The program is designed to help graduates apply advanced social work knowledge and skills in addition to theological studies and Christian services to religious and social service agencies. The dual degree prepares graduates for positions that promote human rights and social and economic justice. The MSW MACS, MSW-MTS and the MSW MDiv degrees represent the Master of Social Work, Master of Arts in Christian Service, Master of Theological Studies, and Master of Divinity degrees. Admissions/Degree Requirements Candidates must be admitted to the Department of Social Work s MSW Program and the Brite Divinity School s Master of Arts in Christian Service (M.A.C.S.), Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) or Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program. In the event a student elects to complete the MSW without continuing into Brite degree programs, he/she must meet all remaining requirements for the MSW (i.e. elective unites in the MSW Program). Students must apply for dual degree status prior to completing 21 hours in either program (Advanced Standing MSW students will need to declare at admission into the program).

For a new program attach a statement of the mission and objectives of the new program): Justification for the Master of Social Work Degree The program is intended to provide students who are committed to social service and leadership in religious organizations an opportunity to pursue an advanced degrees in both social work and Christian ministries at the same time. The curriculum is modeled after other successful MSW and Divinity School options around the country. These dual degrees provide the potential to attract outstanding students to both schools and will benefit both schools by encouraging interdisciplinary work and intra-school collaboration. Describe the intended outcomes of the course or program and how they will be assessed. The MSW is assessed through a series of competencies and practice behaviors that are required from our accredited body, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Students enrolling in the dual degree will also be evaluated by these same competencies and practice behaviors. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES REQUIRED: Faculty: None Space: None

This new degree option is important to Harris College s vision of offering innovative educational opportunities in graduate education in nursing and the health sciences to meet societal needs. It is important that the vision be accomplished while upholding the quality educational standards that have been established by SACS, TCU, and the Council on Social Work Education, the accrediting body for social work programs. As modeled by other similar dual degree offerings around the country, it is anticipated that students committed to leadership in both social services and religious organizations will want to pursue this option at TCU and Brite Divinity School. I strongly support the proposed degree program. It was designed by both the social work faculty and Brite Divinity School leadership. It is an opportunity to meet the needs for advanced education in social work as documented by the market study, with great opportunity for impacting society. I hope you approve this proposal and will work closely with the faculty in the Department of Social Work to ensure its quality and success. Sincerely, Paulette Burns Dean and Professor
