reservations (by time, by trip, etc.) Lesson learnt and applicability It s not expected that any lesson learnt can be applied to other pilots. 3.4 Component #4 Vehicle sharing Application Functionalities Smartphone application for user registration, service request and check-in/checkout processes. It communicates with the Vehicle Sharing component (WDM) through the Going Green services: Communication Manager and Service Platform Process The application has been developed by Going Green and it will be initially available for Android and ios operative systems for free Lesson learnt and applicability It s not expected that any lesson learnt can be applied to other pilots. 3.5 Component #5 smartcem Mobile Portal Functionalities The application gives the users the opportunity to access applications and websites that provide electro-mobility IT services. The smartcem Mobile Portal is therefore a gateway to all EV services implemented within the project. It is delivered as an Android Application, and once installed, provides information on the available EVservices and offers the possibility to install and launch other applications on the 31/10/ Version 1.0

23 Android platform. For example, when the application geo-locates the user in Barcelona, it informs him of the existence of the MOTIT BCN service and displays a link to automatically download the MOTIT BCN application (which is available for ios and Android). The SmartCEM Mobile Portal is currently available at: It will become available on Google Play by the end of the year There are currently no plans to develop an ios version of the Portal Process The smartcem Mobile Portal provides access to other applications and websites. For this, the following metadata is used: The description of smartcem implementation sites. This includes basic data and the coordinates of the geographical area of the site The description of the available smartcem services. A mapping of service-tosite is specified. Several service categories are defined. A service can be part of more than one category The description of the available smartcem applications and their interfaces. A mapping of service-to-application is specified. All installations of smartcem Mobile portal connect to a central database in order to retrieve the current version of the metadata. A separate web application, the smartcem Management Console, is used to manage the metadata used by all Mobile Portal installations. Once installed on the user s Smartphone/tablet, the smartcem Mobile Portal connects to the central database downloads the metadata and presents the user with the UI that allows him to: Browse available sites and their information Select the current site (the current site can be detected automatically, if the mobile device that runs the portal has GPS capabilities) Browse available services Select any service and launch its corresponding application/website Issues 31/10/ Version 1.0

24 It was not possible to provide a tight integration of the applications, so that user can register and book a MOTIT vehicle through the smartcem application. The technical and business implications for the operator of the service (Going Green) were out of the scope of the project Lesson learnt and Applicability The installation of the smartcem Mobile portal (as well as the auxiliary management web console) has no site-specific implementation details related to the. All the specifics are being handled by customization of the site metadata, within the portal s central database. 3.6 Component #6 Navigator Functionalities The navigator component implements the EV-navigation service. Upon service reservation acknowledge (electric scooter is available, in a reachable area, for the desired trip at the desired time, with sufficient range) Going Green Service Platform will send trip details (origin / destination) to OBU-Navigation for setting Origin-Destination automatically Process This component has been integrated via the Software Development Kit (SDK) made available by the ICT provider PTV. PTV Navigation software has been installed at the OBU level, namely: off-line turnby-turn navigation application, only visual, no voice indications + Nokia-Navteq maps (of the Barcelona area only) Issues Update of OBU firmware and PTV navigation software not available, for the moment, through a remote process (i.e. server-side initiated). Firmware needs to be upgraded individually, per each vehicle (not a big issue for a small fleet of e- scooters, currently 50, but concerning when the fleet is expected to grow). Going Green is exploring ways to remotely upgrade software in the e-scooters, and already doing some tests Lessons learnt and applicability Not all the available features of the PTV s Navigator software will be used, but these can definitely be interesting to explore in the mid-term (for example, to better manage the range of the batteries). 31/10/ Version 1.0

25 3.7 Component #7 CS Manager Functionalities This component implements the EV-charging station management service Process The smartcem common component interacts with the EV-navigation, in order to provide charging station details (location, IDs, name). CS data are imported in CVS format from the local charging station provider. Guidelines for the adoption of the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) will be provided to the charging station operators (e.g. Mobecpoint), as specified in the platform architecture [2] Issues Not critical for Barcelona pilot since operator ensures that no charging stops are necessary for users. The vehicles will be recharged by swapping batteries at night or, when needed, on spot Lessons learnt and applicability The installation of the smartcem CS Manager mobile application has no site-specific implementation details related to the. The integration solution employed between CS Manager App and Navigator app is unique, used in the same configuration for all the sites. 3.8 Component #8 Efficient driving Post Trip analyser component Functionalities The component implements the EV-Eco-driving application for the Barcelona Pilot Site. This component refers to the whole logic of the post-driving eco-driving online tool. It can be divided into two main parts: SERVER SIDE: This includes all the software and web portals hosted in Newcastle University s server for the smartcem trial. DATABASE: The main source of historic electric vehicle driving data from the Switch EV trial. It stores the raw second-by-second driving data and 31/10/ Version 1.0

26 processed trip summaries for each trip (including energy use, GPS signal and time stamp). WEB PORTALS: Client web: Public web page where end users can review their trip summary in terms of acceleration and deceleration profile, idling time and energy regeneration. Admin web: Private web where the system administrator checks and configures all the data related to the eco-driving application. BACKGROUND SOFTWARE: Algorithms that are based on the Footlite project and have been adapted for electric vehicles for smartcem. It is based on Django and PostgreSQL with additional data handling and analysis using bespoke Python scripts. VEHICLE SIDE: This part includes all the hardware and software installed in on board data loggers. The system is based on RDM data loggers. The loggers enable the collection of real-time second-by-second driving data by connecting to the CAN bus through the vehicles OBD (on-board diagnostics port). In addition to the CAN bus the loggers can also record external analogue and digital inputs. These inputs include the GPS and timestamp as well as a number of analogue inputs from current clamps which are attached to various electrical systems of the vehicle to measure current flow and battery drain (and regeneration). The raw data collected (Figure 1) monitors all aspects of vehicle usage and it is used in this way to calculate the performance of the vehicles under different topographical and traffic levels. The performance is expressed in terms of energy consumption (kwh) per kilometre driven. Figure 3-2: Data collection infrastructure 31/10/ Version 1.0

27 3.8.2 Process Server side: The server side has been developed using Python and R scripts. The webportal has been designed using Django, PostgreSQL and Python scripts. Vehicle side: On the vehicle side the required data is collected from the CAN bus of the vehicle and sent to an on-board logging system. The collection of the data is managed by the loggers currently installed on the vehicle. The data is then uploaded to either a local server or to the commercial partner who has supplied the logger. Access is granted by the commercial partner to the server and the files containing the vehicle data are then transferred over to the local Newcastle server where the post-processing algorithms turn it into completed trip data. For the Barcelona PS, IDIADA will act as local server and then will transmit the data logged and stored to UNEW central database. Going Green, as service provider of the MOTIT service, and suppliers of the data logger, will send the information to IDIADA local server Issues Lessons learnt If vehicles are parked in underground car parks or in areas with limited 3G coverage this can delay the sending of trip summaries to the server. In the particular case of MOTIT, scooters will not be parked underground as part of its business model Applicability This system can be integrated by each of the pilot sites as long as UNEW are provided with the second-by-second data for each trip. Data can be collected through smart phones, data loggers or OBUs. 31/10/ Version 1.0
